So,   what are you guys   ?   I mean,   what do people call you   ?    Uh,   well,   weâve been called demonologists.   Thatâs one name for us.   Ghost hunters,   paranormal researchers.    KOOKS.    Wackos.     BUT WE PREFER TO BE KNOWN SIMPLY AS ED AND LORRAINE WARREN.

Open-mindedness is something Alana tries to always keep. It can be hardâ so staunch, so logic-minded, so insistent on fact and detail. Alana has a chronic tendency to think in knowledge and forget the possibility aspect. Itâs just an issue, something she doesnât necessarily mean to do. But she does it.
She smiles. The comparison is strangely warming, then, the I was in your place. People use that kind of discussion in order to create a sense of tangible empathyâ and it works, Alana knows, she hears it loudly. There is feeling and sincerity and softness here to be found.
She thinks about how brave it is, to be soft.
She feels very at-ease when she listens. She wonders what itâs like and if Lorraine ever works with children. She can imagine a small handful of them gathered around her like ducklings, eyes intent and up, bright and curious. She can imagine that voice used and how gentle it must be, how soothing. She thinks Lorraine must be an excellent mother.
âThat must be very lonely,â Suddenly, Lorraine looks at her, and her own eyes perhaps mirror an infinite blue translucence, mirror to mirror, like they might trip one after the other into each otherâs shade, âTo have no way to move on. To be entrapped with a sense o claustrophobia as though others canât hear you, so really your only choice is to try to disrupt in whatever way you can. To relive a moment without escape, to be stuckâ that sounds so.. so lonely.â
The concept is staggering.
â   It is.   â   Whether the ghost were vocal about it or not,   she could feel it in the air   â   sense it from them.   Just as one would be if they were in complete   &   utter solitude.   â   For some.   The reasons for disrupting a person,   or a family say,   are⊠  vast,   &   loneliness is barely breaking the ice.   Especially when youâre dealing with the Demonic.   Theyâve little to no care.   â   Her eyes break from the very similar blue pools,   the small scuttle of cats in the hallway diverting her attention;   a large,   multi-colored feline prancing itâs way into the kitchen,   almost as if it knew itâd been heard.   Instinctively,   her right hand dropped from the table in order to pet him. The calm nature of the woman causes her squared shoulders to relax.   Alana werenât a believer but she were respectable,   pleasant.   Something oddly comfortable about the woman.   Though Lorraine could handle the skeptics with grace,   one didnât quite need to handle Dr. Bloom;   tolerable on her own.   â   And with the Demonic,   I would say it's far better that they are   ENTRAPPED   than to have them at large.   Then,   youâll always know where they are.   â   Which is precisely why their home stood theirs,   too.   Here,   they couldnât hurt anybody under continuous blessing,   and should something happen,   Ed   &   herself knew how to handle it.   Unlike those whoâs possession theyâd been in previously.

smoke wrapped around tommyâs fingers as eyes honed in on the woman, cigarette sitting between the calipers of two them. quite the unlikely candidate for the bar maidâs position. far too soft. theyâd eat her alive. gorgeous, too. he wasnât going down that route againâoh no. a billow of smoke was blown before he aired his decision. the only words spoken to her, mind. still â no use in dragging along a dead horse was there? â thereâs no place for you âere, love. go on home. â
The smoke cloud dances a frame around her as she stands,   only a slow nod given in response.   His interest had long lost itself despite the conversation reigning short.   She knows it,   too.   Not a woman to put herself below the bar but even she,   herself,   had had a mixed battle over the decision.   Heels echo off the open space   &   it isnât until sheâs near gone,   between the bar space and the door,   that she hesitates a moment,   before once again turning to face the smokey source.   Icy blues pierce similar ones.
â   If you donât mind me saying,   Mr. Shelby,   it would be in best interest to leave your demons at battle.   ---   Youâre deserving of quite the rest.   â   Though aware of the sins committed by the man,   heâd fought for their country,   and the death encircling him were a burden no one person should be placed with.
