as silly as it is, i am infinitely endeared by how some fics writers will write a robot getting injured and assume they are just stored full of oil. a scratch? oil. a deeper wound? oil. broken-off arm? oil.
like its just so distincly Not how robots work that it makes me giggle everytime <3

hello, do you have any book recommendations that deal with elements of eldritch horror but aren’t strictly of the horror genre? i’m not a huge fan of horror but i absolutely adore bloodborne and its atmosphere, and how, for me at least, although there are horrific elements in the lore and gameplay i would never call it a horror game per se bc playing bloodborne never made me feel like the game “wanted” me to feel afraid, if that makes sense? i am looking for a similar experience in written form. i felt like you might be the right person to ask but if not then that’s perfectly ok too!
hmmm. i dont have many specific recommendations (ive been struggling to get back into reading rn), and itll be hard to recommend you stuff that doesn't overlap with the horror genre, (not sure how to quantify how much a book "wants" you to be afraid) but i do work at a bookstore so i have some ideas of what general genres you might want to check out
firstly i recommend checking out sci fi thrillers. the settings will likely be different from bloodborne's , but stories that deal with cosmic horror elements without being explicitly entirely of the horror genre can very often be found in science fiction stuff. and if youre looking for an eerie atmosphere without a focus on scares, thrillers might be a bit more your speed. I recently read Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer, it's definitely super super eerie but it has a very complex and distinct atmosphere and air of mystery that's super intriguing
additionally (and this wont exactly fit your criteria of it being abt eldritch horror but its worth mentioning), you might check out action-horror books (personally i would define bloodborne as being action-horror). maybe its just me but i find that scary settings are much less frightening if there's an element of agency and the ability to fight back. worth checking out
tl;dr if i was at work rn I'd definitely point you to the sci fi section, i recommend hitting up your local bookstore and reading the backs/inside covers of a few as a starting point
Hex glitching out, Whitty having a mental breakdown, Sky and Sarv turning into demons, Shaggy using 0.01%- percent of his power, Zardy threatening to kill teenage trespassers, Tricky being a literal god, Ronald Mcdonald doing jojo poses, Ruv making earthquakes, Tabi blowing up restaurants, Agoti geting furious, Tord bringing out a literal robot, and Matt being Matt:
