“I’ll be happy to keep you company as long as you promise not to get so drunk I have to babysit you all night.” Lila commented with a smile, she hated the idea of being at the party alone all night but she didn’t want to babysit someone all night.

There was something…prickly that got under Archer’s skin when it came to large parties. The loud music, sweating, grinding bodies bumping into him from the left and the right. They were usually horribly cliche, much like this one with their flashing lights and upbeat pop music–Nonetheless a theme. Which is how he ended up in a sleek, completely black suit. The only color on his wardrobe being the red, slick devil horns sitting upon his head. Sinners and Saints: The thought made Archer snort into his beer, drinking the contents of the red solo cup lazily as a small blonde chatted up his ear. He wasn’t paying much attention to her words, having zoned out several times throughout the duration of their “conversation”. He needed to get out of this hell-hole and into some fresh air. Tipping the rest of his beer back, Archer swallowed it easily before crushing the cup in his hand and placing it into the blonde woman’s hands. Her words stopped abruptly at the action, surprised gaze landing on Archer’s face. He took the moment to excuse himself. 

The cigarette smoke that hit his lungs was almost godsend, and he leaned against the wall lazily as he flicked the ash, watching it float to the ground. Footsteps approaching was the only thing that grabbed his attention from the falling soot, all but forcing Archer to lift his head and his gaze. How did people always catch him looking like a jackass? The devil horns on top of his head made Archer feel like an idiot, but he wasn’t nothing but loyal to his Fraternity. “Seems like I’m not the only one needing a break.” He mused, perking an eyebrow as he exhaled more cigarette smoke into the cool air–Watching it cloud thickly before disappearing all together. Archer tilted his head towards them sarcastically, saluting with his free hand. “Happy New Years.”

Lila had spent more time then she wanted to admit thinking about what the party was saying morally. The girl had grown up in a lapsed Catholic home, and she went to Catholic school so the theme gave her quite a bit to process. Then again she always wondered if saints were also sinners, and if sinners had any saintly characteristics to them. She would remind herself that it was only a theme, and she would ponder the philosophical meaning of it all tomorrow. She smiled as she excused herself from another pointless conversation about who looked like they got their dress at good will to step outside.

Her heels lightly tapped against the sidewalk as she approached where the boy was standing. She dug around in her person in hopes that she wouldn’t look like a dweeb. “I think I would have lost my mind if I spent another five seconds in there.” she commented as she watched the smoke fill the air around the male, her white lace dress was a clear difference from the red horns that set upon the others head. “To you as well.”

“No, i refuse to believe it’s 2017 because I haven’t started it off well.”

“I feel like someone who is super up beat and positive would tell you ‘that means it can only get better from here’, so maybe you could focus on that?”

“Honestly this is some sort of ploy from the student council, I bet all the Greek houses have caused so much trouble and drama that they brought us out here to freeze us to death. I’m going to get frostbite out here, this can’t be legal.”

“That sounds a bit extreme. Seeing that a large chunk of student council is also a part of Greek life, I highly doubt that has anything to do with it all. Plus, I don’t know if a legal case against student council would hold up in court since you were the one who willingly decided to come to the party.”

“happy new year!” she cheered along with some of the girls she was standing with laughing with and hugging people around her before she was pulled back, “oh happy new year to you too.” she smiled brightly before kissing them on the cheek with no thought.’

“Oh wow, you are friendly.” Lila commented as she felt the other girl kiss her cheek. She looked at the commotion going on around her of everyone ringing in the New Year before looking back at the other girl. “You’re super exciting for the New Year, aren’t you?”

“It would be pretty cool being a cat. you could eat and sleep all day, jump super far and people would pet you all the time”

“Not to mention all the negatives of being a cat; you’d have to go to the vet, you’d have to use a litter box, a large portion of the population would be allergic to you. Should I continue?”

“Til you find me a good Cajun joint ‘round here, s’ what m’ gunnin’ for, sides it ain’t like m’ forcin’ you to eat is s’it?”

“This city is filled with Cajun restaurants, and while I don’t know much about Cajun food, there has to be at least to be one decent place for you to get Cajun food.. You’re not wrong.”