I highly recommend you follow the person I reblogged this from.

Thereâs a curious hum. Her head tilts, and then it shakes, the whole motion itself strangely fluid at once. Thereâs poise here being mirrored in Alanaâs own natural grace, âNo. I believe in behaviorism. I believe people do what they do on moralistic basis of their own beliefs of right and wrong. Now if youâre asking me who put the right and wrong there, Iâm a strong proponent for nature and nurture in tandem.â The devil. But youâve seen it. Youâve seen the right and the wrong in one place.
His right sometimes outdid his wrong. (She pushes the thought away.)
âPlease. Donât be sorry. By the same token, ask me anything youâd like. I donât often say that, but you donât seem the type whoâll take advantage,â And Alana is never wrong, âIâm not sure what I do believe in. I suppose Iâm sure of the absence of belief, but something empty is so often waiting to be filled, isnât it?â
She mimics the gesture, if unconsciously, takes a sip. (Good coffee, a rarity.)
âAs a woman of God, and a woman of whatever youâve experienced, I take it you hold strong beliefs in both, the good and the bad. My profession dictates I canât adhere to eitherâ everything is grey. But Iâd like to ask about whatâs made it evidence for you. Whatâs shaped your belief.â
Where Alana were concerned,   her beliefs did her well.   Lorraine respected that wholeheartedly.   â   I suppose in your profession that makes sense.   Ours requires a bit more of an⊠  open mind.   Though,   behavior plays a large part,   I will say.   â   Not to color the Doctor in the wrong way   (  though,   in slight,   she did perceive the woman as less open minded   )   but one couldnât justify some of the experiences endured in the same way;   with that frame of mind,   as say the ones Alana were dealing with.   The inhuman,   ghosts,   the demonic⊠  They werenât analyzed the same as a murderer,   a sinner.   Albeit,   the Devil wished that temptation upon all.   It just werenât plausible.
â   Absolutely.   The absence isnât⊠  unusual.   â   No,   they  â   her husband   &   herself,   were deemed the unusual ones.   Crazy ones.   In reference to the inhuman,   at least.   â   Iâve been in your place.   â   Not with God but in other terms.   Ed had turned her into a believer.
Mouth slightly agape,   hovering just above the cup,   she almost speaks too quickly.   â   Well,   thatdepends   â   â   the cup finds itâs home back on the plate,   finger idly drawing patterns around the grip in thought.   â   â   if youâre talking about God or the inhuman.   â   A breath drawn.   â   I went to a private Catholic School as a little girl.   My family is of Roman Catholic religion.   I donât think it were ever a question of if I were going to believe in God⊠  not that I was pushed to,   â   Of course,   it were probably expected,   it hadnât changed her view.   â   I just did.   I do.   â   As sure as she is her own presence,   she is of His.   Of all things   &   beyond.   Good   &   Bad. â   Ed fueled the other path.   I was skeptical at first but heâd had an encounter of his own long,   long before weâd met.   You see,   I know when heâs lying,   always have.   â   I knew he wasnât.   â   The shiver of a smile tugs at her lips.   He were truly her one   &   only.   â   We were just kids⊠ Painters,   at the time;   thought weâd be doing that for the rest of our lives,   and as usual,   outside of some strangers house,   who had no idea what was lurking around their home.   I guess entirely neither did we⊠  Weâd heard there were some strange occurrences⊠  It werenât our first either but we hadnât exactly been calling them cases quite yet.   The man Iâd seen had lived there years prior;   a very sad,   personal tragedy for him.   Hadnât seen to find his way onward⊠  to the light,   so to speak.   â   The smile had faded from her lips by the time her eyes met Alanaâs again.   â   It were in the very beginning⊠  some of the less powerful cases really,   that shaped the belief.   Standing where I am now,   though,   there is a handful of them that stick out in particular.   Less fortunate ones.   â
â± @defenestratio. âșâș
