any idea how gwyndolin had thought about smough at the end? (bonus points on his thoughts of ornstein for basically abandoning anor londo)
// Based on what we have learned from DS3 ( so, not necessarily what you will see me RP, depending on the partner ), I’d say he actually ended up having more respect for the cannibal that so many despised than most other people he came in contact with over the course of his life. The fact is, Smough stayed. He completed his task to the best of his ability and he, apparently, listened to Gwyndolin, perhaps even came to respect him, at least enough to stay for all of that time. I’m certain the god was still a bit ehhh about him being a cannibal, but to each his own. That loyalty would come before all else in his eyes.
Ornstein’s situation is… a bit complicated. I have a hard time believing that Gwyndolin would have sent him off to find his forgotten brother ( in many ways, he’s the reason Gwyndolin is stuck in the position he’s in ) for aid or simply let Ornstein go searching for him as an act of kindness. The man has a duty, to guard the cathedral… and he’s not doing it. I don’t think Gwyndolin would approve of his absence. In fact, once Ornstein’s gone, it wouldn’t surprise me to find that ( whether Velka was around to say it was a sin or not ) he would have Blades sent after him, as punishment for his betrayal, his abandonment of his duty. It seems pretty clear to me that, despite having to seemingly bow down to and worship dragons, the so-called dragonslayer was still willing to go the distance just to try and reach the Nameless King. So, with that in mind, I doubt he was sent after him. I think he wanted to leave, wanted to find him.
And, in Gwyndolin’s eyes, a god stripped of his status being chosen over him?
Inexcusable.

@ligetraesc would you care to add your theories here? I don’t like anyone else’s.

ligetraesc: Well, I figure in at least one timeline he /did/ leave Anor Londo / If just to get the damn armor up to Archdragon Peak / And I was debating if maybe Yorshka was part of said decision to leave / That one line you had in your fic with Velka and Yorshka - about how she was surprised that Yorshka was even alive if Ornstein was still around - got me thinking that maybe that could be a schism point between him and Lin? / Orn might well have gotten feeling… chained, shall we say, over the years, especially since waiting around for a /human/ to link the Flame obviously wasn’t yielding great results
velka-of-sin: I follow [chinhands]
ligetraesc: And so he might have urged Lin to take a more active approach to finding a way to do this, since half the humans or more just crisped to ash if the even got /close/ to the Flame, and the ones that /did/ manage to link it obviously were less of a permanent solution than they’d hoped
velka-of-sin: this makes sense, yessss / LIGHTNING DOESNT HANG AROUND, LIN
ligetraesc: Assuming that, in this timeline, you have the Nameless as Firstborn rather than Solaire, perhaps he bitterly suggests finding the traitor and seeing if that /godly/ Soul would suffice instead
velka-of-sin: I like this
ligetraesc: Since the fucking /humans/ aren’t cutting it by a long shot
velka-of-sin: it makes perfect sense to me
ligetraesc: So you have this tension between them, with Lin waiting for the waxing and waning, patient to go with the flow of the world / And Ornstein going ‘waiting hasn’t worked we have to MAKE THINGS HAPPEN’
velka-of-sin: I’m liking this a lot more than “ornstein and nameless were fucking”
ligetraesc: and then Lin finds this little…. whatever-she-is, dragon-blooded? Seath-remnant? Yorshka / And he’s taken a liking to her, calls her his /sister/, even
velka-of-sin: Its been in my head that she remembered gwynevere sort of and nameless not at all and hes like the mystical relative no one talks about / but hell that could have been fake gwynevere / who knows
ligetraesc: And that’s just the last straw, basically one of the last Lords taking up with this /dragon-creature/, and he finally pitches a fit and /leaves/
velka-of-sin: this is good this is yes i approve
ligetraesc: [nodnod] Gwynevere is probably more just a set of images and soft sound in her head, not complete /memories/, just impressions
velka-of-sin: ^^^ yes she remembers a lot of smiles and white and that gwynevere seemed very friendly but other than that
