“I need a favour.”
agentrachellewis:
“You are the legendary one among us. Or perhaps infamous is a more accurate description.”
“Infamous? You flatter me.”
qseven:
“Well, he could be right,” Q conceded, then shrugged, “But I think there’s still hope for you yet.
“Do you? That might be the first nice thing you’ve ever said about me.”
0-0-4:
There was an easy line dangling in front of James, and Silke watched with something turning and subtly winking in her eyes that showed she was waiting to see if he would grasp it. He didn’t. Perhaps men really did mature with age. “Of course not.” She chirped brightly, despite the seeming apathy of the statement. “I’m aware of just how much it would take to kill you, James, and that certainly wasn’t enough.”
“Are you?” Interest blossomed on his face, and Bond’s lips curved upwards into an amused little smile. “Should I be worried?”
qseven:
“Oh, by all means, do,” Q said, “I’m sure it will be just as nice. I hear that the Ford Fiesta is popular; you can probably find one of those quite easily.”
“I think a Mini Cooper would be more fitting, don’t you?”
q-annalise:
“I… I was going to ask you what M wanted.”
“The usual; a situation report and to remind me that I’m irresponsible. What that all you wanted to know?”
{ you know my n a m e } [listen.]
a playlist for the agent who went through hell and returned because he could not bear the solitude; who’d walk through flames for Queen and Country because protecting is his duty, his purpose. a titan amongst ordinary men, lionhearted, the avenging a n g e l who plays with fire and doesn’t get burnt and who dances with devils. not the H E R O the world deserves, but the one it sorely needs, even if the world doesn’t quite know it yet.

{ Topic } : Bond is finally able to clean up the last of the mess Silva created. { When } : Several months after the events of Skyfall. { Where } : Switzerland. { Who } : James Bond, Q, M.
Urgent footsteps cut through the pre-dusk stillness that enveloped the landscape, feet crunching on the grass below with every step. The valley was almost lifeless as the sun descended, its amber glow just faintly illuminating the wild nature of the land below it. Silhouetted against the landscape was the lone, shadowy figure of a man, moving across the grass with short, powerful strides. The crisp, clean lines of his black tuxedo stood out against the unruly green of the grass beneath his feet, and a certain innate fluidity stood out as he moved, each step falling in what appeared to be exactly the right place. After walking for a short time, the figure stopped, suddenly, and dropped to a crouch. Strong fingers, rough from years of use, moved searchingly across the grass, stopping when they’d found a large iron ring, and with a little exertion the trapdoor was wrenched open, revealing a dark tunnel below it.
James Bond stared into the pit he’d just uncovered and grimaced.
qseven:
The fact that Bond was as much in the dark as Q was helpful to the quartermaster’s sense of pride, but not to the completion of the mission. “I already feel like Scotland Yard, picking up the pieces after a murder,” he couldn’t keep the aggravation from his voice. “MI-6–the whole point is we get to stop things before they happen, not skip around Africa with bad intelligence after shit’s hit the fan.” He and Bond had both trusted the previous M, and as much as Q respected Mallory, he hadn’t quite brought himself to like him. 007 obviously felt the same way. Bond didn’t like change anyway; Q didn’t know much about Bond’s previous quartermaster, whoever it had been, but the more he learned about the agent the more it surprised him that they’d fallen so easily into an effective partnership. “Yes, technology that functions is usually a bit more helpful,” he agreed, glancing up but unable to judge how serious the statement had been. “Anything you could do to curb your inner Luddite, actually, would be much appreciated.” He meant, of course, the original meaning of the terms rather than the current vernacular. “It shouldn’t take me too long to access the audio files on here, but going through them might,” he warned. He momentarily fell silent, removing the data chip he needed and pausing only to try and rub the last remnants of sleep from his eyes. Sedatives were a minor inconvenience compared to the ramifications of actually staying conscious when a plane was in the air, but he still felt slightly on edge, a little off, and the big mystery of what exactly they were supposed to be doing was not helping in the slightest.
