Judith Burton had been an agent her entire life. She was in training at 15 after being adopted and put on missions by 17. She had rules she had to follow. No long term relationships, no friends. Only her work. The rules were ones she happily followed. Her childhood was filled with abandonment and loneliness, so these rules protected her from having to face those traumas ever again. She thought she had a handle on it until she reached 44.
She was partnered on a mission which always slowed her down. She knew better than to challenge the Director, but figured she was being babysat after improvising the past two missions.
She was drinking in a club near the mark in Madrid, dressed in inconspicuous clothing that was stylish enough to blend into a club environment, but not anything that would make herself the center of attention. She chose carefully, donning a black leather pants and a matching tube top to try and discourage any men from showing interest. Unfortunately, she already had to reject three of them. One of the men didn’t want to take no as an answer. She almost wanted to leave and wait for him to follow, jumping him once they were alone. She couldn’t do that yet. She was waiting for the other agent and couldn’t blow her cover.
“Women like you are so fun,” the man slurred, his form that would be imposing for any regular woman swaying over into her personal space, “Always playing hard to get.”
He stupidly put his hand on her hip and out of instinct, she gripped and twisted it, earning a sharp inhale and the beginning of a “You bitch…”
Before she could break every bone in his hand, she felt a feminine hand rest on the spot where he had been grabbing just a moment before. A beautiful younger woman, no older than 30-something, was wrapped in a black leather dress that went well with her own outfit. She flipped her black hair.
“Hello there. Why don’t you leave my wife alone?” she said, pulling the tiniest micro expression of surprise on Judith’s face.
