Chirps and critters escape from the carrier in her grasp, and the shifter coos in an effort to quiet the fox within as she enters the veterinary office. The sanctuary had recently switched vets, previous vet having retired just a few weeks prior. As gentle as she was being with the fox kit in her care, dark blue eyes are wary as she approaches the counter. The shifter is protective of the animals that come into her care.
“Hey, ’m Nikki,” she bends for a moment to sit the carrier on the ground, interrupting herself to coo and chitter at the fox again. “I’m here from the wildlife sanctuary. There any paperwork I need to fill out?”
“Nice to meet you, Nikkim I’m Tiffany! We’ve basically gone over everything with the sanctuary while we were on the phone, but if you could just fill in and date a few things here-”
The young woman at the desk smiled brightly and slid the paper over, her eyes drifting from the fox in the carrier to the young woman across the desk. Nikki may not see it, but there is a bit of a tenseness to her smile. Not because she’s not happy to see her, of course, but because of the fact she’s a new customer.
Not ten minutes ago, she had been begging someone to just be pleasant, for the love of God, they had a new customer today, a big one, and if he didn’t, she swore she would throw out every single candy stash he had in the damned office.
“You’ll be with Doctor Joi, room two. He’s right there, actually!” She gestures to the office hallway, where a tall man stands, leaning against the doorway. His brow is furrowed.
Friendly. Right, he has to be friendly. He gives a wave to Nikki that makes the woman at the counter sigh, then deciding he’s done enough to be friendly, lets his eyes trail across the kit in the carrier.
“Uh, once you are done with that we can just put this cutie on a scale for a quick weigh-in, then you can go with the Doctor!”
