Moments from the last few days, at home & at the trailer
Dusk at my trailer home in the middle of the forest. The daisies are blooming everywhere & the mullein just keeps getting taller.
Anna Wilson-Patterson - Prospect Cottage Cat. Oil on wood.
“Isn’t it plain the sheets of moss, except that they have no tongues, could lecture all day if they wanted about spiritual patience? Isn’t it clear the black oaks along the path are standing as though they were the most fragile of flowers? Every morning I walk like this around the pond, thinking: if the doors of my heart ever close, I am as good as dead. Every morning, so far, I’m alive. And now the crows break off from the rest of the darkness and burst up into the sky—as though all night they had thought of what they would like their lives to be, and imagined their strong, thick wings.”
— Landscape, by Mary Oliver, Dream Work
nobody really wants to hear it but lasting relationships include a lot of forgiveness
stop asking me wyd i’m literally always thinking about love and how it touches every aspect of the human experience
I think what really gets to me about Instagram is how it forces u to interact with the gaze that ppl see themselves thru — and legitimizes the need for that gaze to exist at all. Every post is enveloped in the sticky film of the poster’s internalized anxiety about the quality of their own performance of themselves. There is nothing good about a world where we have become so accustomed to watching us watch us that we’ve stopped differentiating between the people we are and the people we think we need to appear to be to trick the watcher in our heads into telling us we’re worthy
Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won't either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could.

“Maybe in a year I could write something. There is something in me maybe someday to be written; now it is folded, and folded, and folded, like a note in school.”
— Sharon Olds, from “September 2001: New York City,” in Stag’s Leap (Alfred A. Knopf, 2012)

You break patterns by responding differently.
I love how it’s only embarassing if you’re embarrassed
