“ oh, i’m not plannin' on dyin'.”
“Are you sure about that, darling?” He asked with a quirked eyebrow and gestured to the bottle in her hand. “Looks like you’re way past ‘drinking to forget’ and well into ‘drinking to never wake up’.”
“I mean - far be it from me to tell you what to do, strong independent woman like you are, but maybe it’s time to switch to water?” He reached out across the counter and laid a hand on top of hers.
(Matthew) “ you’re right. can’t cut corners on this one.”
“But that’s -...” Victor cut himself off and furrowed his brows. “You agree with me?” He asked incredulously and looked quite baffled where he stood. “And here I had prepared all these compelling arguments to get you to... nevermind. Well, since we’re of the same mind on this, perhaps we should get going?”
“ oh, i’m not planning on dying.”
“I find that people seldom do,” Victor replied with his back to the wall, trying to peek around the corner. “Just out of curiosity, what would you like written on your headstone?”
(Grant) “ what the hell was that?”
“That, my dear hick friend, is our queue to get the hell out of here,” Victor replied before he ushered Grant towards the stairs and back door.
“ he tried to kill me, so i killed him.”
“Mhm. By turning him into a kebab,” Victor nodded his head while admiring the impaled man. “Quite artfully done, might I add.”
“ he tried to kill me, so i killed him.”
“I don’t.... darling, I don’t think ‘killed’ does it justice,” Victor commented and stood there with his mouth still slightly open, looking at the man whose head had been taken out by a flash bang grenade.
“Where did you come from?”
“Are we talking on an existential level, or which door I came through?” Victor countered and inclined his head. “If it’s the latter - The back door was open and I let myself in.”
“ what the hell you need slippers for?”
“To wear on my feet. In my apartment. So that I can look posh and arrogant and sneer at people from my veranda with a glass of something bubbly,” he replied with a deadpan expression before he shrugged and added,
“Or maybe I just want something to smack people upside the head with. The world may never know.”
“This isn’t the time to go wandering around.”
“I wasn’t wandering around. I was investigating, meaning my alleged wandering had purpose. Big difference,” Victor interjected and held up a finger. “Besides, I found that thing you were looking for, so apology accepted,” he wa quick to add and held the box out towards Flo.
“ it says ‘go back’.”
“Mhm, I can see that,” he replied with a decisive nod of his head. “Although I’d say that is more of a polite suggestion, even if they forgot the word ‘please’.”
“You coming?”
(Slim) “Was…was that an owl…?”
“If by ‘owl’ you mean the Yao Guai living in the cabin on the other side of the hill, then yes. That was an owl,” Victor replied with a surprisingly straight face. “I would advice you to keep away from that place. They say he doesn’t take too kindly to strangers.”
Late Night Wanderings Sentence Starters
“What are you doing out this late?”
“This part of town isn’t a good place to be at this time of night.”
“Now what’s a pretty thing like you doing in a place like this?”
“You do realize what time it is, right?”
“Where are you going at this hour?”
“The sun isn’t rising anytime soon, you know.”
“Do you know where I am?”
“The city looks different at night.”
“This street is very dark…”
“Why don’t you come stand in the light?”
“Are you lost?”
“I got turned around in the dark…”
“This isn’t the time to go wandering around.”
“Only fools and trouble come out to these parts at this hour.”
“Looking for trouble, are we?”
“A little late to be shopping.”
“Just coming back from the bar?”
“Think any of the pubs are still going to be open?”
“Trouble lurks around every shadowed corner.”
“Woah! I didn’t see you there!”
“Where did you come from?”
“What are you doing here?”
“A bold move to show your face here in the shadows of night.”
“Go home.”
“It isn’t safe here at this time of night.”
“You’re being watched.”
“What are you doing still up?”
“Looking for something?”
“I like walking when the streets are empty.”
“It’s dangerous to walk at night alone.”
“I know where I’m going.”
“The trees are kind of spooky…”
“Did you hear that howl?”
“Was…was that an owl…?”
“This path is scary at night…”
“The woods is no place a __ after dusk.”
“Oh you poor soul, wandering lost in the forest under the new moon…”
“You can’t see the stars from here…”
“This is the witching hour.”
“Dark beasts lurk here. Be cautious.”
“Stay on the road!”
“Talking a midnight stroll along the beach?”
“The ocean is so mysterious at night…”
“What brings you to the pier at this hour?”
“What dangers lurk in these dark waters, I wonder.”
“You’re going to get yourself lost one of these days.”

“ what the hell is this mess?”
“ it means something, the way it’s all set up like that.”
“ he was right to send us out.”
“ we’re doing a righteous public service here.”
“ it says ‘go back’.”
“ i don’t believe this is happening.”
“ hey! hey! you knock it off. what the hell’s wrong with you?”
“ he chose you ‘cause he thought you were ready.”
“ if you keep announcing to the world that you’re pissing your pants, i’m gonna have to smash your teeth in.”
“ well, i’m gonna keep calling you __, all right?”
“ we having fun yet?!”
“ hello? is- is someone there?”
“ i’m not going to say where we are.”
“ are you- are you someplace safe?”
“ part of it is because we’re careful.”
“ what makes your place so safe?”
“ it’s just… away… from them.”
“ i’m with a good group of people. would you be willing– could you take in others?”
“ we can pull our weight. we can help you.”
“ i’d have to talk to the group.”
“ let me make a case.”
“ let me talk to them first.”
“ please, please, don’t- don’t go. just… please.”
