An Introduction

[Before you stands a gray-haired, curvy beauty with what can only be described as a living dust bunny cradled carefully in her arms. Her outfit, reminiscent of those associated with a popular gentlemans’ magazine, seems to be lined with fluffs of dust as motes float down from her curly hair. 

She blinks, squinting her eyes slightly against the bright lights of the room–years spent in the shadow of a couch obviously having an impact–and shakes her head before giving you a warm, sweet smile. When she speaks, her voice has a soft tone and a charming southern drawl to it.]

Well, howdy there, honey! I’m Dolly the Dust Bunny, and this is my lil’ buddy Lint Eastwood.

[She holds up her tiny companion for you to see. The creature makes a strange, murping sound of greeting before snuggling back into her arms.]

I’m a tenured professor at D.I.R.T.–that’d be the Domestic Institute of Research and Technology. Been teachin’ courses on Abiological History and the Dustonians there for just about 114 years now–if you count my time as a part time instructor during my Master’s of course. My favorite places in the house are the institute’s archeological dig sites, but you can really find me all over the place in my time off. Well, the floors at least, but right now I’m rather partial to the space under this here couch! 

[Despite the cheery announcement of that preference, her posture seems stiff from the cramped space.] 

I think I’ll take a minute to stretch my legs out, but why don’t you come back and visit me some time? I’d sure love to see you again and get to know you better, sugar. Maybe I can even give you a tour of one of the sites!

Hello, everyone! I'm @scarlet-streak-fanfics, though I generally go by Merc. I've been playing Dolly over on @ask-everything for a bit and wanted a blog where I could do all my weird lore ideas for her without causing issues for the other mods, so @lingerie-lectures was born! Bonus points if you get the reference. :) 1. There's currently no limit on the number of asks that you send, though please do not spam it. I'll try to answer as often as possible.

2. You can send roleplay, NSFW asks, pretty much anything--that does not mean I'll respond to it. If something makes me uncomfortable, I will not be answering it. Anything NSFW will be tagged as such so you can avoid it if you choose to. Admittedly, NSFW or flirtatious asks will likely get a better response from Lune. That's part of why they were added!

3. I am 23 years old--if you choose to send something NSFW, it cannot be anonymous and your blog must display your age so I can verify you are 18+. This is a hard boundary that I will not be budging on.

4. If you're worried something won't be acceptable, please feel free to DM me! I don't mind taking a moment to chat and make sure things are above board.

THAT gets Stephen to jolt with a gasp. "Wait—the external hard drive? Are you the fanfiction?" he asks. "Do you know who made you? What happened? Why was there so much of you? I'm sorry, I know—I know you've, like, existed for a very short time. But what do you know?"

"No wonder you don't have a voice yet," Skylar says. "We'll fix that, alright?"

Chance immediately grabs the external drive, setting it down firmly on the desk. Stephen takes a moment, adjusting the Dateviators, and then presses down on the temples.

[Lune claps his hands, looking pleased.]

Ah, Yan, look! You’ve finally been D.A.T.E.’d! That means our lovely audience can see your face!

are you sure? i don’t feel any different.

Of course, but look at yourself.

This is my… well, assistant isn’t quite the right word, but he has been rather helpful in this process. You will usually see them in the form on the left, but he can shapeshift. The form on the right is for someone special.

Welcome to the Carnivale Ignota!

The attic is usually dark at this time of night, the one bare bulb that usually illuminates it long gone cold. However, one of the boxes--which seems to have tipped on its side at some point--is casting a soft silvery light on the walls.

If you walk towards it, you'd find the room around you growing larger and larger until even the box itself is taller than you. Soft music and the sound of distant voices chattering emanates from it, and the sounds only grow louder when one of the flaps is pushed aside.

The man who emerges from it has a wide, friendly smile. His hair is brown, shaggy, and just below his chin in length, but his beard is well kept. His outfit is akin to that of a circus ringmaster, though the cheap costume cape and magician's top hat he's wearing seem slightly out of place with the rest of the ensemble. If you look closely at the inside of the cape, it seems to be made out of an instruction manual. He bows in greeting. "Hello there! I am the magnificent Kitt Kazam, the ringmaster of the Carnivale Ignota. It's been quite some time since we've last had guests to perform for, and we would love it if you would join us at least for the night.

