An Interview with Elena Baca:" I Just Paint whatever I Think!
Knowing with Elena is because she was painting this picture outside, which causes my attention since then. I can't believe that she just starts painting from last spring when she was traveling in Spain, which is really a fabulous place for cultivating artists. Today I had an interview with her and she is exactly the person who can solve my problems in painting.
---------------------------------------------------------
What kind of painting are you good at? Make a copy of someone's work or create something in your mind?
I make a copy sometimes, like this one (she pointed a picture on her wall.) is a master's work. But actually, I paint in real life. I paint what I see. (she started to show me her works.) This is what I see through my window, and this is here. This is a swimming pool. I just pick an angle and sit there and start to draw. Just sitting there and doing it.
What will you define yourself? A painter or a designer. I wanna be a designer but I don't think I'm a creative guy. I stop painting for several years because I don't want to always make a copy. I wanna do something by my own. I mean even if I can paint exactly the same work from a master, it's still not mine. I'm just good at copying. Having your ever thought about that or do you have some advice for me?
I don't think you are not creative. You need to develop it. Just draw what you see and what you think. You just get into it. You can start from photos. (She taught me some details from what she has drawn in Spain.)
What if your painting is not the same as what you think or what you see? Do you worry about that?
I'm pretty okay in using the dimensions I use a ruler to help me. Because when you think it's one angle, it's actually another. I tend to just go with the flow, knowing that the color will change. It won't come out the exact way. It's not important you put all the details. What important is that you are into what you're drawing. You have passion and you are motivated to do it. You work with colors and change the tones. You just play and have fun with it.
I really love colorful things. I become excited when I see color. But it just stop there and I don't know what to do next. How to use the color to painting.
I love colors too. It's okay. It takes times. Last semester, I took a water color in course and they focused on color, and how the colors interact. Some colors could be active or could be angry feel. And the red colors pop out. And it depends on how intense the colors are. I try to stick with similar colors and then an exactly opposite, just bring things out. (Then she showed me how she is better used colors in her work.)
Do you think you will take an art school since you have a passion on it.
No, I don't think so. I don't need to do that. I'm just drawing what I see. Usually I have trouble with abstract. But I'm getting better. It's part of my style. I believe that the world is my teacher. So I would learn as I do it. It's what you believe, who cares.Art is so objective. Yeah, there will be people who don't like your stuff, but there will be also other people who will love it.

The interview with Elena is so happy and useful. Color gives me passion. I just need to keep trying and start painting what I want.
I don't need someone else to tell me how the color matches. I need to know how I think it matches. But it takes time, more practice from now!
