Have you heard Hi Nay?

No
I haven't heard of this podcast
60.9% of people haven't heard of Hi Nay, but here's a quick rundown! It was originally inspired by The Magnus Archives and has since grown from when I introduced the idea in 2020.
Hi Nay, literally translated to “Hi Mom”, is a supernatural horror fiction podcast about Filipina immigrant Mari Datuin, whose babaylan (shaman) family background accidentally gets her involved in stopping dangerous supernatural events in Toronto.
It's got Queer, mostly BIPOC protagonists, a "Scooby Gang" of a found family dealing with terrifying encounters in Toronto, flashbacks to Filipino Folklore horrors, and body horror aplenty
(but it's also secretly five love stories stacked in a trenchcoat, and is primarily about the horrors of capitalism, colonialism, and other systems of dehumanization)
And the existential horror of being Filipino
It's got almost 50 story episodes available on Acast, and now under the Rusty Quill Network banner. It has a similar sound to TMA through phone calls and tape recordings; "Hi Nay" is how Mari greets her Nanay or mother when she calls her about her encounters with the supernatural.
It's got horrible rotting monsters, terrifying hanging ghosts, horrible corpse puppets, giant wolves, Filipino Folklore creatures, and the scariest thing of all: rich people immortal occultists whose immortality is fed by "fear death".
It's got a monster of the week format with an overarching plot, and is now in Act 3 of its first season. It's written by a Filipina and the main cast is majority BIPOC as well!
It's kind of funny to realize that despite being inspired by The Magnus Archives, we've flipped the script; with generally hostile co-workers becoming generally genial friend group, with the more clinical institutional storytelling of other people's experiences in TMA becoming a more personal recounting of the Protagonist's own experiences to a loved one, and of course, rather than the acerbic, intellectual asexual man who's quite fucked up and traumatized, you get a warm and friendly pansexual woman (who's also quite fucked up and traumatized).
Give us a listen if that interests you! We're on Acast, and wherever you listen to podcasts.
