this might be overdramatic but i genuinely just picked up the last chapter of POD after not wanting it to end for so long :( kept up with your fic since the very beginning and i couldn’t bring myself to read the last chapter when you uploaded it 😭 i’m not even a lestappen fan anymore but today i remembered your fic and the joy seeing your updates brought me, the love that was so clearly poured into that fic and manifested between the two of them, and i just had to read it. i’m so incredibly sad it’s over. i miss your writing so so much and i will probably read the rest of what you’ve written and will write even if a lestappen fic doesn’t catch my attention like it used to!

i actually cried reading that last chapter. i really remember shamelessly refreshing the ao3 site in public waiting for your updates lol. i wish i could experience reading this fic all over again! so much tenderness, hope, the purest of all love into one fic and i get to consume it for free. you really had me crying for max and charles at several points in the fic…

No same...... I'm so bad about finishing stuff when I'm not ready to let it go. But I am so happy you finished it!!! ❤️🤧 I bawled like a baby when they had their wedding and Max saw Alonso again and they did their hunt/claiming that mirrored their first spar from part 1.

I am also so sad that it is over and I think about adding to it or doing more with it daily. (maybe I will 👀👀)

Charles flinches. He feels raw, exposed, like everyone can see the blooms unfurling in his chest.

And then Max is turning to him and sliding a possessive hand around the base of his skull. He waits until Charles meets his eyes.

“They don’t matter.” His long fingers curl in to press at the hinge of Charles’ jaw. “You will make them fall in love with you. Or.” Max swallows, throat bobbing reflexively. He leans in so close they’re breathing the same air. “Or you’ll get over them. Maybe…maybe fall for someone else. Anything can happen.”

“Anything,” Charles echoes, feeling insane. Max doesn’t know. Max is jealous of himself.

Or, Charles and Max have an arrangement to hook up during race weekends; half the grid knows. Charles has hanahaki; hardly anyone knows he’s heartsick, much less who he's pining over. Not his family, not Ferrari, and certainly not Max.

Paid for a witch to break their soulmate bond, it hadn’t worked, but Max remembers, and that is enough. He has a neat little scar behind his ear from where he had passed out in the shower. He woke up in the back of his father’s car with puke down his shirt, sitting in a pool of his own feces. He’d shit himself. He vomited again in the footwell of the car. Jos carried him into the emergency room over his shoulder. Max cries and cries for his mother but she comes too late, and by the time she is by his hospital bed he is too embarrassed to cry anymore. He hates you, Max. He doesn’t want to be your soulmate. Max is about to walk away when the door is thrown open.