âNo,â the answer is simple and quick. Her smile, strangely, does not leave in the face of the atheistic declaration. Sheâs easygoing about her beliefâ calm. It makes no difference to her at all. âNo, I had previously held some belief in something, though even then I couldnât tell you what. I was raised with very very lose Catholic beliefs, though I identify heavily with the Judaic aspect of my heritage. Thereâs something more attractive to me about the age of such tradition. And Iâm a poor Buddhistâ I donât practice well or often, Iâll admit, but I try to observe the beliefs. As a professorâ and a teacher, which Iâm sure someone like you understands, someone so dedicated to explanation and learningâ thereâs something about the idea that I like having to do with how rooted in instruction and constant improvement Buddhism is. How tied to serenity and goodness. Itâs very soothing.â She fiddles with the handle of her cane, a nervous habit, and she is nervous here. More anxious than she can speak of. Lorraine is kind and soft spoken, though Alana hears the undertones of strength and authority in her voice. For all intents and purposes the two of them are very similar, she thinks, though so much of her kindness has been shed in favor of her frost. âAlana. Please. Doctor Bloom and I havenât been acquainted for some time. Not even my students call me that,â the title makes her shudder inadvertently, its memory a wraith of a shadow, âYouâre a woman after my own heart. Itâs interestingâ in my line of work Iâve seen the worst of humanity, detailed it, and tried only to glean the best of it. Iâve seen the devil and divinity in equal measure, where human behavior is concerned. Sometimes all in one person. But your plateau of knowledge is so much more fascinating to me.â
To each their own,   yes.   It werenât her job to force her beliefs onto another,   more so enlighten one with them.   What they chose to do with the knowledge once it were given to them was their doing.   "   Soothing,   indeed.   â   She would give her that much.   However,   her intellect,   while vast,   didnât quite extend outward upon the aspects of it all.   She had after all grown up a Catholic herself.
â   In turn,   do you then not believe in the Devil   ?   â   A follow up question.   And in no way out of spite.   Rather a curiosity of her own.
â   Of course.   Alana.   My apologies.   â   The nervous nature of the other is apparent,   if only because the same feeling resides in her core.   They were undoubtedly open books.   As open as they couldpossibly be without placing others in a dangerous position.   Some things were far too evil.   But it were precisely that;   the revisiting⊠  It were not an easy path.   So long as they continued to help those in need their job was done.   And hopefully,   through being   OPEN BOOKS,   they could save others before it started. Her shoulders straighten⊠  Always a very poised woman.   Though not to say she werenât a little under dressed in comparison to their lectures;   the comfort of their own home makes a mark on her.   Nevertheless,   she is rather well-presented.   â   Experience helps to assist in knowledge.   I welcome to you ask anything you wish.   â   With that,   right hand idly grasps for her cup,   lifting the warmth to her face   &   taking a sip.

Alana Bloomâs been asked to speak to Lorraine Warrenâ and most times she would decline, politely remind sheâs in retirement, that she doesnât work as a psychiatrist any longer. And yet she finds herself visiting the Warrens with an air of curiosity that isnât one of a skepticâ itâs surprisingly child-like, an interest hidden beneath the impeccable pinstripe Givenchy suit just under the heavy red coat, meticulously curled hair and bright red lipstick, faint eyeshadow, tight black gloves and a limp not even remotely concealed with the assistance of a sleek black cane, handle a vibrant gold.
âYour home is so lovely. It must be very relievingâ itâs a sojourn of sorts, isnât it? A place well-loved,â Sheâs been in her company minutes and already Alanaâs running the empathy meter, averting a gaze from eyes a blue very similar to her own, âI have to say, Mrs. Warren, the work you do isfascinating. I canât imagine that kind ofâ faith, I think is the word Iâm looking for. That kind of thing where someone has to put belief before analysis. You and I run different routes, there. I truly respect you for it.â Skepticism in the paranormal? Much less than skepticism in the religious.
