evcryopeneyeâ:
The last time she had felt this level of adrenaline coupled with âwe need to get the hell out of here,ââ had been their SeeD exam. Their escape had been fuelled almost entirely by pure adrenaline, Selphie couldnât even explain the exhaustion sheâd felt after, like someone had literally zapped all of the life out of her limbs. She could feel the same feeling now. Even the cold purity of Shiva didnât take the edge of it, even if the cure spell was enough to slap a bandaid onto a wound long enough they could escape, she knew relief was temporary, pain would return, and then they would be in a whole other world of difficulty.
Even with all of that, he was reassuring, thankful that he still seemed to have his wits about him, mostly because she didnât feel like she had. It was unsettling to say the least. As fast as she could, she began slotting events together in her mind. Like a jigsaw puzzle. Trying to straighten them out in her mind and find some solid ground (metaphorically) to beginning drawing conclusions off, and plans on. A plan of action was only as accurate as the facts you used to make your decisions.
A shaking breath as Selphie leaned against the wall, her eyes looked up, trying to identify the sounds above them on the balcony. A spike of adrenaline kept her still. Waiting and hoping that the sounds began to get quieter again. They were stuck in between a rock and a hard place. Thankfully, they seemed to have dodged at least one bullet tonight. While she managed to hold her opinion about Sorceress sympathisers together for the time being, the look on her face probably said it all. The ever cheerful and kind Selphie wrinkled her nose.
âIs it Minister in on it?â Seemed like the easy conclusion to make, even if Selphie didnât really want to think about it in that way. Laguna had a dangerous job after all. Any number of people would be willing to backstabbing him for their own gain. That was, after all, politicsâŠright?
A long, thoughtful exhale left Squallâs lips, and his expression hardened as she spoke. Pulling away and ceasing his spell for fear of giving their location away, Squall looked across the courtyard, sighing at all the dense foliage Laguna liked to keep. Reminded him of the âgood old days,â apparently. Not it would give them cover, but when they exited the garden? It would expose them in an instant. Pinching the bridge of his nose, his jaw ground together for a moment before he finally responded. âYeah. Gotta be. Else the whole place wouldnât be buzzing with sympathizers. Picking a day when Laguna was out checking on the Moon cleanup was a clever plan, honestly.â Not that he should be complimenting their enemies, but the situation was impressive. Shouting came from the distance, and Squall tried to formulate their next moves. âWeâll go through the garden, and once weâre out, we have to travel back through the building to get to the exit. Going through the front exit is a bad idea, we should take a round-about way and head for the transit station. We can hop off in the restaurant district for now, and wait till things calm down. Theyâll be forced to retreat sooner or later; Esthar guards will chase them out.â Â
Straightening himself, he reaffirmed his grip on Revolver and pulled up another spell; float. If they could avoid touching the ground, they could move more silently. âCan you walk?â he asked just as the magic surged through his arms and he felt himself lift off the ground some few inches. Turning to Selphie, he called up another float spell, hoping the lifting effect would take some weight off her wounds as well. âWeâre gonna make a break for it. They know weâre down here, so we canât stay much longer.âÂ
{OoC; Addressing some issues. This is a drama free blog. Iâve had other blogs in the past, but this blog itself is new. Iâm not pretending to be a new person, Iâve got a new blog. I am not trying to get close to anyone by roleplaying with their mututals. In fact, I blocked that specific person on everything and removed them from my life. I want nothing to do with them. I hope I never have to see them again, because they ended up pitching a fit when I was roleplaying with other people. Iâm not trying to sneak my way back into their lives by existing on Tumblr. I will continue to exist on tumblr. This person will not chase me off muses Iâve had for 3 years now just because they donât happen to like me. They think Iâm obsessed with them, when in reality, I just want to RP how I used to. Iâm not letting anyone think they have the right to chase me off a platform. I will remain on this blog, and Iâm formally putting out there that I want NOTHING to do with this person, and all I want is just to RP. If youâre mutuals with them, I couldnât care less. That has nothing to do with me. Be friends with whoever you want. I already blocked them, so what does it matter to me? Thank you for your time.}Â
@lionofbalambââ asked: â hey, hey⊠look at me, okay? you gotta get up now. you think you might be able to walk? âcause they sent for back-up, and if they find us⊠we cannot let them find us. understand? â (For Selphie)Â
âShitâŠâ She had been injured before, but not like this. The fall had been pretty substantial, she was sure that her ankle was broken, but she was beaten and bruisedâŠthankfully that felt like all. The adrenalin in her system made her reach for her weapon, a shaking hand scrambled for it. Feeling immediate relief as her hand wrapped around red painted wood, warm, familiar. Safe. In the moments when the shit really hit the fan, she felt a strange sense of comfort in her weapon. An extension of herself and her magic.
