i absolutely loved 'abigail'. it didn't get enough love in my opinion but the real ones get it. was that your first horror movie? we need more of the horror/comedy types out there. @limelightstevens

It definitely was not my first horror movie! I've developed a bit of a reputation of being the "weird horror dude" in Hollywood, which I obviously wear as a badge of honour. I was even doing some horror stuff pre-Downton Abbey, but I've definitely ramped it up more in the past few years. It's so much fun to do.

you don't look old enough to have a sixteen year old. sorry if that's a weird thing to say but it's true. yeah, i've been telling JJ the same thing and she hits me with a 'but you grew older' and i had to let it go. they get older but they're still gonna be our babies, ya know? that's some really good advice to give so thank you for that. i try to be as in her life as i can be, work aside, so that i can be present and accounted for. what type of things do you do you with your daughter? a year or two ago i brought her to the ZOMBIES premiere and she had a blast, got to meet all the actors and everything. so i think i got a bunch of cool points for that one.

You're definitely not the first person to tell me that, don't worry. I was 27 when she was born, so not exactly super young, so maybe that lends more to my youthful good looks at 43. They'll always be your babies, just best not to treat them like that unless they want you, too. Because sometimes they still want you to. But they're also their own people, and that's scary and cool in equal measure. That sounds very cool! My kids aren't really interested in coming to any of my work events, they'd rather just hang out and do other stuff. We all like travelling, experiencing new things, honestly it's the best way to bond. We went on a ski trip at the beginning of the year, and that was so much fun. I think it boils down to them wanting to feel included, whether that's a work event, a vacation, going furniture shopping, they like having the option to say no to doing stuff, instead of just being told no all the time.

another season of dexter? that sounds like fun, do you know when it will hit our screens? i just wrapped a movie based on the book tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow, got the next project lined up but hoping to see some friends before diving right into it.

Yeah, it's the latest reboot of it, and I hear it's rather good. I went into filming it trying not to watch it, so I can focus on the story in front of me and all that. But I was a big fan of the original, so it's been a lot of fun, especially getting to work in New York again, it's a beautiful city. Not sure on a release date yet, but hopefully it'll be out later this year. Now that does sound exciting! Busy, busy, busy. Does it ever stop?

You've got that right. Back in the day I would just accept anything. I'm still not on a high level but lately, I have been proud of the projects I've taken on. I still think Marvel dropped the ball on that one. Maybe someone should make an anonymous call and make them remember Legion and hand them some ideas. David can always make an appearance. The Multiverse is a real thing now. I feel like such a nerd talking about this now.

There's definitely nothing wrong with saying yes to anything, I did find that some of the jobs I thought I wouldn't enjoy ended up being the most fun and I met some lifelong friends through them. But the freedom of choice is very nice. Especially after having kids, I'd like to feel like my reason for working away from them is worthwhile. That's true, you won't here me objecting to bringing back David, even for a small cameo. Good, being a nerd is great. We're the interesting ones.

Don't tempt me, because you know I will absolutely abuse that privilege just to make you melt into a puddle and know I was the one that put you there. You are very attractive do you know that? Like literally when we were friends that thought still popped right in my head like a little annoying bird. But it was only annoying cause it was overwhelming and all the poems on your eyes and curve of your lips never be enough to actually give justice to what they do in my brain heart and stomach. Can I just say the kids are handling all the transition with so much maturity and your right big part of that is their age. It really speaks to how you've raised them with that kind of emotional intelligence and well the one I have seen first hand hanging out with them. I love your kids though thinks its admittedly easier cause Im not exactly parent but damn do I boldly kind of say Im in that inner circle of trusted adults who they listen too. So funny cause I didnt know if I wanted to date someone with kids at the beginning of this as I was so undecided about my own. But I have loved to get to know each and love each one of them individually. Don't worry, I won't hesitate to take a breather if the volume gets a bit much, but honestly? I think I might really like being in the thick of it. Though I am going to hold you to that date night promise, Willow sounds like an lifesaver in that case too. I am so, incredibly happy for you. You've carried this weight for a long time, and seeing the finish line clear up like this is massive. Though, please, do try to restrain yourself from proposing right there in the clerk's office—at least let me buy you a proper drink first to celebrate your official freedom. A whole townhouse right there? Sounds perfect like a dream more than anything. I am so excited to see it. Those are all some of my favorite things. Getting their input and making them feel like a part of building this new chapter with us is a beautiful idea. It makes it real for all of us.

No... please don't... I definitely don't want you to... Especially not right now. I am? I don't always feel it, I swear every time I look in the mirror a new wrinkle has appeared on my face, but I suppose if you like what you see, I'm not going to stop you saying lovely things, because it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

They're incredible kids, aren't they? I know people always say that their own kids are the best, but I really think mine actually are. So kind, warm, funny, intelligent, nothing like me at all. I just make sure they're fed and clothed, they do all the rest. More than anything, I just show them that I trust them, so on the rare times I have to set things straight with them, they respect it. Sometimes I'll get a bit of sass, but it's nothing I can't handle, and it's usually just hormones. Most of parenting is just patience. And I just happen to have kids that are easy to be patient with. Think you'd like your own one day? Yeah, Willow is great at keeping her younger siblings in line. Not that it's too hard a job, just make sure they've had dinner and don't stay up too late, and they'll look after themselves the rest of the time.

Now there's my proposal idea out the window. I suppose at least I have time to come up with something better. Susie said she'd fly over with the kids and the papers so we can work through it all together and she'll take them back and file them. Hopefully that'll make it all go even quicker. Well, it's not going to be a 6 storey behemoth of a townhouse, but some place with enough bedrooms for us all, without feeling like we're on top of each other constantly feels like the right vibe. Definitely still doesn't feel real. Kiss me, I must be dreaming.

