My name is HENRY TURNER ———– son of WILL TURNER and ELIZABETH SWANN
FATHER
❝ I have SO much making up to do, ❞ Will dips his head, gaze trailing over the floor. He barely knows his son, there’s no denying it – but he’d love to. Surely Elizabeth has told Henry about his sea captain father, the ferryman of the oceans, but there’s been NOBODY to update him on what sort of person his son is growing up to be. Even the mundane things mean a lot in a period of such separation. What did Henry want to grow up to be, as a child? What’s his favourite colour? What family traditions do they have, which he isn’t aware of (despite being part of the family)? ❝ … come HERE. ❞ He gestures to the opposite seat at the table.
He could not deny the way his heart beat hard, fast and pronounced in his chest. Nerves crawled under his skin but Henry moved without hesitation to the seat his father had suggested he take. He tried to act with purpose rather than betray signs of his actual emotions in this moment. His hands felt as if they could shake, so he laid them in his lap so they wouldn’t be seen. He nearly reached for the necklace worn ‘round his neck - the one he’d never taken off since William first fave it to him. It was a natural habit when he was nervous to hold tight to it and think of his father for strength.
Henry’s dark eyes absorbed his father, looking over every line of familiarity and seeing the resemblance. There was nothing either of them could do to make up for the years lost between them, though a part of Henry truly wanted nothing more than to be a little boy who could crawl into his father’s lap and be held tight to him without it seeming odd.
For now, this is what they had. There was some piece of Henry that felt as if any moment he would be jerked awake and his father would be gone. He’d waited for this for so long, it was hard to understand the reality that he was here now and they were going to reach the trident before Captain Salazar could reach them.
❝ We’ll have plenty of time when we get the trident and you’re free to come home. ❞ Henry said with a smile that slowly grew, the truth of the statement heavy. His heart swelled in his chest and he felt the slight prick of tears behind his eyes, which caused him to take a slight sharp breath to instill he kept a steady hand on his emotions.

He said to let him go.
And just like that, everything made sense. In the true fashion of William Turner, he was attempting to protect those he loved, to save them as much heartache and danger as possible. It was the only way of being certain that Henry would remain out of harm’s way, that he would drop this quest and leave things as they were. While Henry took it as a rejection, Elizabeth saw it for what it truly was: an attempt to shield and protect him from the harsh realities and disappointments of the world in which they lived.
❛ Of course, Henry, ❜ she replied quickly and firmly. ❛ I am completely certain that there is nothing he wants more in this world than to be with us. ❜ She caressed his cheek gently with the backs of her fingers, her gaze falling to the trinket in his hand. Elizabeth had recognized it immediately, an ache overtaking her heart at the sight of it. He’d been so close and yet Elizabeth had never felt farther away from him.
❛ Come here. ❜ Gently, she took Henry’s hand and shut the door behind them, leading him to one of the chairs in the small sitting room. Elizabeth sat down, pulling him onto her lap and holding him close. ❛ Let me tell you a little something about your father, ❜ she began, pressing a soft kiss to the side of his damp head. ❛ William Turner is easily the most self-sacrificing person I have ever known. He has a very big heart — not unlike someone else I know. ❜ She looked at him meaningfully, a small, knowing smile upon her lips. ❛ He would do anything within his power to keep the people he loves safe. And it’s entirely possible that chasing after some all-powerful trident is going to be far more dangerous than you realize. ❜
The very idea of Henry going on such an adventure was enough to make her heart leap into her throat. Elizabeth wanted to forbid it, to tell him to give up the quest as well. But she knew how hurt he had been by Will’s doing so; she knew, too, how stubborn her son could be ( somewhere her father was smiling at the karmic justice ). He would undoubtedly continue on this path regardless of what either of his parents said, and it was for that exact reason that Elizabeth couldn’t bring herself to fully dismiss the idea.
❛ Tell me about this trident. ❜
His mother brought him into the safety of their home, a place where there was always love, and though his tears stopped falling with her gentle touch on him, Henry still felt the ache spread through his chest. His small hand in hers, Henry followed his mother into the sitting room and went willingly as she pulled him into her lap. His big eyes were red-rimmed and watery and though he was still wet, he clung close to her. For a moment he closed his eyes and let the peace of the moment between them, allowing himself to be filled completely with leaning on her touch, her warmth, and her affection.
Let me tell you something about your father.
