It's difficult to summarize WHY Yoga is #morethanapose but I feel in my heart to help spread this ideology and message driven practice because it's so TRUE! ....... I've been practicing Yoga for about 12 years now. ... I too once thought it was just exercise... But what you learn over time (and everyone's "time" is different) is that you can not "do" Yoga. The word Yoga is sanskrit. It means to yoke, or unite; and it's referring to the union between your personality (your earthly ego) and your higher Self (which is often referred to as your spirit or soul.) ..... when these become united, MAGIC happens! Magic = freedom, peace, joy, love and happiness. ....... We can practice Yoga in a multitude of fashions - the poses (asanas) are just *one* route to release the tensions from your body - the unnecessary bullshit that is just sitting in your physical being, preventing you from moving towards healing and connecting to your true inner spirit (which is always at peace.) ...... Asanas (the poses that we thought were just exercise) teach us how to move freely in our body. It doesn't matter what you're wearing or where you're at or how easily you can touch your toes... YOU ALWAYS have the freedom to move the way you want, feel the way you want, breathe the way you want and be happy through the thick and the thin. The world is not throwing things AT us - it's opening up FOR us... we can choose to *resist* and become stiffened and locked up and suffer under ailments and sicknesses and sufferings.... think about it: the more uptight and stiff you are, the more miserable you are. *ORRRR* we can choose to GO WITH THE FLOW!!! the more we stretch our bodies, the more our minds relax and become one with our souls.... you'll have no choice but to smile!! There's no end with Yoga - it's a practice every single time - you never become the greatest Yogi ever - you just learn how to go with the flow. (at Atlanta, Georgia)
