River Phoenix; August 23, 1970 - October 31, 1993
“Although I can’t stop all cruelty to living creatures on the planet, I can be kinder to every living creature in my life.”
Lets take a moment to appreciate all the things River Phoenix accomplished
“Music is a whole oasis in my head. The creation process is so personal and fulfilling.”
“We need an extreme movement because what is happening to animals is so extreme. Some misinformed people claim that animal rights activists are terrorists, but these people are simply ignorant of who the real terrorists are - the companies and industries that torture literally billions of animals each year.”
“I did my best work in The Mosquito Coast. I know it wasn’t such a big hit, but for me it was more meaningful than anything else I’ve ever done.”
“I never think of me as an actor. I see all of this as new experiences each time, like as many different lives. As many reincarnations. So when I watch my last movie, I’m unable to judge or to be critical. For me, it’s past, and I don’t feel any connection to it anymore, like if it was somebody else than me that I’m not responsible for. I immersed myself in another life that the character appropriated. He expressed himself through me, not the other way around.”

“It still strikes me as strange that anyone could have any moral objection to someone else’s sexuality. It’s like telling someone how to clean their house.”

“I’ve learned that if you can’t get it all together to accomplish this thing called peace, you do at least you part in life, because that’s where you can truly make an immediate difference.”
- River Phoenix (August 23, 1970 - October 31, 1993)
today, October 31st, marks the anniversary of river jude phoenix’s death. there was always something so special about river, the way he lived so fast and graced the screen, influencing not only me, but so many others to become great actors. river has always been such a significant part in my life. his role as mike in my own private idaho changed me in a way I cannot explain and his devotion to each part he played was the key to his success. but the real river is what meant the most to me. as a musician, river loved music above anything else and as an activist, river fought to make a change. whether it be climate change, animal rights, or feminism, river always advocated. not only did he preach, but he practiced. becoming vegan and going to events, river proved that having a voice can make a difference. and that is why this day has always been so hard because I truly believe that this world would be a better place if river were alive today. he was humble and kind and refused to be anything less than real. and i’m so grateful to have a role model like him. I will never forget about him for as long as I live. R.I.P river, I love you deeply.
“The river is everywhere at the same time, at the source and at the mouth…in the ocean and in the mountains, everywhere, and that the present only exists for it, not the shadow of the past, nor the shadow of the future…Siddhartha the boy, Siddhartha the mature man and Siddhartha the old man [are] only separated by shadows, not through reality…Nothing was, nothing will be, everything has reality and presence.” -Siddhartha
24 years you left this place. Not a day goes by that you don’t cross my mind ❤
A beautiful human who was taken away from the world way too soon. I hope you found peace river rest easy❤️
Rest peacefully, sweet River Jude | August 23rd, 1970 - October 31st, 1993 “This is what you shall do; Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, […] re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem” - Walt Whitman

Happy 47th Birthday, Dearest River “It is a very beautiful river. I have often listened to it, gazed at it, and I have always learned something from it. One can learn a lot from a river.“ - Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse

Happy Birthday to River Phoenix!!
Happy birthday to another of my favorite radiant, luminous beings…the world needs more of you, but I’m glad you were one of a kind…love you Riv.
Run to the rescue with love, and peace will follow. (River Phoenix)
River would have been 47 years old today. He was an extraordinary young man! Not just for his acting, but mostly, for everything he believed in, stood for, promoted, and symbolised. Just read that quote again and see how wise he was for just a kid in his twenties. In River, there was decency, kindness, hope and love. He saw the world and everything in it as something to be cherished and respected. We need more people like him in this world today!
“Happy birthday River. You changed my life for the better. A force for peace and love which still uplifts our mentality to this day. I loved every second I was with you my friend” - Ione Skye
“Rest peacefully River. My aunt took these beautiful photos of River Phoenix back in 1991 when she had seen the band he was in, Aleka’s Attic, perform at UM. Today would have been River’s 47th Birthday and I wanted to share two of the photos she had taken that day. River has a light about him that continues to shine. His kind, caring, compassionate heart has continued to touch the lives of many. It was so special for me to see all the pictures my aunt had taken, capturing a moment in time that will last forever. Happy Birthday River Phoenix, continue to shine brightly ☀️”
