“Subverting” Catholic art? Oh, okay. I see, you think this has nothing to do with you. You log onto the internet and you post about how “Wound of Christ” from Psalter and Prayer Book of Bonne de Luxembourg, attributed to Jean le Noir, c.1349, for instance, looks like a vulva because you're trying to tell the world that you enjoy Catholic art and imagery in an alternative, queer, risqué way that challenges Christian beliefs. But what you don't know is that that stigma isn’t just a vulva. It's not just a mandorla. It's not just yonic. It's actually intentionally erotic. And you're also blithely unaware of the fact that around 1297, Saint Angela of Foligno experienced a vision of Christ himself, who called her to put her mouth to the wound in his side and lick the freshly flowing blood. And then I think it was Saint Catherine of Siena who drank blood and a clear liquid from the wound before receiving a ring made from Christ’s foreskin? whenever i see a post about someone wondering how an  asexual and a sexual can be in a healthy relationship there’s always someone being applauded for saying well asexuals can have sex too or just because someone’s asexual doesn’t mean they won’t have sex but i have never, not once, EVER seen someone say well hey, some sexuals don’t have sex. you can have a full relationship without sex. just throwing it out there

Everyone in the notes saying polyamory and open relationships are great fixes for this too are missing the point. Ace people can have sex—and, yes, some enjoy sex. Yes, open relationships can be loving and healthy for ace people too. But ultimately you’re saying asexuality needs to be fixed by access to sex somehow. To quote op ‘you can have a full relationship without sex’. Your suggestion to find sex outside of the relationship with an ace partner completely misses that point.

I'm concerned that Americans are self indulging again. Any time on reddit or x when I see ppl say Trump won the election, he won the vote, he won all swing states etc, it gets met with defensiveness or down votes or something like that.

But that's true, he did all those things

Why is that reaction happening? Because there is cognitive dissonance between being proud of your country and knowing that it's run by bad guys. This is amplified by things like Olympics and Superbowl that increase your sense of nationalism and make you feel warm and fuzzy about the American flag again.

But Trump won the election because people voted for him. He won every swing state. And this is after 4 years where he showed us exactly what he is. He won harder the second time.

This is what America is. Singing along to green day is not rebellion. Liking bad bunny does not fix it. Holding up an apology poster at the Olympics so the other countries know we really are the good guys, don't worry, it was just a mistake! Is self-serving and indulgent of the hero complex Americans can't see past. The rest of the world knows that. Grow the fuck up.

i'm always a bit unsettled by disdain for intellectual or creative labor in leftist spaces. there's this commonly held belief that academics are a bunch of rich old white men, rather than a wide variety of people who are barely getting by. most lecturers in universities are adjuncts living paycheck to paycheck. authors make very little money as a general rule. most researchers are overworked and underpaid. and yet there's still this idea that academics are overcompensated to sit around and smoke cigars together while making shit up
