Some time after the adventures Varian and Hugo started living together in Corona. Hugo became another Royal Engineer.

They also got wed.

I wanted to create the scene where Varian most likely won’t come alive from whatever he was trying to do (of course without telling anyone) and he still hasn’t confessed his feelings - he is boiling and basically and in brief moment he just kisses Hugo and runs away into the danger. His thinking was that that he will die, but at least happy, that he kissed Hugo.

Basically mission complete.

He of course thinks Hugo does not have feelings for him. (Spiler: He definitely does.)