“This’ll be a perfect opportunity for you to brush up on your detective skills,” Bond joked, just about managing to see the lighter side to the situation despite the aggravation that filled the room like thick smoke. Not that either of them needed to improve such skills; the incident with Silva had showcased the most ingenious side of both James’ and his quartermaster’s minds. “Maybe this is M’s new way of introducing some more variety into our work.” He’d been tired before, a regrettable side-effect of being injured, but the vexation coursing through his veins was enough of an adrenaline rush to erase all weariness from his bones. He stood dead upright, feet apart and shoulders tense, the hard lines of his body radiating his irritation outwards for the world to see. It wasn’t the first time he’d found himself in a potentially dangerous situation with poor intelligence, by any means, but typically the scrapes he found himself in were of his own making, and it was far easier to resent MI6 than it was to turn a critical eye upon himself. “I’ll do my best not to smash anything else,” Bone responded blithely, his mouth graphing into a smirk. “Although if I see any looms or spinning frames I might not be able to restrain myself.” Lapsing into silence again, he watched as Q worked on the chip, blue eyes flickering impassively, as they often did when he was concentrating. He noted some vestiges of tiredness in his quartermaster’s eyes and the slight tension to the set of his jaw but made no mention of it. If Q had been too tired to work, Bond knew that he wouldn’t be working. Given the things they’d been through together, the baptism of fire that their partnership had endured shortly after its formation, he knew that they could both be pushed far closer to breaking point before their work showed signs of worsening.
0-0-4:
“A penchant for drama,” Silke had returned fluidly as she moved. “I never would have guessed.” It was no more a piece of mockery than 007 was truly dramatic; her tone was light, and while agents could be breathtaking and impressive in their fields, MI6 had no allowance for theatrics - but things did seem to happen in brighter colours (and louder noises) around Bond. With all his years in service, it seemed unlikely that this was a coincidence, but nor could it have been accidental happenstance that James had both survived his lengthy term – one recent faux-death notwithstanding – or become the late M’s favourite by chance. Whatever he did or didn’t do, it worked - and Silke respected that.
She said nothing to his return question, and retained her silence after his apathetic acknowledgement. Silke too, had pride, and she would not offer her assistance unless asked; hypocritically, in James’ position, she would never have accepted aid unless it was extended and proposed to her: and even then, it was debatable. In her quiet during his self-operation, her gaze swept like liquid over the various abrasions and bruises on his exposed chest and torso, appraising them for any potential lasting harm. She didn’t bother to hide it. When Silke was satisfied that there was no mark on Bond that would kill him tonight – the head wound was the most pressing matter – she watched him complete his stitching. It was a quick and efficient procedure, but Silke had expected as much. When he turned to look at her she met his eyes, the ends of her lips pulling upwards. For a moment, her only answer was a raised brow, as if to say Are you waiting for a congratulations? but then she sighed - a sound mixed with barely hidden amusement, not exasperation - and stepped forward.
“Just like a man to do the work but leave the mess.” He had sterilized the wound, but blood still dried against his skin in angry clumps and thin rivers across his forehead, like an angry god’s tears. Silke walked by him to move to the sink, where she wet a washcloth then turned to face James once more. She grasped under his jaw lightly to tilt his head in the way that she wanted, letting go once he was in place. “Keep still.” She directed, lifting the cloth to his temple and beginning to clean. It was a lengthier cut than she had thought. “You musn’t be too hard on Mallory when we get back,” She said after a lengthened moment of silence, her voice faraway as she concentrated on cleaning the newly-stitched wound without breaking the sutures, though her tone was still of posh nonchalance. Her mouth graphed into a small curve of amusement. “He still isn’t as accustomed to your resilience as the rest of us.” (Hobby: Resurrection).
“It comes with the job,” he answered easily, expression relaxed and the kind of look in his eyes that suggested that his words were a self-evident truth. Inevitably, working for Six required a certain element of drama, for no matter how much of their work was done in the shadows or in dark corners where no one would think to look, just as much inevitably took place out in the open. Bond didn’t have a penchant for theatricality, necessarily, but there was something in him, a certain dramatic streak that appreciated finishing a fight with style. (Komodo dragons in Macau - a case in point.)
