Liberty High School Detective League #1 is finally complete! It will be up for sale at SPX in Bethesda this weekend!! Come find me at Table H12A! It’s been a long time coming, with moving, starting a new career, and making some major life changes along the way! But here it is! In all its newsprint interiors, manga-influenced, old teen novel wannabe, all ages glory! Here is the cover, one of the first spreads (in full color), and one of the middle spreads (in limited color like you sometimes find in manga like Dragon Ball). Inktober #18 is the GTX 1070! For whatever reason, any time I get anxious, looking at computer parts calms me down. I don't really know why, I don't consider myself a huge gamer, but I like dreaming up a good computer. I've been more and more obsessed with nice looking PCs and attractive mechanical keyboards. It is relaxing to try and put together a parts list for different requirements. I can spend hours just on pcpartpicker alone! So here is a GTX 1070, because even in fantasizing I can never bring myself to think I would need a GTX 1080. And also because I'm running out of ideas of what to draw!

Inktober #13 is some ants! This is a deeply meaningful illustration. Much more focused and thoughtful than the last 12 sketches have been. Each one represents a different quality in myself as an artist: persistence, work ethic, cleverness, responsibility to the craft, the wisdom to know when to take a day off, and the amount of bullshitting I do when I talk about the meaning behind my art.

Inktober #9 is a self portrait of me learning about last night's big news from NYCC. Dan Slott is my favorite Marvel writer and I'm stoked to hear that he is working on the new Spidey cartoon series. I'm not a huge fan of the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series because Peter Parker is barely a character in it. To me, if you don't have Peter Parker, if you don't have sadsack, lonely, struggling with responsibility and the loss of loved ones that he could have saved, trying to juggle money issues while taking care of his aunt, watching out for the little guy and making jokes to hide his fear and insecurity, if you don't have all of that, then you don't have Spider-Man. A lot of cartoons are action figure commercials, but when the main character was excited about having a motorcycle... when the dude who invented web shooters, the most iconic superhero mode of travel ever is excited about something else they can make a toy out of... You know what, doesn't matter. Don't need to rant. It's not Spider-Man and it is ending soon enough. Dan Slott on the other hand, writer of one of my favorite Marvel miniseries "Spider-man and the Human Torch," he knows Spider-man. He knows the history and the character. This show will be good. We'll see if it is better than Spectacular Spider-man, but it will at least BE Spider-man! I'm probably more hyped than I should be, but I don't care.

Inktober #8 is my favorite person, Joyana! (@heartsandminis) The winds from Hurricane Matthew made the lights go out for a few hours here in central NC. So we sat at the table next to some windows to draw and watch the cats watch the rain. It was pretty nice, after I stopped panicking about not having water or electricity. Fortunately for us, away from the coast, everything was back up and running after only a few hours.

Inktober #7 is Abra from Pokémon! Abra has always been one of my favorites. It's just so weird! I'm pretty much a sucker for all the psychic and ghost type Pokémon though. I especially love Espurr in X and Y. Today is a quick one, too tired to do much more, but I don't want to miss a day this early on!

Inktober #6 is a mashup of my favorite scene from Love Hina by Ken Akamatsu, with the main characters from the comic I'm working on now, Liberty High School Detective League. Love Hina is one of my favorite comics of all time. I have the entire series and every time I read it I'm surprised at how funny and endearing it is even though at face it appears to be just another sex comedy. I've been a fan of Love Hina since high school. This will be made clear by the fact that if you do a Google image search for "Love Hina Keitaro," and scroll all the way to the bottom, you'll find a photo of me. If you follow the link, you'll find several embarrassing photos of 17 year old me trying to convince myself, and the members of an anime message board, that I looked like Keitaro.

Inktober #5 is Harry Potter. I tried to stick with the book description as well as I could remember it without looking it up. I remember him having to buy a hat and then it is hardly mentioned again. Also I took the patch design from the Cursed Child patches. I haven't seen the show, but this is the patch you can buy from the show's website and I really love it! Obviously I want to buy the Hufflepuff patch even though it isn't gold and black for some reason... Whatever. Here's a drawing of Harry Potter for Inkandchinamarkertober.

Inktober #4 is She-Hulk! Dan Slot and Juan Bobillo's run on She-Hulk is one of my favourite super hero comics ever. It is the perfect example of a team who loves everything about Marvel comics but isn't afraid to poke fun at them. She-Hulk (2004) is the perfect blend of comedy, romance, action, and callbacks for diehard fans. My dream is for a Law and Order-like TV series starring She-Hulk revolving around superhuman law. They could bring in all the bit characters who will never show up in the movies and it would be so great.
