Histrionic Personality Disorder is characterized by a long-standing pattern of attention-seeking behavior and extreme emotionality. While often lively, seductive, and sometimes dramatic, they strongly desire to be the center of attention and feel uncomfortable when they aren’t. They may exaggerate behaviors so as to draw attention to themselves, in addition to making loud and inappropriate appearances. They specifically use their physical appearance to garner the attention they profoundly crave. Oftentimes described as ‘’theatrical’’, they’ll usually exaggerate their expressions of emotions, even going as far as feigning illnesses. Those with HPD are easily influenced by others since they desperately seek acceptance and approval, and are quite sensitive to criticism. It’s also not uncommon for them to consider relationships to be more intimate than they actually are. Typically in relationships to others they often act out a role (often the ‘’victim’’ or ‘’princess’’) and seek to control their partner by use of emotional manipulation and seductiveness, whereas they show a great deal of attachment and dependency on them at another level.

Eric Colvin, Aaron Stanley, were two United States Army Sergeants involved in a Meth operation which took place near Fort Riley located in Kansas, in 2004, which resulted in the deaths of Staff Sgt. Matthew Werner and Spc. Christopher Hymer, which all started with rumors of Stanley sleeping with Werner’s wife, as Werner drove out to the rural farmhouse accompanied by Hymer to confront Stanley, Colvin and Stanley believed the duo were bringing the police and began to destroy evidence of their drug operation, and planned a shoot-out, loaded with five rifles, and three knives they prepared for a fight. After Werner and Hymer were let into the house, a fight ensued and Stanley shot Werner and Hymer with a rifle. To avoid life in prison, Covin testified against Stanley and the murder charges were dropped, Aaron Stanley is facing life in prison with no chance of parole in Fort Leavenworth Prison.

Charles Albright was a serial killer who was nicknamed ‘’The Eyeball Killer’’ due to his common act of removing his female victims’ eyes after brutally killing them. Charles expressed interest in becoming a surgeon, but failed to complete his pre-med training at university. Much like Jack the Ripper, Charles strictly targeted prostitutes. In 1990, Charles shot his first victim in the back of the head and removed both her eyes. Her body was found lying face-up, only clad in a t-shirt rolled up to expose her breasts. Only two months later, Charles would launch his second attack on yet another prostitute, whose breasts were found displayed as well. She’d been shot three times and she, too, had her eyes surgically removed. A month later, Charles would kill his last and final victim–a part-time prostitute–before being apprehended shortly after. Her eyes, like his previous two victims, had been surgically removed.

Charles was sentenced to five years to life in prison, which he continues to serve out today at the age of 81.

This Day In Crime History

On July 21, 1873, Jesse James and his group of outlaws committed the first train robbery in Iowa. Having learned of $75,000 worth of gold was aboard the train, which was headed to Adair, Iowa from the Cheyenne Region. The Outlaws derailed the train, causing the death of two and injuring passengers aboard. Upon entering the safe, Jesse James and his group learned that the gold shipment had been delayed, and only $3,000 worth of cash and possessions from passengers were stolen. This was the world’s first moving train robbery.

“The Children of Thunder”, a religious fanatic group lead by former stockbroker Glen Helzer with his brother, Justin Helzer and Dawn Godman as accomplices, sought to bring about the destruction of the Mormon Church and reign a new era of Christianity, with Glen leading the way. Seeking ways to fund this crusade, Glen, and Justin began selling drugs, when this was not enough, Glen Helzer preyed upon elderly clients from his days as a stockbroker. Ivan and Annette Stineman were forced to write $100,000 in checks. Afterwards, The Children of Thunder drugged, beat, and dismembered the Stineman’s on August 2, 2000. After a failed attempt to cash the checks by using Selina Bishop for fear of being exposed, daughter of musician Elvin Bishop, the brothers bludgeoned her to death, and then targeted Selina’s mother, Jennifer Villarin and her boyfriend was murdered as well due to being a witness.

The Children of Thunder were arrested on August 7, 2000, to which Glenn Helzer tried to take all of the blame for the crimes. Dawn testified against the brothers in exchange for 38 years to life with the possibility of parole, Glen and Justin were sentenced to death. Justin Helzer was found dead in his cell on April 14, 2013 by hanging. Glen Helzer and Dawn Godman remain in prison.
