this was the last thing he needed tonight. watching the child’s emotions curve and bend around the situation, his own heart ached for the poor boy. it was unfair, this shouldn’t be happening. no matter how much ivlis wanted his child to have a better chance than this, there was no way out of this. amber eyes glazed over his son, then to the floor as he silently shook his head.
standing up at full height, his stomach dropped as licorice began to cry and beg. running away, protection, things that are wistful in this fickle fate. staring at the facsimile of himself, memories swirled around his brain, seeing himself in the sweet prince. being held by his father lord while he cried, being told that it would be okay, things that seemed too distant and painful for ivlis to repeat. he only stood there, sweat rolling down his cheek as panic set within his own heart. think ivlis, think! the fallen phoenix knelt down once more, wrapping his arms around the child and leaning his head on licorice’s shoulder.
“ licorice… we can’t, he would … he would catch us. i know you, you want to protect me but, “
“ I CAN’T RISK HIM PUTTING HIS HANDS ON YOU, I CAN’T LET THAT HAPPEN. “
tears && snot began to pour down his face, sobbing immensely && taking it into his own hands to clean himself up. he didn’t he couldn’t understand why was he crying so badly ? his chest never felt so heavy, he couldn’t stand his childish reactions. licorice had never wanted to hide so badly before; && he was only moments away from turning && dashing through the castle. until his mother had wrapped gentled arms around him, stopping any further steps. he felt ivlis’s attempt to comfort, something that wasnt shown much && he appreciated it so much from him when he did.
he continued to cry, wiping his tears with a sleeve before letting his arms cross over the devils neck. the prince didn’t hesitate to press himself against him, trying to be lost in ivlis’s warmth. he knew what he was saying was truth, but it still didn’t stop him from a fit.
