Carlo had been sent to kill a horde of Carcasses that had started getting into Rosa Isabelle Street. The Puppets seemed to be in order again, no longer attacking randomly to any passer by. Some still attacked anyone on sight, but those were far and few to see.
The Puppet still put up a fight against the Carcasses though, it was nice having someone to fight alongside you at times.
Carlo stopped himself after thinking that…
No, he’s only ever fought alone. Any memory he had of fighting with anyone must have been a mistake or his Father.
Right, Geppetto would never lead him astray.
Yes he sent Carlo away to the boarding school, but nothing too interesting happened there. Geppetto even took him home after Graduation.
Geppetto would never lie to Carlo.
After everything had been cleaned up, Carlo did a quick sweep of the area, he found a survivor group or two, and told them the coast was clear. They thanked him as they made their ways back to where they were heading.
Carlo made his way back to the Hotel, as he entered Geppetto was waiting for him at the entrance. “Hello Son.”
Carlo gave him a smile. “Hello Father, I did as you asked. All the Carcasses where taken care of”
Geppetto inspected his son’s face. “Good, You did a wonderful job. I’m sorry I had to ask you to go out there to do that, I was just starting to get worried they might come after the Hotel.”
“It’s no problem, as long as I can fight nothing will happen to us” Carlo held up his weapon; ‘Proof of Humanity’.
With a nod Geppetto’s tone changed. “By any chance did you run into any Survivors?”
Carlo thought for a moment. “I ran into one or two, what are you afraid they might come here? This place is safe enough, it’s probably one of, if not, Thee safest place in all of-”
Geppetto grabbed Carlo by the shoulders, cutting him off- “Did you tell them about the Hotel!?”
Carlo seemed to jump from the sudden interaction from his Father, a shutter went down his spine and a small twinge of fear made his heart flutter. “I- ah- um”
“Of course not!” Carlo was able to breath out desperately.
Geppetto loosened his grip on his son’s shoulders. “Good. Carlo, promise me you’ll never Lie to me.” Carlo seemed to shudder and his breath left him, he looked into Geppetto’s eyes.
“I Promise” Carlo’s voice was raw.
Geppetto’s eyes narrowed. “You Promise What.”
“I Promise never to lie to you.”
With that Geppetto softened to a smile. “That’s a good boy” he gave Carlo a hug, and patted his back.
Letting go, Geppetto ruffled his son’s hair. “Now, I have work to do. Don’t wander off too far, Dinner will be ready in no time.”
Carlo couldn’t get rid of this feeling that he just made a mistake, he felt cold but he was sweating. That shudder still lingered.
“I need to clear my head…”