Henry’s eyes opened and he strained, barely breathing. He was always so attentive when anyone spoke of William Turner, wanting to be certain he didn’t miss a word which was said. Even now, having been told to allow his father to suffer the curse, Henry still couldn’t give up on William. His little fingers curled tighter around the necklace his father had given to him.
As his mother spoke, Henry looked up at her, a small smile teasing the corner of his mouth when she spoke of big hearts. The smile fell away as she mentioned the possible danger of chasing the trident. His heart sunk. He wanted to argue, but he knew she wasn’t wrong. He knew it was going to be dangerous, but Henry was willing to face any and all danger if it meant bringing his father home to them. He looked back down at the bauble in his hand, palming it while his face scrunched in thought.
Blinking, Henry looked back at Elizabeth as she asked him to tell her of the trident. The fire burned in his eyes once more and he took a breath, situating himself on her lap to sit up a little bit more. ❝ It’s the trident of Poseidon, ❞ he explained in a rushed, excited voice of a boy who’d found the answer he’d been searching for so long. Putting his palms out, Henry climbed off his mother’s lap and ran - without warning - for his room. It was there he began to feverishly grab up bits of parchment he’d torn from books speaking to the trident, and some books as well he hadn’t yet defaced. With his little arms full he scrambled back to her side, setting them down with a heap at her feet and, one hand still holding his father’s necklace ( he’d thus far refused to put it down ), the other held information about the trident. Henry climbed back into Elizabeth’s lap and thrust the paper toward her with his eyes alight with excitement. His little chest rose and fell.
❝ It has the power to break any curse in the sea. ❞ He said. ❝ It will break father’s curse! I only need to find it. ❞
My curse will never be broken. This is my fate. ( x. )

she pulled back enough to look him in the eye, alarm registering in her features as her fingers curled protectively around his shoulders. it was almost as though she feared the idea of releasing him, as though she thought that by doing so, she’d lose him. he’d gone to see his father. how close had she come, then, to losing him that night? there was only one way to effectively find the dutchman, after all; the thought was horrifying enough to send a shiver down elizabeth’s spine.
but the boy’s sorrow, both in his voice and his expression, distracted her from fears of what might have been. elizabeth had no way of knowing what had transpired during henry’s meeting with his father, but she could see that their son was hurting. and knowing will, knowing his desire to protect all those he loved, she could only imagine the cause of henry’s pain.
❛ henry… sweetheart, you know that isn’t true, ❜ she responded softly, a hand reaching up to touch his cheek and wipe away a few of his tears. ❛ your father loves you. very much. ❜ elizabeth let out a quiet sigh, tilting her head. ❛ i’m not sure what your father might have said, but did it never occur to you that perhaps he was merely scared at your being there? ❜ again, that fear rose ferociously within her, and she fought the urge to pull him into her arms again.
❛ and i certainly can’t blame him. what if he hadn’t been there, henry? you might have died and i would be none the wiser. how could you be so reckless? ❜
Lips pressed together, Henry sniffled and finally had the decency to look ashamed as well as miserable when his mother chided him for his foolish behavior. He swallowed, but knew he had absolutely no ground to argue on. She hadn’t seen the rope burn around his ankle or known he’d risked potentially drowning in order to land upon the deck of the Flying Dutchman. ❝ I had the map. ❞ He said weakly, as if that would make the world of difference. ❝ I found the map, I knew where he was going to be. ❞ Of course he didn’t actually. What if his father had been preoccupied with something else - the ferrying of souls, perhaps? There had been no actual certainty William was going to be there to save his son and yet, Henry had clung to the belief he was.
❝ Mum, he - ❞ another little lip tremble ❝ - he said to let him go. ❞
Henry pulled his hand back and opened his fist, showing her the necklace he held. His eyes filled again with tears and he sniffled, lifting those eyes to her face. He pleaded with her to trust in him in the way William hadn’t. ❝ There’s a trident and it can break his curse! ❞ Hope was a feverish tone in his little voice as it wavered and begged her to understand him. Surely he wasn’t the only one who could believe he could free his father from his fate, right? Henry’s brows dipped inward again and he swallowed, looking down at the necklace. ❝ Why doesn’t he want me to help him? I can do it... ❞ His voice got smaller. ❝ - I can save him... I could bring him home... doesn’t he want to be home with us? ❞
MUM
it wasn’t unusual for elizabeth to be up at all hours of the night; it was the sort of restlessness that came with surviving a war ( one that was not yet finished ) and losing loved ones. a restlessness filled with nightmares and ghosts of the past. during these moments, she would often find herself gravitating towards the door opposite her own, peeking in to check on the one thing reminding her that it hadn’t been all loss, the one thing giving her hope these days. on occasion, she would merely stand in the doorway, watching the gentle rise and fall of her son’s breathing; sometimes that would be enough to calm her spirit and allow sleep.