“ we’re good people here.”
“ we just- we just need some help. we can help you.”
“ please! you don’t understand, you don’t know…”
“ we’re dying… we’re dying here.”
“ we’re running low on ammo, though.”
“ them shots just pulled every biter in this area our way.”
“ now you’re gonna rise to the occasion, son.”
“ some serious shit’s going down. i need you here. you read me?”
“ i don’t want you to die.”
“ now you know we don’t ever let our own turn. never.”
“ you know you can join in. they don’t bite. that’s kind of the whole idea of the place.”
“ seems like you also encourage people to punch each other in the face.”
“ you didn’t like that much, huh?”
“ listen, i want to ask you something.”
“ i’m not gonna tell you how to run your town.”
“ this is our town. you stayed. you’re part of this now.”
“ if it’s an escape, i don’t think it’s the right one.”
“ it’s brutality for fun, and i think the world’s brutal enough already.”
“ it really bothered you, huh?”
“ but i do wanna be here.”
“ so, what did you say before i made you condemn our sadistic way of life?”
“ i want to contribute. everyone else does.”
“ i want to work the wall. i’m a good shot. i want to stay that way.”
“ can you use a bow?”
“ i can learn.”
“ well, i can get somebody to teach you.”
“ and you want to come where we are?”
“ no attacks, no one’s been bit. no one’s died. no one’s turned, no one’s gone crazy.”
“ you could be dangerous.”
“ have you killed anyone?”
“ how many people have you killed?”
“ he tried to kill me, so i killed him.”
“ i don’t want to talk about that.”
“ i figure we can start tomorrow. there’s a training area, some hay bales.”
“ you must be pretty good.”
“ i mean, it’s worth more than my car. it’s… awesome.”
“ so i totally killed him for it.”
“ that wasn’t why you killed him.”
“ we’re not supposed to go over the wall!”
“ what the hell was that?”
“ that is how it’s done.”
“ i said i could do it.”
“ what is wrong with you? this isn’t a game.”
“ may i?”
“ i’m a ghost from the knee down.”
“ you saved my life.”
“ take your time, whatever you need.”
“ you carried us. you didn’t let us give up. you got us here.”
“ it’s not enough. it’s not safe enough.”
“ there isn’t anywhere else.”
“ i know you want to get away from this, but we’ve run already.”
“ i got a call. someone called. on this phone.”
“ if it’s safe, we’ll get there.”
“ don’t tell the rest of the group, not yet.”
“ i’ll sit here with you.”
“ i ran after them, but i couldn’t keep up.”
“ that was the hard part. you know, she was just gone. erased. nothing left of her.”
“ people said it was better that way.”
“ i don’t know. just made it seem like it wasn’t real, you know?”
“ i know why you want to see me.”
“ you were told we don’t go over unless we have to.”
“ i just… i wanted a little practice.”
“ i liked the fights. i didn’t like that i liked them.”
“ could’ve walked out. you started walking out. but you stayed.”
“ are you saying that i like you, too?”
“ i think i’m growing on you.”
“ you rose to the occasion. when we get back, i’m gonna get you a beer.”
“ no, no, no, no. we’re done. we’re gonna grab a car, haul ass home.”
“ i’m gonna keep going.”
“ ain’t worth our time. definitely ain’t worth our blood. now let’s go.”
“ this is some serious shit, that’s what you said.”
“ you’re right. can’t cut corners on this one.”
“ you’ve come along pretty quick, there.”
“ hear that bird?”
“ but if- if that’s what it takes.”
“ it would be good. you should talk about it.”
“ how… how do you know my name?”
“ it’s a beautiful day.”
“ get that duck.”
“ a kid growing up in a prison could use some toys.”
“ you were the kinda guy who waxed his car every weekend, right?”
“ my dog was a wonder of stupidity. lost a fight with a tree once.”
“ you did this.”
“ i find it hard to believe that you didn’t have a single thing that you were proud of before.”
“ so how long has it been? … uh, since- since you’ve had whiskey this good?”
“ well, i’m happy to forget a lot. not just the bad stuff.”
“ i want to be here… right now.”
“ you don’t have to be ashamed about liking the fight. or fighting the fight.”
“ it’s not the only thing, but nowadays, it’s part of being alive. really alive.”
“ most people don’t have it, what it takes to see the whole story.”
“ eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die”
“ oh, i’m not planning on dying.”
“ i like the quiet.”
“ and where is it you’re calling home?”
“ you made it.”
“ can you tell me, is __ alive?”
“ hey, you take me to him, and i’ll call it even on everything. no hard feelings. huh?”
“ fixed it up myself. pretty cool, huh?”
“ the fact that we found each other is a miracle.”
“ come on, now. you can trust me.”
“ you trust me. you stay here.”
“ put that gun in the car right now!”
“ what the hell you need slippers for?”
“ how do you know me?”
“ i loved you… i loved you.”
“ i couldn’t put it back together.”
“ i made a deal with myself. i would keep you alive.”
“ i couldn’t open that door. i couldn’t risk it.”
“ i was gonna keep you alive, and then… i thought there’d be time.”
“ i thought there’d be time… there’s never time.”
“ i lied when i said i was off the clock, this is a 24/7 kinda gig.”
“ should i hide under the bed?”
“ we lost all three guys.”
“ well, we’ll dress it up. give ‘em a hero’s funeral.”
“ you tell a story. a supply run gone sideways.”
“ from the looks of ‘em, they’ve got to be set up pretty good.”
“ everything okay?”