“Seriously – don’t be.” Anita didn’t like when people felt sorry for her, or felt sorry that she had to go through certain things. In her mind, whatever she had dot go through, it only made her stronger and shaped her for her future. “I hope so,” she said with a chuckle and shook her head at Lila’s question. “No. I don’t do that whole thing. I think it’s a waste and nobody really sticks to it anyway. Do you?”

Lila nodded unsure if she should say anything else on the matter. She didn’t want to say anything else that could ruin what she viewed as a pleasant conversation. “I agree completely. It’s like if you truly cared about quitting whatever you’re going to quit you wouldn’t have put it off until the New Year. Also I’m not quite so sure people change, I think you are who you are, and at the end of the day you either have to learn how to love yourself, or learn how to fake it.”

Thalia kept looking at the drinks that were on the wall as she listened to the girl and tried to figure out what drink would help calm her nerves, even if it was just a bunch of mixed things. She gave a soft smile while hearing the girl and turned her head while looking at the other. “I’m ready to forget about this night and get completely wasted,” she said with a laugh. “It’s like there’s excitement for a minute, people kiss and that’s it. I never understood why this was made into such a big deal,” Thalia said while shrugging her shoulders. “What about you?”

“How tonight already been so bad you want to drink it away?” She asked before taking a sip from the wine glass in front of her. Lila nodded as she listened to the other talk about her theory on the New Year. “I couldn’t agree more. Honestly, it’s just another year, and who knows this year could be even worse then the year before. I honestly think New Years eve was used as another excuse to get totally wasted without having to own up to any responsibility because ‘it’s New Years Eve, and everyone one else was getting wasted and hooking up with strangers too’.” she paused when she realized she was rambling. “But free booze yay.”

“But…” She began slowly, tentatively, as if she was cautious with correcting the girl, “I’m not talking about how to ring in the new year - I mean, we can, if that’s what you want. I’m talking about one thing you want to do - anything. Before the clock strikes midnight and 2017 begins.  What would you want to do?” She asked, before licking her lips and offering the girl a small shrug of her shoulders, “I have a lot of things in mind - it’s endless really. But I’d like to hear yours. Think it says a lot about a person.”

“Honestly.” Lila paused as she thought about the best way to tell the girl her opinion on the matter without sounding like an idiot..Then again when has that ever stopped her before. “I don’t see the point of doing something crazy before the clock strikes midnight, if I truly wanted to do something I have 365 days to do it in 2017..Plus if it’s something I shouldn’t be doing I won’t be leaving it 2016, it will follow me into 2017, and could possibly ruin my chances of doing anything successful with my life.” she took a sip of her drink before looking at the other girl. “I’m curious though, what’s on your list?”

“Thanks. I know I am. Shit, who wouldn’t want to makeout with this face? I’m beautiful . Wonderful fuckin’ kisser.”

“I can think of several reasons; for one maybe she has no desire to makeout with anyone tonight, perhaps she only came with the intention of hanging out with her friends. But since you’re such a wonderful kisser why don’t you just take all your confidence over there and talk to her about your desire to make out with her.”

Felicity clicked her heels together, shrugging, “It’s definitely more comfortable the heels and I’m not the greatest at walking in them so like.” Laughing, she grinned, “Thankyou!”

Lila nodded in agreement with what she was saying about heels. Heels defiantly weren’t comfortable, but she did like the height they brought the brunette. “Are you enjoying yourself so far?”

Lila nodded as she listened to the blonde. “Honestly, my least favorite part of these parties is the pointless small talk.. I could care less about who’s wearing the same outfit, and who’s hooking up with who’s ex.. Some of the people have all this knowledge and their choosing to waste it on talking about other people instead of doing something productive.” she paused as she let out a chuckle. “Allow me to get off my high horse, and again your apology is accepted.”

Jude.” She hummed.

“I’ll have to remember to bring you a hangover milkshake tomorrow.” Lila tried not to laugh as she felt her friend take her hand into hers causing the two of them two dance. “Well, you know what I always say fake it until you make it.” she reminded her with a playful eye roll. “I’m glad he’s nice, and hot.. I’m happy for you Ellie, and when you sober up I want to hear all about your night with him.”
