it’s quiet uptown - hamilton (2015) // epiphany - taylor swift (2020)
Taylor Swift on the Folklore instagram filter (23/07/2020).
I really don’t see this as an era. This is a moment in time. Folklore is so far removed from everything she’s ever done in the best way. I don’t see there being singles, I don’t see her touring it. It was her writing because she loves to write. It’s her telling stories because she’s a storyteller, and she wanted to do it in a new, imaginative way. She shared these stories with us not for sales or charting or awards, but because, as she said, when you write, you can change your words into your legacy, and that’s really what folklore is. Stories passed down from generation to generation to form a legacy.

i can't believe i lived to hear a concept album made by taylor swift
“He’s a songwriter, and actually because of social distancing, I’ve never met him. He actually wrote the original idea for ‘Exile,’ and then Taylor took it and ran with it. I don’t actually know to be totally honest. [...] Yeah, I don’t fully know him, other than he wrote ‘Betty’ and ‘Exile’ with her. But you know she’s a very collaborative person, so it was probably some songwriter. No, no, no [its not an alias]. I mean, I don’t know — she didn’t tell me there was a ‘Cardigan’ video until literally it came out, and I wrote the song with her [laughs]. So I don’t know. But I’m pretty sure he’s an actual songwriter. She enjoys little mysteries.”
— Aaron Dessner on the mystery of William Bowery (x)
reblog this with something you think a sessioner would have said about folklore before the rest of us heard it
“When I was eating my cookie that Taylor made (which was super delicious btw best cookie I’ve ever had in my life) I choked on it during this song because Taylor said the f word😳😳😳😳 and Taylor looked at me and we both laughed really hard. It was so funny, you really had to be there😃”
how am i supposed to pick a lyric from folklore as a caption when the whole fucking album is a lyrical masterpiece
I’m literally not smart enough for this album I just can’t comprehend everything and my mind feels like it just ran a marathon
alright i have a theory about the album cover. buckle up let’s go
so all of her previous album covers have been close ups of her and focused on her, and all the songs on the albums have been stories about her life, hence the focus on the close up of her
this album, she’s further away and it’s not a close up of her, it’s more focused on her surroundings, and she says these songs are stories not necessarily about her life, but about things she has observed around her, hence the focus on her surroundings more than on her
aaaand tweet of the year goes to:
idk but i’m kinda getting the vibe that this album is much more about her expressing her creative poetry and songwriting rather than a new album to top the charts. like she didn’t do any buildup promotion and it’s less about sales and success and more about her releasing what she likes and what she wants. regardless, the album will be a success because it’s taylor swift
folklore gives me so much nostalgia for memories that aren’t even mine
