do the college program. To be totally honest, you likely won't get a full time "career" with Disney out of it, but you will get life experience and memories. You have the rest of your life to "grow up", work and pay bills. It'll come. You have now and this opportunity to enjoy. Unless you somehow are walking away from a dream job (one you already have landed) by check-in date, go... I am an alumni from 2011 and I'm trying to go again even though it has nothing to do with my career.

For so long, I’ve always dreamed about working for Disney. But now that I’m a little over a month away from moving down to Florida, instead of feeling excited, all I feel is fear and anxiety...
They tell you your 20′s is the best time of your life because you’re young and the world is literally an open book. Now is probably your only time to do the crazy things you’ve always wanted to do, so go do it!
What they don’t tell you is that the open-endedness of post-grad life is completely terrifying.
Back in February, I was accepted to the Disney College Program in Orlando, FL from August to January. A week later, I accepted the offer, and I’ll be working as a Photopass Photographer while I’m down there.
I’ve known about the Disney College Program since I was 15 years old, and it’s been something that I’ve always thought would be so cool to do. I’ve always loved everything Disney related, and grew up privileged enough to go to the Disney Parks for many summers.
But now that I’m so close to actually moving down and working there, I find myself questioning whether this is the right move to make. I know that doing the DCP is a great way to get my foot in the door, especially if I want to work for the company full-time one day (which I do). But I also know I’ll have to start paying back my student loans in November. What happens if I do manage to get a Professional Internship with Disney after my CP? Another 6 months of not making a lot of money or probably being able to pay off loans -- meaning it looks like doing a PI is out of the question.
My parents haven’t been supportive of me wanting to work for Disney either. I know it’s my life and not theirs, but I’ve always respected and based so many of my own decisions off of their input, and I hate the feeling of doing something that is so against what they think is the right choice to make (especially after they just put me through 4 years at BU). I promised them I would keep looking for full-time internships and jobs and that if I was offered a job, I would take it instead of going to Disney. If I do the CP will I be losing career momentum? I could be doing an internship in my actual career field in the fall instead. Don’t get me wrong, Photopass isn’t too far from my major (journalism) but if I ultimately want to work in communications/PR/journalism, wouldn’t an internship in that area be more beneficial? This is the biggest struggle, especially as I watch all my friends get their first “real” jobs, one by one.
Plus, 6 months away from home is a scary thought. That’s 6 months working crazy hours being away from all my friends, family, and boyfriend. Before it was easy to drive home or take a train for 2-3 hours. Now, I’ll be a 2-3 hour flight away. I never in a million years thought the distance would bother me in the slightest, but now I have to admit that it will be bittersweet, especially being away during the holiday season, my favorite part of the year.
Then again... people say working for Disney is a once-in-a-lifetime chance. And it has been a dream of mine for so long. And when else in my life will I get to do something as crazy as this? I can’t exactly start my career and then ditch for 6 months to work at Disney ever again.
All of these things have been swirling around in my head for the last 6 months. Do I play it safe or take a risk? Whenever friends ask me if I’m excited for Disney, I smile and say I am, but deep down I’m constantly worrying about all of this. I can’t even watch vlogs or videos of my favorite things at the parks without feeling guilty. It feels like I can’t allow myself to get excited because I’m so worried about everything, I don’t even know if I want to go anymore.
Is it even worth doing the CP anymore? All my life I’ve been so idealistic and easily swept up by dreams and ideas. Is it time to wake up and face reality?

lived in my first apartment (!!!!) with the best roommate(s)
learned how to cook more than just grilled cheese, without burning the place down
survived boston’s snowiest winter and a record 5 snow days
fell in love with a new best friend (eeew)
and went on a handful of amazing dates & adventures with him :)
welcomed the cutest class ever to bufsa!
finally got my two awesome littles <3 and expanded my bufsa family by +4
got to hang out with & know a handful of people better
survived being blog editor for the freep
decided to branch out and started writing for the features section
learned how to use photoshop/wordpress/a DSLR!
helped plan a successful lecture series with the one and only dante basco
taught/choreographed a filipino traditional for the first time!
choreographed a modern for the fifth time!
realized that everything really is a two-way street
learned that no matter what, as hurtful as it is there will always be people who don’t like you or make wrongful assumptions/judge you and that there’s nothing you can do about it
visited seaport for the first time...
and the ICA
and SoWA
and Montreal
created a bunch of memories in Canada that will come back to haunt me at senior night
got drunk off 2 glasses of champagne (lol)
ordered dominoes way too many times
wrote some articles & got some bylines
made some $$$
built a resume i’m actually proud of
had an EARGASM from seeing the boston pops perform~
ran a few miles to the Charles as the sun was setting, with an incredible view
experienced a lot of painful emotions...
...and a lot of really wonderful ones, too.
worked harder than i ever have this year
landed my dream internship, somehow
and got to stay in boston for the summer with my best friends
