"...Myka..." says Helena, and the uncharacteristicly careful tone makes Myka turns to look at her.
"Yes?" she asks, puzzled.
"Yes," echoes Helena, "that is to say, what I mean is..." She clears her throat unnecessarily, and stands straighter, throwing her shoulders back. "Myka," she begins again.
"Yes," says Myka, as if confirming a fact that Helena seemed uncertain about.
"Well," says Helena. She frowns, looking into the middle distance for a moment. "We've known each other for some time now — years in fact! — and, well, lately I've been thinking that, that... Well." She trails off again and blinks, appearing to have lost her thread.
Myka, who is fascinated with whatever this is, helps: "'We've known each other for some time now'...?"
"Ah, yes," says Helena, "Myka, my dear. We've known each other for some time now, and..." she puts her hands in her pockets and Myka can hear her playing with her keys, "and, well, we seem to knock about together fairly well, so... I was thinking that perhaps it might be nice I mean lovely if we were to, that is, I would be honoured if...?" she trails off meaningfully, then clears her throat again. "So." She nods once. "Well. How about it, old thing?"
....
"THAT'S how she proposed?" says Tracy, mouth open in horror.
"Certainly not!" splutters Helena, incensed, "It wasn't a bit like it! Why, I was eloquence itself! The epitome of the ardent suitor! Suitress!" ("Suitrix?" she considers briefly, then shakes her head) "She's telling it wrong!" she j'accuses.
"That's how she proposed," confirms Myka.
Helena gasps. "Of all the ungrateful, slanderous little petticoats I've ever had the misfortune to—!"
"'Old thing!?" Tracy repeats with what Helena regards as an unladylike amount of glee.
"I said yes, of course" says Myka, fondly.
Helena sniffs. "I think I've just changed my mind. Actually I think I'm probably going to move to the Isle of Wight and learn to grow orchids. Alone! Well, I may keep pigs. I admire a good pig. One knows where one is with a pig..." she trails off, suddenly aware that the sisters are ignoring her and talking excitedly and that Myka has started making a list.
"I am going to go for a walk in the garden," says Helena rising with dignity, and adding, with slightly less dignity "if anyone cares." And, conscious that that she has rather ruined her exit, she skulks out the room.
hey! not an ask, but just wanted to share that there is a new kyalin discord. everyone’s been kinda busy so it hasn’t been super active lately, but everyone is really nice :)) it’s a mix of artists, fic writers and just all around kyalin lovers! Here’s the invite link if you are interested in joining:
But they never interacted!
Darling— it never mattered. Kyalin may be a crackship, a fanon fever dream, but it is also a community project spanning well over a decade that was touched by the hands of many queer artists and writers over the years.
Thousands of words of fic and many canvases later, it became real to us and that is what is important.
"Lin ... do you ever ... regret it?" Kya's words pulled Lin out of the rambling of her own thoughts and back into the present moment. They had been casually talking, sitting beside each other in the moon light, catching up after the long awaited return of the avatar to republic city. Lin froze, a heat growing in her cheeks, she knew instantly what Kya had been referring to; the night Kya had left with Korra for the south pole, the night they had shared a kiss for the first time. Lin couldnt recall who had kissed who, her memory was clouded with the overwhelming sensation of Kyas soft lips and hot breath. They had probably exchanged over a hundred letters in the time they had been apart, but Lin had never been brave enough to the approach the subject, or maybe she couldnt ever find the right words.
Kya's hands were restless as Lin looked at her; her impossibly blue eyes searched her face for answers, it made Lins chest feel tight. She reached across and tenderly tucked Kya's loose hair behind her ear, lingering there, "Ky..." Lin nearly whispered, "how could you even ask me that." Kya let out a short releaved breath that was almost a laugh. A lopsided smile tugged at Lins own lips as she pulled Kya in and closed the space between them, kissing her fully.

little more than five sentences , and if thats a crime ... then lock me up.
since we know that suyin (the sister who leaves her past behind) goes on to establish zaofu, i like the idea of lin (the sister who clings to the past) inheriting their family house in the republic city and then never changing anything in it. she rationalizes this by telling herself that selling the house just to get a different one simply isn't worth the hassle, but in truth it's her emotional attachment to what the house symbolizes and what could have happened in it that's keeping her tethered. moving the belongings of her sister (left behind when she was sent away to gaoling) doesn't feel right, but neither does letting them gather dust, so she tidies the room up once in a while when cleaning the rest of the house. probably gets uncomfortably emotional while doing that. definitely gets annoyed and frustrated with herself for getting emotional. likely considers shipping suyin's things off to zaofu in a cardboard box when she gets too angry with their one-sided correspondence, but never finds it in herself to go through with it, so when post-reconciliation suyin comes in for a visit, she's confronted with a pristinely polished and deeply incriminating shell of her past self.
#20 “all the clothes you own, and you still insist on wearing mine.” For the five sentence prompts.

Lin bumped the satomobile door shut, a hefty bag slung over her shoulder and her arms brimming with paperwork. After a long day, jam packed with dull council meetings, she was ready to relax. The lights of her home were already on and she knew Kya was inside, through the exhaustion she smiled softly, it was a welcome surprise. Pushing through the front door, Lin was bathed in golden light and greated by the delicious smell of curry. She dumped everything, armor and all, at the door and made her way to the kitchen to find the heavenly sight of her girlfriend dressed entirely in her clothes.
Kyas hair, holding a residual wetness, lay freely over her shoulders, a black RCPD zip-up slipping from her frame, and her ridiculously long legs were on display in Lins too small RCPD shorts; she must of come straight over after her shift at the hospital. Kya greated her with a soft 'hi baby' as Lin wrapped her arms around her from behind, burying her face into the crook of Kyas neck, placing several kisses there. "All the clothes you own, and you still insist on wearing mine." Lin spoke softly into Kyas ear, causing her to stop tending to the curry and roll her eyes, a smile bubbling. Lins hands ran up underneath the hoodie, finding bare skin as she spoke lowly, "I'm afraid I'm going to need you to remove them."