Can I say in plain English with a southern accent that the moment I saw you, I was a goner too. Call it kismet, fate, or just incredibly good timing, but all the same the made my heart quiver. Glad we agree on the facts here. They adore their dad though I witness it every time we go out there, as they should. But if they're willing to let me into their circle that's a choice I will honor and make them never regret. I know you wont admit it all the time but you slightly worried how someone would feel about you having three kids, but honestly? Seeing what it makes you into is just a huge part of the package. Skipping the awkward, high-pressure milestone really was just a luck strike.There was no heavy lifting in this just us being us. Summer holidays beginning here soon? All the time with them? I mean count me in. Speaking of Suzie...how'd it go, you know the talk about the papers?

I think we need the biggest most chaotic and fun space here. I mean obviously our space needs space for forts, movie nights, and whatever else the days have in store for us. Of course their opinion on it is foremost important.

Mm, I could definitely hear you say that a few more times in that accent of yours. If I didn't find it so attractive, I'm not sure this relationship would've worked out, but lucky for both of us, I could listen to you talk all day. Even better when you whisper in my ear and it gives me goosebumps on the back of my neck. I'm sort of glad that they're at just the right age for me to find a new partner, like I don't have to sit and explain to them what's going on, they're old enough to be good judges of character and know their own boundaries of everything. That adds to the easiness. Just brace yourself for a chaotic few months over the summer, though. If you do need a bit of a break from them, you can always hide away in your apartment for a couple of days and I'll say you've had to get on with some work. I've had the privilege of being slowly exposed to the chaos over time, but I think an instant switch of it might be a lot for you, and I don't want you to feel bad about that. And if we really need to, I'm sure Willow wouldn't mind watching the others for an evening so we can still have a date night here and there.

It went really well. Even better than I imagined, and I knew she was going to be open to talk about it. She basically had the same thought as me of "how did we let this get away from us for so long?" Luckily we figured out all the financial and custody arrangements ages ago, so all we have to do is file the paperwork together and endure the waiting period and it's final. I'll try not to get down on one knee in excitement as soon as it's gone through, but I can't make any promises.

I think a nice townhouse could do the job, near Central Park so we can make the most of the good weather days. Eden insists we have to visit the Bronx Zoo at least once, Aubrey wants to see some live music, and Willow is planning to visit all the top art galleries, with or without us. So it sounds like they've already got big plans for us. Perhaps we can worm in an idea or two of our own here and there. Whilst they're here, maybe we could get their thoughts on getting a place for all of us. Look at a few properties, maybe. Just a thought.

playing a villain, huh? all the more reason for me to catch up. is he worse than your character in abigail? because i hated that dude, which is really just a testament of how good of an actor you are. nothing better than a return trip to napa. you'll have to let me know how the second round goes whenever you get around to it.

You know me, I love playing a baddie. He's a serial killer, so slightly worse, and a lot more creepy, I'd say. I definitely will! Not sure when it'll happen, though. Between work and the kids being off school for the summer, I don't think I'll be getting much free time any day soon.

Lucky for you, you don't have to endure me being miserable anymore, because we're both staying here now, and it's a dream. Except when I'm messing up her space, obviously. And she wants to live with me, if you can believe it - what is she thinking? Enough about me, what are you up to these days? Dating some Irish fellow, aren't you?

like two little horror ships passing in the night. i genuinely cannot believe we haven’t crossed paths yet, and i am absolutely leading the “dan and samara starring in a horror movie together” bandwagon. as it was a devastating fumble on matt and tyler’s part to not have us in the same movie, should we bug them for roles in their next radio silence project? or the alternative is dramatically complaining on the internet and let the fans do all the work.

It needs to happen - the world of horror won't be the same again once we're doing with it. I love that idea, I'm sure you can have a word with them. I'll go after Simon, since I've got a movie coming out with him in a few months, and he loves cooking up something good. Come at them from all angles. We can make complaints on the internet, that could work in our favour, too. We will not give up.

No do it, I dare you. Really? That just gave me goosebumps all over to hear that. Thanksgiving is such a magical time and well meeting them was magical. I didnt want to let myself see family in it but this past few months I cant help but see it and know better yet where I belong with the kids. You know and we've talked about it I never will try to step in someone else' respectful place but I have tangible and beautiful relationships with each of your kids. Good cause now the puddle is even bigger.

Hear my soul speak. Of the very instant that I saw you, did my heart fly at your service. It was the nicest day, it felt like kismet that we'd be doing the same thing, and I'm so glad we did so together. They might love me more out of obligation, but they definitely like you more than me already. It was something I was quite worried about after Susie and I split, that somebody wouldn't be interested in being with a guy with three kids. That's not an easy thing to take on. But I think because you met them as my friend, that whole side of it has felt easy from the off. There hasn't really been a "time to meet my kids" situation, so that worry was alleviated straight away. Speaking of the kids, by the way, Susie's said about them coming to visit me in New York for a couple weeks, since their summer holidays start at the weekend - how do you feel about renting a bigger place for a few weeks? I'm going to need a bigger bucket.

it is the best. i mean, even at events where we are all together, there is usually a million cameras around and you don't really get a catch up, it was nice to have time to enjoy ourselves. i am back at work, had to go straight to set. what about you?

Yeah, that's true, and it's definitely not the same. With a trip, we have a good few days to really enjoy ourselves. Same here! What are you working on? I'm in the new season of Dexter, so that's a lot of fun.
