i) aliens are real and walk among us unbeknownst
ii) every deus ex machina, every stroke of good luck, every miracle medical recovery or other such inexplicable happy happening is the work of aliens, bearing the grace of god from the high empyrean heavens down thru the stars to you and i
iii) in return, god permits the aliens to probe one specimen per miracle
iv) if you are of the elect, dont worry, you wont feel a thing
v) please remember that we love you very much

i think it matters less whether one term or another is ‘representative’ of all tma people as a self-identification than whether such a term permits a ‘re-presentation’ of the structural position being named in such a way that our possible relations to each other and to others are changed by the process. the very simple idea - i think by now, thank god, common sense among our lot - that by ceasing to identify as a man, you have ceased to be a man testifies to a model in which ‘representation’ can actually changes what is being ‘represented’. what words will effect such transformations are not gonna be consistent in all places and at all times… the notion of the ‘trans woman’ is (ahem) a bit of a trap, not because there is anything regressive about womanhood, but because it tends to invisibilise the conditions of its own agency (the clinic, discourses of feminist injury, etc) . not that i have anything against traps mind you, sometimes becoming invisible is exactly what u want but it brings us back to that phrase “our relations to each other and to others” this is not something i can provide for you in the abstract, outside of the conditions your life, and what you want from it

"tranny" is a more coherent demographic equivalent label for tma ppl than "trans woman". not that it would be polite. but it's true lol
“NYT: What books are you embarrassed not to have read yet? TEJU COLE: I have not read most of the big 19th — century novels that people consider “essential,” nor most of the 20th-century ones for that matter. But this does not embarrass me. There are many films to see, many friends to visit, many walks to take, many playlists to assemble and many favorite books to reread. Life’s too short for anxious score-keeping. Also, my grandmother is illiterate, and she’s one of the best people I know. Reading is a deep personal consolation for me, but other things console, too.”
— Teju Cole, “Teju Cole: By The Book” A New York Times Q&A, March 6, 2014
