reblog and put in the tags what your letterboxd BOTTOM 4 would be
Being critical of your interests is sooooo fun when you have the critic gene & then you sound kind of insane to the average tv watcher when you're like "this is my favorite show, It's Racist" & then you try to clarify what you mean & get that [Speech (legendary) - FAILURE] "the racism is really interesting though"
anyway you should always remember that all those foreigners you see dying on the news are just as real people as you are who have just as much interiority as you do. there is nothing about you that makes you more important and it is by pure chance that you are not in their position. in fact, this holds for all of history. every person, no matter the horror of the fate that befell them, had just as much interiority as you do. i feel like some people haven't fully internalized this.
Thinking about how sweet Bob would've been to Will when he came out. He'd call him "bud" and hug him tight. He'd have gay fun facts at the ready. Maybe he'd mention how his sister, Patty, has a lot of gay friends in Vegas that work in theater/drag with her mom. He'd remember Will's presentation on Alan Turing (that he helped him with) and ask if Will knew Turing was gay (he did). What the hell, I'll even say "I think Sam and Frodo should've kissed" is a Bob quote.
rowill and madwise are just so good. see how will becoming close friends with women immediately saved will’s life, the lives of others, and brought light into darkness… the gay men / women alliance fights on forever. rockin robin, mad max, and will the wise against the world
'cause everybody's looking, you've got control of everyone's eyes

they are a SET and should NOT be seperated
Season 5 could have started by showing us that at some point over the timeskip, Will has started secretly seeing a boy. One of the jocks from school, actually. In public he's just another one of the jerks on the basketball team, but in private he's super sweet to Will.
There is conflict between the two of them because while this jock fights hard to keep up his public persona, Will has been working hard to accept his identity. Things become especially frought between them when the jock's friends target and attack Dustin, and and the jock plays along to satisfy his friends and maintain appearances. Will doesn't expect him to come out or anything, but he just wants to him to live freely as the sweet guy that Will has come to know.
Throughout the season he winds up getting swept up in the supernatural plot, and seeing Will learn to embrace himself is really inspirational for him. He promises to start living truthfully and apologizes to Dustin for the hell he put him through. Maybe he even helps out in the final battle. He's not out publicly, but in the epilogue it's apparent that the party knows they are together.
I'm so disgusted with the treatment of Kali Prasad. The fandom carries more grief for a child abuser than they do for a teenage girl who's entire life was spent terrorized and exploited. She found a little rag tag group of people she loved and watched them die. They brought her back just to torture her and kill her. They teased "No major characters die". They decided an teenage indian girl that was pivotal to Eleven's strength isn't "major".
And to add insult to injury, Hopper just let her get shot. And he didn't care. He still doesn't. Her life meant nothing to him.
Rest in Peace Kali. I loved you. I wished for you to find some peace.
It would have been super intriguing for El to fall behind in the final battle because she's trying to save Kali rather than leave her behind. El deviates from the plan and insists she get Kali to a hospital. Recruiting Hopper in this would force him to prioritize El's needs over his own and see Kali as the young girl she is who is deserving of love too. Once they get to the hospital, it would be too late for El to stay in the wormhole. Kali and El's love for each other ends up saving them against their own will. El doesn't end a superhero, she ends as a human who loves her family. Kali doesn't end a victim of the government as she feared. As her wound heals, Kali gives the military a vision of El's death. They can start anew.
This would also open the door for the group to rely on Will instead. He would be the main component in the confrontation of the Mind Flayer and Vecna like it felt like the season was building to. Will and El constantly swap places within the narrative. The group underestimates Will, but they overestimate El. We expect El to be the major factor in the battle and sacrifice herself, so when Will defeats the villain and dies in the process (and is revived, of course), this defies our expectations. It feels more earned.
The painting never got addressed cause everytime the Duffer brothers asked ChatGPT to write the scene it ended with Will and Mike kissing

will is gonna tell his boyfriend about the whole mike situation without malice because he’s so kind and healed and that’s still his best friend but the boyfriend is still gonna want to run mike over with his car which is so beautiful
will talking to queer people in nyc about mike. not out of resentment or being unable to move on. just as a story to tell. straight crush loredrop.
realizing the more times he tells it that mike was actually gay. he did like him back and he’s still stuck. but will has moved on. he’s happy. it’s like he can fly. it would hurt too much to try again. it would be unfair to himself and to the life he’s built. mike is way too far in the closet for it to work, anyways.
so will tells himself he has to live his own life out and happy and free even more so now that he knows mike can’t. that he won’t. that’s what will does. for both of them. and he really truly is happy.
but every time will visits hawkins, mike’s smile reaches his eyes less. less and less, except for when will tells him — haltingly, at first — about his new life. bars, parades, protests, drag queens. unhesitant acceptance. and a million other things.
at those stories, mike smiles the way he used to, when they were kids on a swingset, both of them flying together.
"mike was the first person to treat el with kindness and like a human being"
put some respect on his fucking name please
lowkey would have been a better father figure for el than hopper
the fact that kali was viewed as entirely expendable.
the fact that when both el and kali collapsed, hopper grabbed el and left kali on the floor, giving us that gutting shot of her all alone in pain - and there’s no way of knowing if hopper would’ve gone back for her, had el not begged him.
the fact that in mike’s epilogue about el, he couldn't even imagine kali going along with el to see the waterfalls; that she's not even seen as important to el, just 'the mage's sister'. instead, her last bit of free will is used to help el escape, but she doesn't get to go with her.
the fact that no one thought to even carry kali out of the lab after she'd died, so they could at least bury her properly, instead of leaving her there, alone, on the lab floor in the fucking upside down.
the fact that so many people were there to help look out for el, but no one was there to look out for kali.
killing the duffers with my mind.
