Final Deadlines

From Jason: "All: So to confirm. Our Final Exam meeting time is scheduled for Thursday, May 1 at 12:00. We'll meet up then and plan to go no later than 2 (if that late). Here’s the details about finishing UP: DUE MONDAY: Final versions of Korsakow Projects and the “Accounting of Things” for that project. I will be on campus Monday. Have a member of your group schedule to meet-up with me to transfer files. If a member of your group is not able to meet up and submit your Korsakow materials on Monday, then plan to have your final version done by Friday, so we can get files transferred in class. You have a couple of options for submitting your “accounting of things”: 1. Add it as a page to the main English 149 Scalar site. 2. Use Wordpress, or other blogging platform, to integrate your “accounting of things” with your Korsakow project. Final versions of “Inquiry Projects” and the “Accounting of Things” for that project. To submit these, create a new page on the main Scalar site that links us to your project and the accounting of things. Link that page to your personal page on the scalar site. DUE THURSDAY, May 1 A cleaned up personal path on the main 149 Scalar. Items on path should include: 1. 30 second videos and any related materials (accounting of things, any alternate drafts, if available) 2. Your “linear” sketch film. This was originally uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo. 3. Your “nonlinear” sketch film (if available). Remember, we used the nonlinear sketch film to get our hand dirty with Korsakow and ultimately I didn’t require that you publish to the web. That said, if you have your “nonlinear” draft materials still available, I’ll get those files from you on Friday and we can publish them. 4. Links to your group’s Korsakow project drafts, including the final and to your final “accounting of things” for that project. 5. Link to your Inquiry Project (Re)Composition, related materials and the “Accounting of Things” for that project. Remember, to submit the accounting of things for your Inquiry project just publis it as a new page on Scalar and link it up to the page where you embed, link or otherwise publish your (Re)composition. 6. Link to relevant materials in your Social Media Experiment and the accompanying “Accounting of Things” for that project. If you’ve experimented with iBooks, or another form not traditionally publish to the web, we’ll discuss on Friday how you will both submit this project to me and add it to your Path."

Repetition in our K-Film

For the final version of our Korsakow film, Jason has suggested to us to use our archival picture files for multiple SNUs. This will encourage users to click on the picture after seeing it on-screen multiple times. We aren't able to have a unique archival picture for each SNU, but we will assign a picture for the preview of each SNU. We are also considering using some SNUs to preview pictures rather than our traditional method. We'll see how this goes!

Everything is Improving on K-Films!

On monday, we watched a few groups’ new k-film versions. I was very impressed how everyone’s videos had evolved. Text, background images, and filters have really made a difference in these projects. The Nature group’s use of filters was really cool. I was especially intrigued by the SNU about driving down the road. The colors changed in the sky and for the lines in the middle of the road. It really drew in the user’s eye and was engaging. The Spring Break group’s background photo was my favorite. Adding the scene of spring breakers covering the beach really set the scene for the k-film. I enjoyed the text that the Carolina group used to explain where SNUs had been filmed. It gave context to the SNUs and the overall k-film.

Customizing: text, voice-overs, interface

Using Archives from library: Juxtaposing old images with new ones

For the next draft: keep it small. Import 15 SNUs that are representative of the entire project

Think about looping, background images, background color

Make an entirely new version for this next draft. It'll be better to start from scratch to avoid messing up things that we like from the initial draft

As We Korsakow.....

We want to incorporate new techniques into our videos.

Slim down the process of key-wording. 

Change the world. One Korsakow movie at a time.

Use better cameras to get better footage/images.

Take more pictures.

Get personal interviews.

Convince people of the truth of the Carolina experience.

We want to be the best group ever. Really though.

We want to make people laugh. And smile. And cry. All in 30 seconds.

We want to capture the personality of campus.

Save people who may have chosen otherwise to go to State or Dook. Or anywhere else for that matter.

We want to be able to use Korsakow without feeling put out and frustrated [without crying]. 

We want to be Korsakow-famous [World Famous because people from all over the world use Korsakow, right?!]

We want to make our professor proud.

We want honor in our families for eternity.

"I wanna make my fans happy." [not for free] [sounds like a Bieber quote]

We want to put it on youtube and see it go viral. --> shut down the internet

We wanna sell ad space on YouTube.

Korsakow Evaluation

Using Korsakow has been an interesting experience for me. I dislike the interface because it is not especially appealing nor navigable. From watching Korsakow videos, it is apparent that there is a lot you can do with Korsakow; I just do not feel especially prepared to utilize all of the its features. I need to read up on this application more thoroughly and figure out how to maximize my Korsakow experience. The in/out word feature gives video stories a lot of potential. This feature gives perspective for stories because it allows them to be told in a multiple different orders. I look forward to seeing what all I can do with Korsakow.
