she couldn’t do this again.
there wasn’t even a note left for barry to read to and hold onto this time. barry was alone again, and lup had left him. he was too sick from staying up too late for days on end and lup thought that this case was going to be a quick and simple one, but she was wrong.
she was cut off from the world, shut off from the sights around her in her last moments and when she awoke, she was stuck in this room. there were bars in front of her and despite all of her attempts to melt them, they were still in pristine condition. the walls around her as well, made of cold steel.
there was no light. a single bulb that had been hanging from the ceiling had been destroyed in one of her earlier fits of rage against whoever her captor was.
her screams and her wails for release were echoed back to her, as if to mock her that she was alone. that this was her own fault for getting stuck here.
it all blurred together for her.
it was all one time, sleeping refusing to come to her unless she desperately needed it to stay awake, afraid that if she slept, she would never wake up.
commotion came from above her, something she didn’t hear before. it was usually silent save for her own heartbeat, but this time, dust would fall from the ceiling, and shouts would be heard. clatters onto the ground above her of something heavy.
footsteps ran down the staircase that she was used to hearing when her captor came to feed her, and there he was. barry with kravitz, looking exasperated and like barry hadn’t rested in days. lup wanted to call out, wanted to reach out to her, but her voice wouldn’t come through her shriveled throat, her limbs wouldn’t move to reach out to them.
it was almost instantaneous that barry had broken through the bars and was wrapping lup into his arms, clinging to her tightly. his voice was wavering as he spoke, but lup couldn’t hear him over his heartbeat. something she missed.. barry.
she didn’t want to leave his arms ever again.
