Always found this specific part a little funny because of how vague they are purposefully(?) being. if two law enforcement officials showed up and said they wanted to talk about your son (that they don’t mention is their coworker yet) I think the reasonable conclusions to jump to would be either:

- said son is involved in a crime

- said son is dead

Derek phrasing it like that feels in part like fucking with William but also it gives him an immediate reaction to gauge what kind of guy they are dealing with/what kind of relationship they have (by hinting at either tragedy or wrongdoing on Spencer’s side… does he defend him? does he distance himself from him?) … I wish Spencer didn’t appear at this exact moment just to see it play out to the end

yeah i think it'll be Rossi if it had to be a member of the team, but more likely than anything it'll be love interest? especially a woman. they sure love to go that route on this series.

Idk about the love interest angle because I genuinely don’t think they will dare kill Rebecca and she’s the only one left (idk actually. I didn’t watch the new season).

So maybe Rossi… but same as for Gideon I can only see them doing that if they know for a fact that the actor doesn’t want to be back anymore. Which we don’t know at this point

theyll definitely kill off SOMEONE but Reid is sort of their bread and butter even without him there. ik there are people who keep watching the new series in hopes Reid will eventually come back. maybe Elle?? when was the last time they talked about her? they'd just bring her up just to do something shitty like that. :(

True, I’ve been thinking too that they’re not gonna be too eager to let go of the ability to be like “heey he is possibly there” with all the ‘as far as I’m concerned his desk stays there’ interview and all.

I think the main condition for that to happen would be if mgg ever confirms that he isn’t coming back, which we don’t know at this point.

So don’t take my word for it but I believe there is an Emily crying scene next season, which makes me think that it can’t be Elle since they never met. I don’t think Derek should be touched at all because it would be a crime to undo the way his story wrapped up. Hotch is up for grabs too then I think haha

i think the chances are high Spencer dies offscreen next season because

- cme seems to rely a lot on “kill someone close to current main character” as a clutch to create drama and pull emotions from the audience every season and we are running out of someone close to current main characters

- they also seem to like recycling plotlines (unsub memory loss like in tabula rasa, garcia pleading against someone getting death penalty,..) so why not recycle the good old Gideon once again

+ 20th season is kind of something you, I think, would want to mark perhaps with more than ‘character that we introduced 2 seconds ago but pinky promise was close to this main character, died’

Girl, I am bored, let's think about how Spencer being "weird" and extremely smart gave way to the adults in his life to neglect him even before dad left the picture (4-year-old boy playing chess in a random park alone for hours, with a literal predator)

Post William leaving we know he canonly went above and beyond to come across as “not a problem child”, doing extra work at school, trying to appear as self sufficient possible (and by necessity) to make sure no other adult feels the need to step in and see his real situation.

Before William leaving is a little nebulous to me because Diana was definitely on high alert about Gary Michaels, also weren’t she and William fighting about it? But he probably didn’t believe her if she had to approach the other parent ..

My headcanon really is that since William wanted Spencer to be more “normal”, he might have been the one to push him to be there like “go! Just go in the park and socialise with people! That’s what kids should be doing!”

I was thinking about Garcia and Luke being poly and bringing Reid in as their third. They are established for a while and Reid has always had a crush on them and thought it wouldn't be reciprocated. He goes off post OG series and when he finally returns his feelings are still there. He tries to keep some distance in hopes he can keep it hidden and just be happy enough being close to them again. But they finally realize they feel the same.

After everyone else leaves a celebratory post case gathering at Garcia and Luke's shared apartment, Reid stays behind to clean up. He washes his hands and mumbles about it being late and he should probably get home, but they ask him to stay.

Then, before he knows it, Reid is finally kissing Luke. He puts all his pent up feelings into the kiss and is practically melting when Luke pulls away to start kissing Reid's neck, then suckle at the hinge of his jaw. Unbuttoning Reid's shirt and slipping it down halfway past his shoulders . Luke shares a look with Garcia over Reid's bare shoulder. She steps forward, kissing along his mid back up his spine trailing up the back of his neck (causing him to shiver) She slips her hand around and down Reid's front, where Luke's hand also ends up. They chuckle for a moment realizing they had the same goal. Then quickly decide they both want to get their hands, and mouths, on him after hearing Reid's breathless Please :)

i find it odd when reid was at his peak "so pleased to be around everyone" was also the season when they forget his birthday (and a year after everything to do with emily's "death"). they def made up for it to him for his forgotten bday with that cute little party but i wonder if that sort of led him to start building a little wall around his heart again? and then maeve after THAT. i mean babe never could catch a break.

Hmmm good question I had to give it a little thought. The sad thing about it is that it was something of a milestone. “I thought I dodged a bullet when I turned 30 and didn't have a schizophrenic break like her” like this is the one birthday I genuinely believe he was looking forward to celebrate and felt a little vulnerable about

And yet I don’t think this specific event made him build a wall around himself, not in the same way Emily’s death did, which we see the fallout in S8 when after Maeve’s death he isolates himself and does not reach out.

I think he probably filed this one away as “things that made me sad but it’s something that happened before and I looked past it before” (with his mom probably) + “there was no ill intent and at least they’re all here” you know? At least that’s what I got from his demeanour.

I was watching some season 7 episodes and I forgot how smiley Reid uses to be :( like You know when they do the whole "Team binding thing and the camera just zooms at them as the musical plays off" after a case and Spencer just looked so happy to be there, contrary to how much more reserved and ashamed to take any space he looked in earlier seasons or how much more reserved and stiff he seemed in later.

Yeah! Looking back I think S7 is a little sweet spot where he was there long enough to feel good and confident among the BAU, in the fact that they want him around, no longer carrying this fear that he’s gonna be ejected at the slightest mistake and finally allowing himself to soak in the joy and sense of belonging. This team configuration staying the same long enough feeding this sense of stability too.

After that it’s one thing after another with an increasing intensity that brings him back into a defensive state of mind again, though I think he really does try and makes a concerted effort to be affectionate to people in these later seasons.
