This new Dragon Boat Festival pin arrived late but better late than never! It will join the Lunar New Year lantern pin in the Lantern pin series 😀 Did you know? The Dragon Boat Festival is a holiday celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar (typically in late May or June.) The most well known story for the origin of this festival is the story of Qu Yuan, a high official who committed suicide by drowning himself in the river. People that highly respected him raced out on boats to save him and when they could not, they threw sticky rice balls (zongzi) into the river in hopes that the fish would eat them instead of Qu Yuan.