He could sense her watching him, could practically feel her calm eyes raking over his torso, but he didn’t turn his head to acknowledge this silent examination. No doubt she was checking his physical state, evaluating him to see if he was likely to keel over from some undiscovered wound on his chest at any minute (unlikely, of course - he was far too stubborn to collapse from the effects of an injury). Irritation coursed through him, hot and swift, as she examined him. This was the part of the job that vexed him the most, the agency’s constant need to monitor him, assessing him for injuries and charting his vital statistics and progress as though he were a creature in a laboratory. No matter how many times he reassured the medics M sent swarming to his side after a mission that he was fine, Mallory still insisted on checking up on him. That was another thing he missed about Mallory’s predecessor. She may have worried about him, but at least she knew him well enough to leave him to his own devices from time to time.
His lips twitched with a smirk as she spoke, and he lifted a shoulder in a shrug, ignoring the twinge of pain the movement sent shooting up his arm. “I’d hate for you to be left without anything to do,” James quipped, and the smirk on his face only widened when she took hold of his jaw. Her hands were soft, small, but there was a certain power implicit in her grip, the kind that told of the hidden potential to hurt if need be. “I wouldn’t dream of moving,” he murmured. True to his word, he kept his head still as she cleaned his temple, but his own hands (rough, large, the kind of hands designed to break, not heal) wound their way around Silke’s waist, fingers ghosting across the small of her back, and he studied her with a teasing look in his eye, daring her to react.
When she mentioned M Bond’s hands stilled abruptly, and he dropped them to his sides. He had almost forgotten his grievance with his boss before she’d mentioned it. Mallory was a good man, and Bond certainly respected him, but James had a tendency to compare Mallory to his former boss, and often found him lacking. “I have a few questions for M.”
qseven:
“Thankfully, I doubt that will ever become one of your concerns,” Q said dryly. “May you lead an interesting life indeed.” Obliquely referencing, of course, the old question as to whether such a statement was a blessing or a curse. He was relatively confident that Bond would catch the reference, or he wouldn’t have bothered to make it, but he was even more certain that the agent wouldn’t consider it to be much of a debate. For once, he was inclined to agree; as far as Q was concerned, boredom was a disease that could rapidly become terminal if left untreated. “Or an interesting multiple lives, if you care to stick to your pattern.”
He smirked at the reference, interlocking his fingers and resting his joined hands on Q’s work surface. “Indeed.” Many thought that such a statement was a curse, that it was better to live in uneventful times than to experience any form of turmoil or unrest. But Bond had tried that, had had his shot at living an ordinary life, and despite the freedom he’d had to do whatever he pleased the boredom had nearly driven him out of his mind. No, to live an interesting life was a blessing, and none knew that as well as he did. “I’m not sure you lot could cope if I followed that pattern. Every time I disappear, something gets blown up.”
q-annalise:
“You caught me.” She sighed. “I guess this is why I didn’t become an agent.”
“It’s not for everyone,” he answered, and suddenly remembered something he’d said to Moneypenny what felt like a lifetime ago. Bond crossed his arms. “So why exactly were you following me?”
qseven:
Q smiled, “Did I? Good. We may yet keep your ego from reaching critical mass.”
“M thinks it’s already far too late for that,” was his answer, and Bond smirked as he recalled the latest berating that his boss had given him.
0-0-4:
“How coincidental.” She returned with gaze straight ahead, though her own lips were curling. “I have a sudden and profound instinct not to invite you to a steakhouse.”
Silke’s heels clacking was the only sound as she walked, turning her head to briefly to look over Bond in silence. “Your head seems to have healed well. Though I suppose it is the hardest part of you, hmm?”
He tilted his head to one side, eyes dancing with mirth. “Perhaps that’s wise.”
Bond raised an eyebrow at her. The obvious, cheap joke he could make ran through his mind, but he’d never been one for crass humour. “You weren’t concerned about my recovery, were you?”
agentrachellewis:
“I have no doubt that won’t be too difficult.”
“You seem to have an awful lot of faith in me.”