perhaps that was why it was particularly jarring to open the door that night and find an empty bed. had henry been known to sneak out, his mother might have thought nothing of it — but he was a well-behaved boy, one that respected her enough not to disappear without a word. or so she’d thought.
panic spread like wildfire through her. elizabeth swept through the home, calling his name desperately, checking each and every room. he was nowhere to be found. immediately her mind began racing, jumping to the worst possible conclusion. she, being the pirate king, naturally had enemies… what if one of them had taken henry in the dead of night? what if she never saw him again?
with a great deal of determination, elizabeth shook the thought from her mind. grabbing her effects quickly from the hook upon which they hung, she opened the front door, only to find herself suddenly face to face with the very boy she’d been prepared to search high and low for.
❛ henry, ❜ she breathed, heart singing with relief. she dropped everything to the floor and enveloped him in a tight hug, either unaware or uncaring of the fact that he was sopping wet. ❛ don’t you dare disappear like that again, ❜ she scolded, a hand resting on the back of his head as she kissed his cheek fiercely. ❛ what on earth were you thinking? ❜
Henry.
His mother’s voice shortly followed by a hug which pulled him in firmly shocked Henry away from the moment he’d had aboard the Flying Dutchman. Henry blinked, his fist still curled tight around the baubles tied into a necklace his father had given to him. Only for a moment had he stiffened, but he ultimately lifted his arms around her and clung tighter, tighter than he’d held to her in a long, long time. The tears started anew, swirling up hot in his eyes and he closed his eyelids and didn’t attempt to will them away.
❝ I went to go see father. ❞ He admitted in a small, miserable voice. His fingers curled painfully tighter around the baubles, the string of the necklace hanging from his fist. He only had the decency to look ashamed for a moment, knowing when his mother learned how he’d discovered how to find his father, she would be horrified. The pain in his heart of his father telling him to move on, to forget him, to know he was cursed forever, was currently too great to worry over anything else.
Little Henry wanted nothing more than to curl back into the loving arms of his mother and try to numb away the hurt he’d felt at being pushed away by his father.
❝ I won’t go anymore. ❞ He said, lip trembling. His eyebrows pinched inward as he lifted his chin, trying to feel anger through heartbreak but failing utterly. Henry had always been a boy who loved more than he hated. ❝ My father doesn’t ever want to see me again. ❞
@hangtherules because let’s just hurt ourselves a bit why not
Saltwater intermingled with warm, freshly fallen tears on his cheeks, as Henry reached to rub away at them with the back of his hand, some of the ocean slipped into his eyes, causing them to sting. Sniffling, he trudged on, seemingly too heartbroken to bother any further with them and instead allowed the tears to fall uninterrupted. Henry limped up the beach he’d pulled the dinghy up on, favoring one ankle over the other ( which sported a rope burn around it ). Swollen whole by his grief — “Henry, the trident can never be found.” “I found you.” — the boy seemed completely caught in his head.
Why would his father shun him away when, after all these years, Henry had finally found the article of the sea which would break his father’s curse and bring him home? There were so many who would venture to say the Flying Dutchman could not be found, but Henry had found it, so who was to say the same was not for the trident?
But the young boy, dejected, pushed away by the father he wanted so badly and too much a child to understand why William kept a separation between his son and the Dutchman, could only feel heartbreak in this moment. Could only feel rejection. It was how, still sniffling, still trudging slowly with his head hung, the little boy came to the steps of the house he shared with his mother, unaware she’d awoken and found him to be missing.
Get home to your mother. No! Leave now. Before it's too late. I won't. I'll never stop. And if you throw me over, I'll come straight back.
cuddles son
Henry smiled as the familiar strong, gentle arms of his mother curled around him. Though he was a growing boy and of the age where feistier boys might push away their mother’s affection, Henry reveled in the love she gave. Unlike other children, Henry had not been taught to balk at expressions of love. The smile held to his young face as he tilted his head back and looked up toward her.