He pulls the cardboard flap fully aside, revealing a portal of swirling silvery mist. Will you enter?

Merc here in an OOC post! This account here is a Date Everything Original Character Ask Blog that's going to have a interactive story component to it that askers can directly participate in--including any DE Canon ask blogs, by the way. When you send an ask off anon or with an anon tag, you will basically be getting your own character, and the characters on the blog will remember you, the things you say, and the relationships you build. If that sounds interesting to any of y'all, I'd love to get some more asks for it!

Maybe that, despite my cute bunny look, I'm a tenured professor and published researcher with three PhDs and four black belts. Could save me more than a few uncomfortable conversations and unwanted advances.

Hi Dolly! Have you ever had an epiphany? What was it about, and what sparked the realization?

[Dolly already looks surprisingly embarrassed, her cheeks flushed as laughter can be heard in the background.]

"The mushrooms! The mushrooms!"

He's not wrong. After we found "Ancient Ascension", I'd been so sure that we were missing something even though the other experts working on the site had all but finalized their analysis of the piece. For three days, I barely left my office for anything--Lune handled most of my other work.

And then when I came back on the fourth day, it was like an explosion had happened. Papers everywhere, a printout of the bottom right quarter of the painting pinned to the wall with all the mushrooms circled with marker.

The night before, I'd heard a few other professors talking about a student who'd showed up to class after taking shrooms--not the brightest bulb in the box, but it was enough to get me looking. I was so tired and excited that the best explanation I could give was, "The mushrooms!"

Before she showed me the research, I almost thought that she'd gotten so frustrated that she'd tried shrooms herself.

Hush.

To both of you: if you could know for certain the answer to any question, what would that question be?

Gosh, now that's a difficult question. The researcher in me says I'd want to know for certain if one of my theories was true. However, I think what I'd most like to know is if my work will pay off--will my peers ever stop dismissing my ideas, or will I always need to be fighting for it?

[Behind her, Lune is uncharacteristically quiet, almost contemplative.]

I'd have to get back to you on that one, my dear. Dr. Duston's answer is an excellent one, though, so it would likely be mine as well.

What’s your favorite time period to study? Mine’s the Gilded Age and Progressive Era.

Well, most of my area of study is Abiological History of Dust Bunnies within the house--for that, my obvious favorite would our equivalent to human Prehistory with the early Dustonians.

If I had to pick a time in human history, I think I'd have to go with the Classical period and ancient Greece! I've done some reading on it, specifically The Road to Eleusis for my research into ritual hallucinogenics use.

Why, my dear, I could never insult my wonderful employer. Dr. Duston has been nothing but a pleasure to work with, and her passion for her research is entirely unmatched. The closest I could come is that she works too hard, and even that is out of a place of caring for her well-being.

[Dolly, on the other hand, seems to have pulled out an actual list from somewhere.]

[Lune looks almost hurt, their brow furrowing slightly.]

Dr. Duston, how much of that is just about me being a flirt?

Luceford, I don't care about how much you get around. What does matter is when you come in late to work because you lost track of time in Philadelphia! For goodness sake, get a watch.

hey dolly, what kind of technology did the ancient dustonians have? like how advanced was the society they lived in? did they use irrigation from like leaky pipes or something?

Well, here's the thing, sugar: thanks to the cataclysm of the Great Mid-Century Remodel, a lot of artifacts and information we could have had were lost due the introduction of outside dust and the disruption of old deposits. That's why it's so rare to find things like the digsite that houses “Ancient Ascension”--it requires undisturbed, original sections of the house.

If you were to ask my colleagues, they'd probably say Ancient Dustonians were no more advanced than early stone age humans, but artifacts like the Velveteen Gemstone have certain requirements for their creation that lead me to believe their technology was much more advanced, or at least on-par with humans at the time. We've even found remnants of complex transportation systems at the site, which I've found particularly interesting.

I will say, though, Dust Bunnies had no need for irrigation--we mostly consume more dust, so I suppose we'd qualify as hunter-gatherers, maybe with a bit of animal husbandry thrown in. Leaky pipes would have often spelled disaster for smaller groups who encountered them while larger settlements have shown ruins of defenses against flooding.