Hands clasped together on the table in resting position,   her fingers lacing together as her attention turned solely to the woman in red.   â   A sojourns of sorts peaked her brow.   The compliment served a warm smile in thanks.   â   We⊠  â   Well,   it werenât entirely wrong.   Not quite accurate or how she would put it either.   â   When Ed   &   I get a case we do our best to stay close to home but⊠  If someone is across the country or in a different state,   itâs out of our hands.   We just go where weâre needed.   But the house is never unoccupied;   my mother watches our daughter while weâre away.   â   Their daughter   &   tiny zoo of animals,   she should say.
â   Well,   thank you,   â   the appreciation is apparent on her face but really,   she hadnât a clue whether thanking Dr. Bloom were the appropriate response.   The words still slipped between her lips though.   â   My faith is what has kept me⊠  (   SAFE   ??   )   But I believe what I see.   What Iâve seen.   "   Contradictory because there were a time she hadnât.   Her gift hadnât always been a gift⊠  From a young age she could remember being told it were anything but.   And sheâd learned quick to conceal it.   Even she herself had been a skeptic.   Until,   of course,   her husband.   â   Thereâs surely no greater analysis than self witness.   â   And oh did Lorraine   KNOW   it.
â   Do you believe in God,   Dr. Bloom   ?   â
A drop in temperature,   cold enough for teeth to chatter.   The uneasiest of feelings creeping up your spine,   and you involuntary scratch an inch;   itâs only an itch.   An atmosphere so suffocating it could cripple you.   Hallowed eyes,   dark as spheres   &   menacing as ever.   Those were only a few of the many signs that an inhuman presence lingered within ones home.   And while Lorraine couldnât,   wouldnât for that matter   ---   she knew her instincts far too well to just shove them aside,   ignore the fluttering of her heart   &   the rising,   knowing sense making a home in her bones she finds it   ALMOST   safe to assume that there isnât an entity lurking about the corridors somewhere,   shielding itself.   Onward,   however,   she doesnât allow ego to get the best of her. Itâs during her descent down the hallway,   the slightest of change in atmosphere;   not colder nor hotter,   that drives the Clairvoyant to a halt.   It didnât take one with a   SIXTH SENSE   to conclude she were not alone.   The smallest turn of her head gave her just a glimpse of the other...
For a moment,   sheâs frozen in place.   Sheâd dealt with   PURE EVIL.   Those that werenât just trapped souls but those who had professed to Satan himself.   But were that what stood behind her   ?   A quick intake of breath reminded her sheâd not been drawn from reality.   No,   she were very well with the present.   Turned now:   â   ---   Who are you   ?   â   No other way than to confront it as a manipulation.
@spcilers visits the occult museum.
Tea   &   biscuits had been pre-set.   Common courtesy often extended to those who visited their home;   unless you were Drew,   in which case he knew directly where the fridge   &   coffee pot were.   But in this particular case it were Dr. Bloomâs first time.   They may not have anything to hide but theyâd certainly not make   FOOLS   of themselves either.   Though,   it would seem the public deemed them to already have.   Nonetheless,   new linen is draped over the table;   the house no longer appears as if they havenât been there in a week   ---   in truth,  they hadnât   ---   or so;   &   now,   aside from the two women sat at the table,   it were otherwise quiet.
â   Is there anything else I can get you before we begin   ?   â   It werenât every day that Lorraine were the one participating in the one on one interviews.   Of course,   the lectures were,   in their own way,   interviews in themselves,   dissecting the paranormal,   the pre-to-natural.   Even themselves.   Ed more than she handled the skeptics.   He were the leading of the two,   and they worked well that way.   But here she were,   across from the psychiatrist.   â   Itâs no bother.   â
