FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD! Definitely one of the worlds largest dilemmas. I mean we can go back to bible days and see struggles derived from food. Fast forward to today and there is just so much food, yet more health problems than ever because of food. Why does the thought of having a perfectly balanced diet sound easy, but every day we live, we encounter so many little choices that make it impossible?! Okay so you’ve watch Dr. OZ (who makes everything seem matter of factly easy...except dancing---> https://youtu.be/MgtNugrhyro) and every day he says something needs to be included in your diet...then you think about it and you realize in order to take in all your essential nutrients, every day you need to eat kale, palm oil, quinoa, spinach, broccoli, beans, beets, fresh juice, lean meats, coconut oil, sea salt, olive oil, turmeric, ginger, yogurt, salmon, avocados, wheat grass, flax seeds, chia seeds, walnuts, acai bowl.....okay okay ill stop. HOW DO I EAT ALL OF THIS IN ONE DAY AND JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT SO I DON’T GET FAT? So once you tried going healthy...decided it’s just way too overwhelming...and WHY IS IT SO EXPENSIVE? It’s easier to just eat what I want, take a multivitamin and call it a day. This health craze is just a scam, and lets face it none of these foods give me the energy Dr. Oz promised anyway. I’ll save the money; besides chipotle is healthy...yeah, it has salad, and beans, and PROTEIN; plus a little sour cream and cheddar never hurt anyone...AND GUAC...so many benefits like something about good fats, right?
Okay so the thing about food is we never gave it much thought until the moment we recognized that it affects our body and how people perceive us. Once we gain the consciousness and we get told things about calories and amounts of fats and carbs, we become super alert and afraid of food. Food became the enemy (but best friend for comfort because it’s always there to make us feel good). Food is seriously like one of those best friends that seem to always be there when you need them, but cause ALL of the drama in your life and you're always in a fight with or mad at for betraying you...but then you make up and hang out again, because it’s fun, AND ALWAYS THERE. So lets name your regular unconscious eating “Habit” (toxic friend). You're sick of Habit and can't take anymore of her shit. You go searching for another friend and find a friendship you know can definitely work...we will call that friend “Diet”. So you go to Diet because you know Diet is consistent, and at the end of the day you can sleep well and know you don't have that extra drama in your life that Habit gives you. You are not constantly feeling like shit because Diet is predictable....but Diet is plain and gets boring real fast, and you need excitement in your life. Diet just doesn’t give you the thrill and the rush that Habit gives you. You realize you and Diet aren't that compatible after all. You scroll through Instagram and see Habit having so much fun with so many other people and you get a little anxious so call Habit up...and so the cycle continues...Habit is back and so is all your drama. Sound familiar? If you’re thinking about an actual friend.... let’s not get into that today!
The thing about both Habit and Diet are neither of them actually make you feel good. The reason being is that you are looking to them to make you feel good. When you chase a rush, you keep chasing, no matter what kind. Be it food, relationships, or thrills. There is no secret to food. Food’s purpose to to provide us with essential elements for our body to process, so naturally we enjoy it. Finding the friend or friend that is good for you, and you can actually stomach, takes time, but you have to listen to what your gut tells you. Your belly tells you I'm so full...but your mind tells you one more bite. We know our bodies instinctively but we fight it searching for a fill. If you are looking for the magic answer....and thought at the end of this you were going to get one...think again. There is none. Every decision you make...it needs to be conscious. You need to ask yourself, why you are eating what you’re eating and at the end of the day, what does it do for you? If you are happy with your answer every time, then you are making the right choice. If you regret the decision every time, then you made the right choice still....and in time you will learn...even if it’s at the end. You did it how you wanted.
