Crying Lights
“Light” a short film directed by David Parker, initially began as a project intended to bring awareness to energy waste. Bleeding, crying lights were meant to metaphorically parallel the way in which we invisibly squander our natural resources without much thought. While the original sentiment remains, the film also grew into a poetic statement about a world run amok and the human tendency to exploit that which we hold dear.
The film was shot over a couple nights in Los Angeles as two friends drove around with a camera exploring the city’s architecture and abandoned landscapes. Keeping in this vain, the film will be projected in selected US cities in vacant storefront windows and onto walls in alleys as a moving piece of public art.

Infinite Illumination in a Box
"A tiny store in Warsaw received a radical makeover by Polish architects Super Super and Inside/Outside. The temporary pavilion inside the mobile office container houses the clothing retailer Zuo Corp. Once you step inside, you are greeted by a mesmerizing mirrored room! Mirrors line not just the walls of the shop, but the ceiling, and the edges are fitted with LED lighting to appear as an infinite illuminated grid, much like the movie Tron. Ironically, there are no mirrors in the dressing rooms." via My Modern Met

Die Zukunft - Geometry meets Light
"Die Zukunft is an unusual installation from Bahar Yurukoglu that can turn any boring white room—an office, an unfurnished room, a classroom, or the traditional “white cube,” a gallery—into an evolving vortex of splashing colors and geometric perspectives. It uses fundamental principles of geometry and the Euclidean notion of plane figures to manipulate and, ultimately, transcend light. Really simple polygonal shapes made of acrylic glass tiles are adhered to the walls and ceiling, which, when hit by projected rays of colored light, give birth to a complex network of shadows, glares and cones of light. The result is an overflowing sculptural environment of juxtaposed colors that conveys a feeling of depth and sharp relief to the narrowest and dullest room."

There are two ways of spreading light - to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.

The Illuminated Mummy
"Thanks to Belfast-based photographer Michael Taylor, a new species of mummy has emerged. A current passes through copper electroluminescent (EL) wire, causing the surrounding phosphor coating to emit light. The wire is wrapped around the custom-made costumes worn by models or mannequins, and the movements are then recorded, capturing the kinetic energy. 'In the Lumen series, the topic of investigation is light itself,' says Taylor. 'It is a lifetime project in which various aspects of light are explored in separate bodies of work.'"

Light Painting by Andy Hemingway
“Ribbons of light flutter through empty, open spaces, weaving luminescent floating images that stand out against the stark, cold appearance of the abandoned garage. With a flashlight and some special tools, Hemingway can frame his shot on a tripod, set a long exposure and dance through the shot with his lights in hand.”
