Miss Clue games really disappeared as quickly as they came :(
I'm watching Gab Smolders recent playthrough of Tomb of the Lost Queen and after all these years I still can't get over how beautiful the game looks.
Nancy Drew fans for 2 decades: “can we please have a character in a wheelchair?”
HeR: “extremely shallow and minimal mention of trending social topics which we’ll never mention again? Sure!”
This guy is the reason all Nancy Drew fan instinctively hate Dennis from It’s Always Sunny

One thing that kinda annoys me is how George Fayne is interpreted in modern adaptions. Her character points have different implications then they did in 1930 and that totally changes her character.
The original George was a flapper. She had her hair “cut as short as fashions would allow” which means a short Louise Brook style bob, she had a boys name which was typical of the flapper type of women (a good example is the book Peril at End House from 1932 in which the two girls go by the names Nick and Freddie and Poirot briefly discusses the fad of girls having boy nicknames), and she was very active/played sports which was the opposite of the previouses generations “feminine” activities which were based on sitting quietly and doing delicate handicrafts, with one book even mentioning her utter detest of knitting.
But now a days short hair, a boys name, and playing sports makes her a tomboy who hates girly things and might be a lesbian/trans based on stereotypes.
This is annoying because it is lazy writing! It removes any depth from the characters. The original George had the mindset and personality of the ultra modern woman of the 1920s/1930s, a time when women were deciding that they wanted an equal chance in life and were completely flipping expectations of women upside down. She was a symbol of the modern woman who wanted to be out enjoying the world and not sit demurely at home waiting to have a family to dedicate her life to.
And then opposite of this was Bess who was timid and gentle and often shocked by her more brash cousin. She enjoyed being A Lady and was eager to find a proper suitor (Nancy of course, was the perfectly balanced combination of the two but were not talking about Nancy rn).
The differences were reflective of their time, the changing standards of the world, and actually had depth to them unlike the basic, shallow trope of Bess likes pink cause she’s girly and George likes sports cause she’s not girly. It’s just so lazy and actually very sad once you’ve read the original books and seen the more realistic, more fleshed out characters of Bess and George.
Everyone trying to argue that George is queer representation is completely missing the point. Stop and think why do you see George as queer representation: because she has short hair? Because she likes sports? Because she defies gender roles? Those are all stereotypes used against women for ages. Even today women can not cut their hair short without being questioned as a lesbian. You’re literally perpetuating sexist and homophobic stereotypes.
These same people never question Bess’ sexuality because she’s girly and loves men yet looking back through books, movies, and games Bess is shown as open minded and loving towards all people. Yet no one sees Bess’ love of romance and acceptance of all different kinds of people as sign she might be bisexual or demisexual.
Honestly seeing people argue about this is gross. Really think about it before causing more damage to the lgbt community.
"Alice is as pretty as a picture," George supplied. "Not homely like me."
"Why you're not a bit homely," Nancy assured her promptly. "I think you're quite distinguished looking myself."
"You base flatterer! Look at this straight hair and my pug nose! And everyone says I'm irresponsible and terribly boyish."
"Well, you sort of pride yourself on being boyish, don't you? Your personality fits in with your name, you will admit."
"I do like my name," George admitted, "but I get tired of explaining to folks that it isn't short for Georgia. Bess doesn't have half the trouble I do."
As she spoke, George glanced up at her cousin as if trying to discover the secret of her dignity and composure. Elizabeth was noted for always doing the correct thing at the correct time. Though she lacked the dash and vivacity of her cousin, she was better looking and dressed with more care and taste. Yet, had a stranger entered the room, he undoubtedly would have looked first at Nancy Drew, for though she could not be termed beautiful, her face was more interesting than that of either of her companions.