❝ I love you, mum. ❞ He said without childish embarrassment, but only the honesty which reflected in his deep, rich brown eyes.
when a pirate’s MAROONED, he’s given a pistol with a single shot. ONE SHOT. well, that won’t do much good hunting, nor to be rescued. but after three weeks of a STARVIN’ BELLY and THIRST, that pistol starts to look real friendly. but jack, he escaped the island, and he still has that one shot. oh, but he won’t use it though, save for ONE MAN. his mutinous first mate. barbossa.
THE LAW
In all honesty, James knew who the young man was from the moment he’d been dragged into his office, fighting the marines with each step. The defiant set of his jaw, the fire in the depths of his brown eyes, everything was so familiar about this boy. He was Elizabeth’s son, and for all the similarities the boy shared with his father, James didn’t begrudge Elizabeth for her choice. She had chosen the option best for her, down a path James could never hope to follow.
“Henry James Turner.” The name fell from the Governor’s lips with an ironic smile tugging at the corners of his lips as he straightened from his seated position and walked around to the front of his desk. James clasped his hands behind his back lest his emotions get the best of him and he leap forward to embrace the young man who he had never thought he’d get a chance to meet. He held Henry’s eye for a moment, before nodding to a chair sat before his desk. The marines maneuvered their chained prisoner into the finely-made seat, one daring to raise a protest when the Governor dismissed them– a protest that Norrington quickly silenced. With apologetic bows, the marines retired from the Governor’s office, leaving the unlikely pair alone.
James wore no sword belt, decidedly foolish of him, given the pure, untempered anger blazing from his young guest’s eyes. He was counting on the oddity of being left unescorted in the presence of such an important figure in Port Royal would be enough shock to hold Henry in his seat for a little while longer. James tore his gaze away so that he might pace around behind Henry’s chair. “That’s quite the pedigree you boast, Mr. Turner. Many would call you a liar for even claiming the Flying Dutchman exists.” Long strides carried James back into view of the pirate, melancholy memories etched into his face at the remembrance of his own time aboard that ship, faced with her former Captain.
Norrington shook his darker thoughts away, eyes turning to the intricate woodwork the Governor’s office boasted. “Are you aware that the King of the Brethren Court began her story in this very town? In this very house, actually.” James’s eyes slid from the architecture back to Henry’s, “Your story is not as unknown to me as you might think.”
He was being left alone with the commanding officer. Henry’s eyes widened slightly, for he wasn’t entirely hardened enough to maintain absolute composure as his older, more experienced brethren were. While this was his first time being held in chains, Henry knew it was quite unlikely a man as important in the Royal Navy as the decorated man before him would ask a pirate fugitive be left behind, alone in his company. What punishment did he intend to inflict which would be so terrible, so blasphemous, that he wanted to carry it out alone?
Henry’s eyes darted around the room and to his shackled hands, trying to find what was in his nearest reach to utilize as a weapon should it come to it. But, in doing so, his eyes moved to the ( now moving ) lawman and he immediately took note of a lack of weaponry. As soon as his face could not be seen, Henry allowed his attempt at schooling his features into a hardened look to be replaced by a frown as he tried to guess what the man’s intentions were.
“It does exist!” He proclaimed boldly, twisting in his seat to glower at the man. “I’ve been on it’s deck!” But it was the same tale of men refusing to believe Henry, the same thing that had followed him from when he was a boy. Henry had been bullied on the streets of Shipwreck Cove by children who’d trip him and gather up the papers that would fall from his jacket, papers he’d been reading about all the curses of the sea. “I am NOT a liar.” He said firmly, glowering up at the man.
But rather than grow irritated at his obvious lack of respect for the man, his tone changed as he brought up something Henry didn’t know about his pirate heritage. He blinked, settling back in the chair to look around them. “I... didn’t...” He admitted, glancing around, trying to envision a time where fellow pirates had gathered here to create the court his mother was now King of, but his thoughts were interrupted as he looked instead toward the Admiral.
“Who are you?” He asked, frowning, staring at the figure and still not entirely putting down his guard.
I’m still fiddling with it ( need to update icons and whatnot ) but I’ve made Henry a new layout I actually kind of like??? This is a new feeling for me lmfao
Also, I edited his ‘about’ page to include MY version of dmtnt ( aka erasing the whole navy bit ) and added in a dmtnt verse.
I’m going to put the newly edited things beneath the cut, but just a forewarning, don’t read them if you’re trying to avoid dmtnt spoilers.
