I think that was the shows point though. they got a sad ending. I dont think the show tried to do an alternative universe or a next life type trope. No. They got a sad ending after all their fighting and working together and going against the odds. The world theyre in failed them so they may as well ask for a different world even without them. Those were just lookalikes
