Second day of the semester and it’s already been so great. I had my first queer literature class this morning and all my students are so hyped about it. Here’s hoping that this keeps up the whole semester and that I’ll be able to offer it again in the winter. I spent so much time reading and curating the books for this class, it would be really sad to see it only last one semester.

Good to know that Sandy Ryerson’s side hustle continues to thrive, but I could’ve done without him rattling off a rather impressive list of edibles in front of my mom, in the middle of a street. That was a fun conversation.

Tonight was one night I was entirely grateful for technology. Took Sophia on our weekly grocery run, all was well and we even got in and out with time to spare. It wasn’t until I was paying when I realized I forgot my wallet. I am so glad that I actually let one of the younger firefighters put Apple Pay on my phone because if we’d had to have left without the Oreos I think the world would have imploded.

I’d say thank Satan it’s Friday, but like, since I’m not stuck on a disgusting and mundane weekly schedule like most folks around here, any day can be a great day for me. Can’t wait to hit up the party, despite its hosts being so uptight, but you can’t blame a girl for enjoying free alcohol.

I told myself when it was first released that I wasn’t going to purchase it. That I wasn’t going to cave to the new and exciting game. Well I guess about a year and a half I think later I finally caved and got it for myself. Why didn’t anyone tell me or warn me how addicting that this stupid Animal Crossing New Horizon’s game is? It’s not fair how much time in consumes from you. I could be working on paperwork and doing the whole lawyer thing like I’m supposed to, but nope I’m stuck playing a stupid game on this stupid switch in my free time. I look at the Cheerios now and wonder if Mads and I were the same way when we were in school, but I guess so because that’s why we were wanted for the squad. Now I know we were completely dedicated, but these lot are at a whole new level. They’re willing to do anything. That is freakin’ amazing. Championship here they come! Totes exciting. So, now that it’s August, I need to start planning my Halloween costume. Last year I was Red from Fraggle Rock so I can’t do another Muppet two years in a row…Maybe Ruby Gloom? Or Euchariah from Halloween is Grinch Night! Ugh, so many options!

So I spent the last 8 months getting permits and taking classes, interviewing and just making sure that everything is ready for this grand opening. So everyone come on out Friday for the Grand Opening of Mercy’s Salon and Spa. 

Now that I got that out of the way, how are you guys doing?

Today is Damien’s second day of school. I managed to get through yesterday just fine, somehow. No crying, nothing. But this morning? Crying. Didn’t want to let him go. He’s growing up far too fast and I hate it. It’s like I blinked and boom, he’s going into kindergarten, and Mel isn’t here to see it. This was not how this was supposed to go.

Well… I survived a week at the Police Academy. I was top of my class in physical, top 3 in academic, and top 2 in marksman, however, a majority of those in my class, and my instructors, were the last kind of people you’d hope to be police, yet the exact ones you would expect. 

I was basically assumed to be ‘one of them’ and they’d make the most intolerant, ignorant, racist, sexist, or homophobic jokes possible. I’d never laugh. I learned that it’s ‘shoot to kill’ in just about any semi-violent situation, which I think is bullshit. It’s not at all what I expected. I don’t want to be part of an institution that pushes all this shit instead of actually making things better. Maybe it’s because of the dinosaurs still teaching at the academy, or maybe it’s simply because we’re in Ohio. 

I’m back. Luckily, they had yet to find my replacement as the football coach at McKinley, so, Coach Clarington is back as well. I’m not going back to the RROTC though.

Yes, you heard it right, Morgan McCarthy has returned from his travels to grace the beautiful town of Lima with his potentially temporary presence for the first time in I want to say around a year? Who knows for sure, but guess what? I am indeed employed this time, and at my alma mater of all places. McKinley, are you ready for your new swimming coach? Anyway, work is boring so moving onto the more important questions. Is there any big goss I’ve missed whilst I was away? Who’s been fucking who? What’s the drama? I need to catch up on that gossip blog, don’t I?

Okay, I know that most people complain about their bosses and how horrible they are, but frankly? My boss is probably the reason why I enjoy working at Rinky Dinks so much. Don’t get me wrong, I love my co-workers - especially my work-wife - but April is just… April. It’s hard to imagine working for anyone but her because she’s just a riot to work for… and to watch.

That said, I could definitely do without her asking me about my date and if he was, and I quote, “able to press your buttons and make you want to reach for a cigarette after”… There are just some lines you just… don’t cross.

So… can we talk about The Suicide Squad please? I need to talk about this movie with someone. I need to gush about Harley, and Margot’s amazing stunts (yes, she does most of her own stunts). I need to talk about King Shark, because he’s hilarious. I need to talk about how James Gunn is one of the best action-comedy directors of our time.

Overheard two guys at The Lima Bean conversing in Spanish. One of them explaining what he would do to me if I went home with him. Needless to say, they both were in shock when I started speaking Spanish right back to them. Español es mi segundo idioma, pendejos. @limafmstarters​
