People say "go to therapy" when they mean "you're making me uncomfortable and I wish you wouldn't exist near me anymore."

Going to therapy doesn't mean being removed from society, dumbass. Hell, getting institutionalized doesn't even mean that; most psychiatric hospitalizations are temporary.

You're not concerned about my mental health; don't pretend that you are. You just don't want me to say what I'm saying around you.

Light yagami’s clear depressive symptoms aren’t talked about enough in the fandom. He is definitely not “just slightly bored” he’s anhedonic and intellectually lonely, due to his intelligence and how he’s always expected to be perfect. (The perfect student, perfect brother, perfect son) He’s popular, yes but he as barely any real friends who he actually cares about. The only people that he does harbour some semblance of care about is his family. No mentally well person would become a mass murderer with a god complex just to feel any form of dopamine boost.

He’s lowkey relatable in this aspect but we don’t talk about that

I've been bumming around this fandom for 2+ years and only now have I seen this actually mentioned.

I called it "boredom" (退屈) at the time, because I didn't know the correct term for it, but yes, in hindsight, I was anhedonic. Pretty much my whole life, although it gets especially bad in the summers or during breaks, when I have no set schedule and nothing really to do.

I'd appreciate hearing more about how you find me "relatable", if you feel like sharing.

DID YOU KNOW that sometimes characters lie. out loud to others and internally to themselves, and it'll happen right there on the page. other times they are just flat out wrong and don't know it. oftentimes they don't ever find that out. a sizable portion of any story is decidedly not cold hard fact.

Similarly: But just because a character can theoretically lie doesn't mean they're always lying. A character saying something doesn't mean it's always 100% true, but it's also unreasonable to base your interpretation of a story on the idea that someone is lying any time that's convenient for your theory.

You have to actually like... think... about what the character's motivations are, and what the themes of the story are trying to tell you... and only then can you understand.

This phrase has already entered my vocabulary re: media criticism where like. The viewer has a concrete view of what they expect a story to be based on the tropes and cliches they're used to seeing together, and when that doesn't happen, they judge it as a failed depiction of what they assumed it was going to be instead of judging it as what it actually is.

"This show is problematic because the hero didn't kill the villain at the end": When does he steal the bread?

"These two characters who were close friends throughout the series don't kiss at the end! What the fuck?": When does he steal the bread?

"This feels like it's missing a conclusion! Like, the protagonist does bad stuff and because of a critical decision he makes as a result of his major character flaws, meets tragedy in the end! Where's the part where he learns better and brings is love back from the dead and becomes a good guy and gets a happy ending?": When does he steal the fucking bread??

joining the war on kids reading any book they want on the side of kids reading any book they want. simply you will be fine. it's even good to be confronted with things you don't understand and even find upsetting, uncomfortable and difficult. it's a surprise tool that will help you later.

literally ok so not a funny story but kind of funny? when I was nine I encountered rape in a book and I was like hey mom what’s this mean and she explained it and I was like oh. gross. and then like two weeks later a girl on the bus abruptly disclosed her csa and we were all like ????? what ???? but I was like wait hang on there’s a word for that ☝️🤓 and explained what it meant and that it was illegal and that you could talk to a teacher or my mom if it had happened to you and everyone was like ohhhhh I see I see and very somberly comforted the girl (she was safe she was removed from her home and living with my neighbor at the time so it wasn’t Urgent)
