chwibin:
how like her it was to lose her plus-one the moment she entered the threshold; the crowds of swaying bodies that scattered throughout the venue were all quick to swallow anyone who came anywhere near and soobin could only assume that her friend fell victim to the castaway, leaving her to her own devices. that was a good hour ago, however —- and in the meantime, soobin had done anything but stand around and twiddle her thumbs: while surrounded by many faces, there were thankfully a good few that struck familiar —- and so she migrated, mingling with the few she recognized. fleeting conversation ensued, following a ‘ friendly ‘ bet between strangers and a sudden clash of egos… and yet in the middle of it all, soobin was driven into an intense drinking game where she- unfortunately- took her biggest loss yet ( hubris be damned ). it was miserable; parties and large get-togethers were never much of soobin’s thing in the first place. at least… not while she was sober.
it wasn’t too long afterwards that she decided to break from the group; one foot carefully stepped in front of the other and soobin seemed to concentrate more on how to walk, rather than where. as far as drinking went, she wasn’t completely sloshed ( thank goodness? ) but rather the nerves that weighed on her shoulders were swept away by the mild inibriation and actual fun she found herself having. soobin didn’t want to have that fun alone, though; so she stopped in her path to raise her gaze, eyes sweeping the field for another familiar face – until she found one.
soobin oscillated back onto her heels, hands cupping around her mouth before she took a breath to yell out to her roommate, “ na. NA – ! ” no response —- the resounding music blasting around the area seemed to drown her voice before it could even reach the other and really? walking all the way over would be such a pain. lips bent into a pout and it was apparent that that was no longer really an option —- a soft groan was released and soobin bounced onto the balls of her feet before getting a start in making her way over to the other, taking the girl’s hand before whomever she was speaking to previously could provide an answer. the gesture itself may have been seen as a bit rude, but she wanted na’s attention: and soobin didn’t want to wait for it.
“ na —- pay attention to me instead, okay? it’s me-time. ”
“soobin !! i thought that was you that i saw waddling your way over here. i wasn't a hundred percent sure about it given all the students that are here.. so i decided against commenting on it. you looked so cute, just like a little baby penguin trying to get used to walking on ice.” na giggles lightly, recalling the scene she had just witnessed within her peripheral vision. her roommate was already such a tiny girl and paired with her tottering over to her she fit the image of a newborn penguin.. or maybe even a deer trying to learn how to walk. she wasn’t sure which of the two illustrations she preferred to use to describe the older female. they both seemed to capture said woman’s cuteness almost perfectly -- because lets be real, soobin’s cuteness is not something that can be matched. the thought of the previously mentioned animals bringing a hint of a smile to her face.
letting herself be dragged away by her best friend, na turned her head toward the smaller woman as they walked away from the person she had been attempting to ask for a dance. “okay, it’s soobin time. but before we officially start soobin time, can we go get another drink? that was my first of the night.” are you having a good time?; that was another question that lingered in her mind. the taller girl hoped that she and jinsoo were enjoying themselves. given the fact that she had practically begged them to attend the party with her, even though they got separated once they arrived. there’s that pang of guilt that she’s starting to feel as she remembers that the male doesn’t really feel comfortable at events like this especially not alone. “have you seen jinsoo?”
