I have never been one to ask for help in any way, but I just don’t know what else to do.

This year has been very hard on us. I lost my job in December 2019 but thankfully found a new one in February 2020. I was at the new job one month when everything shut down. I was off work for 2 months. I finally was able to return to work in June. I am a nanny and unfortunately in September the family I worked for had a change in their life and they had to let me go. I thankfully found another nanny job fast but after a little over a month with them, this past week I was suddenly let go.

I have Lupus and due to many doctor appointments and my health conditions, I can only manage to work part time. So I don’t make a huge amount of money as it is, but it was enough that, combined with my husband’s income, we have been getting by. But since COVID, as you can see, it has been a struggle to keep a job on my end and to top it off my husband’s work had huge amounts of lay offs in April. My husband’s work hours were reduced to 3 days a week.

As if all this wasn’t stressful enough, our 15 year old cat, Riley, who we rescued from the shelter when he was 3, is very sick with kidney disease. Since June 2020 he had been prescribed more and more medications, we have to give him sub q fluids at home a few times a week and we have many vet visits to do blood checks and such. These treatments are slowly helping him and his quality of life but the costs are starting to add up fast and are ending up being more than we ever imagined. With me now out of a job and my husband only working 3 days a week, we are going to be really struggling to help care for our fur baby. We don’t have kids. I want to be a mom so badly but my health has gotten in the way of that. So our cat is our kid! Please, if anyone out there can help with any small amount, it would be greatly appreciated. One year of Lover! 1 year ago the Lover album came out. I’ll never forget it because I had just had a hard week that was interfering with the excitement of the lead up to the release day. I was dealing with the grief of not having kids of my own after my gynaecologist check up where I was surrounded by pregnant women in the waiting room. Where I knew I’d be asked again if we were thinking of having a baby. Where I’d stumble through my answer of how I just don’t know because of my health. Where I left that appointment to go to a hematologist appointment because there was a chance Lupus was attacking my blood and on the way there a lady yelled at me on the subway calling me a Lard ass. As I arrived at my appointment I got word my sister in law wanted me to remove my latest YouTube video because my feelings about me not being able to have kids made her uncomfortable. By the time I got home some results were already showing online and some were abnormal and I was panicking. Thankfully I later learned from the specialist that I was ok and those tiny few abnormal numbers were nothing to worry about because they were pretty close to normal. I had spent most of that week in tears. But when I sat down and started to listen to that album all the stress of that week faded away. By the time I got to the final song “Daylight” the lyrics of that song spoke to me and I related it to that week. I sobbed hearing “you got to step into the daylight and let it go.” Funny how exactly a year later I’m in the same spot again in regards to mourning not having a child of my own. It’s been a week with the new baby being born at work (I’m a nanny) and then yesterday found out a family member is pregnant. I know we got folklore in the middle of Lover era but I think today I’m going to take a break from playing folklore on repeat lol and revisit the Lover album. 😊 💖 @taylorswift

It’s pretty scary being immunocompromised at a time like this. As stressful as it is not knowing how long this will go on for and that I am temporarily laid off from my job just after finding it after being unemployed since before Christmas, I am grateful for our Canadian government who is putting so much in place to help us right now. My husband’s hours have been cut back and after this week I will have no income coming in until I can apply for the emergency benefit. I’m hearing I will need to be without pay for 14 days before I can apply and I’m hoping that isn’t the case so that we can get funds in time to pay our April bills. But despite it all, I’m viewing it as a blessing to be able to stay home and stay safe. I have Lupus, hypothyroidism, a heart condition and asthma. Lupus has attacked so many things in my body over the years. I started getting sick a couple months after getting married in 2009. I was diagnosed with Lupus in 2010. It has attacked my kidneys, my GI tract, my lungs, my skin and my joints. I take medication that suppresses my immune system and have to always be careful not to get sick. So I am grateful I’m at home staying safe and hoping I don’t catch this. My husband still works 3 days a week and gets our groceries so he could bring it home but we are doing all we can to prevent. Lupus has taken away my ability to work full time, I can only manage to work part time, which in turn has taken away our dream of owning a house and having a child. We just can’t afford those things and health wise I don’t know I could manage parenting. It’s been heart breaking to have to give up so many dreams because of my Lupus. Lupus medications have also affected my singing voice. I have sung from the time I could talk. It has been my life. I wanted to sing professionally but didn’t have the confidence in my appearance to pursue it but I still love singing. It is heart breaking when my meds or lupus causes vocal issues and I can’t sing. But on the days I can I love to record covers of Taylor Swift’s songs. I admire Taylor’s strength so much and while I’m older than her she has taught me a lot about life and her music has gotten me through the bad days of Lupus including surgeries. I love seeing Taylor helping her fans with money in these trying times. While I’m stressed I’m sure with the government help and our savings we will be fine. But so many others are not and desperately need that money. I just want to thank you Taylor for all you do and for being my guiding light in the darkness. I do not want any money, but would love a chance to meet you one day and hug you and thank you face to face for the huge impact you have had on my life.