Squallâs presence however, came as a surprise.
Brown eyes watched him for a moment, wide as she tried to make sense of the ambush. They were trained to deal with this shit. This wasnât even the first time they had been ambushed togetherâŠbut this was the first time sheâd been surprised by it. âYeahâŠyeahâŠâ Unsteady on her feet she pulled herself up, a sharp spike through her side as she moved, it dragged a gasp out of her before she looked down, yellow dress stained red, âohâŠwow.â That stunned her. Selphie stared at it, trying to work out if sheâd been impaled by something as she fell off the balcony, or if sheâd been shot. Did it really matter right now?
âWe need to goâŠâ a nod of agreement. Though she was dazed and rattled enough that she wasnât entirely sure where âoutâ of here was. So much so that she reached for him, fingers desperately grabbed at the fabric of his jacket, trying to hold herself upright as the adrenalin from the fight started its near vertical crash.  âHow did they know where we were?â This operation had been planned carefullyâŠwhile it took some balls to ambush them, Selphie couldnât decide if the team were skilled or insane, to attempt it.
Shiva was anxious in the back of his mind, flittering about like an icy fae. He could feel her urgency; almost like she sensed something he didnât, and the frown that was already on his features only deepened. Yeah, he wasnât supposed to be out here with them. He was the Commander; he rarely went on missions that werenât A-Rank these days. But something about this entire operation wasnât sitting right with him. The job just didnât seem like it was that simple. His intuition had apparently been proven right, as unfortunate as that reality was. He couldnât keep hanging back when he saw the ambush and watched Selphie fall, unwilling to let someone so close to him go down. Not like this. So heâd leapt out from behind his cover and rushed to meet her, Revolver clutched in one hand while the other gripped her arm as he tried to help her up.
His gaze flew down to the bloodied mess that was seeping into her dress, and his heart instantly sunk. Calling up a cure spell; not the most effective, but the quickest and easiest to cast, he prayed it would be enough to stop the bleeding until they had a proper moment to themselves. Her delicate, yet strong fingers clutched into his jacket, and he twisted to move his body so he was supporting the full of her weight. Fingers tingled with a brilliant, starry light as he cast his spell, watching her skin glow with the purity of it. He stayed quiet for a moment, feeling the cool, soothing sensation wash from his hands into her, praying the situation could wait for just long enough to get her out of danger.
âI got you,â he mumbled, trying to sound as reassuring as he possibly could, âI got you, Selphie. Just wait a sec.â Squall said, eyes flashing an icy colour as he summoned up Shivaâs strength. Hearing how dazed she was, Squall leaned them both closer against the wall, hoping that his spell wasnât bright enough to give away their location. The dead of night was only advantageous if you managed not to give yourself away. Looking around wildly, Squall wanted to curse himself for not taking up Lagunaâs offer to walk around the pavilion with him. Had he known this operation would end up in such a mess, at least he could properly navigate through Estharâs increasingly complicated streets. âIt felt like a setup to me from the beginning. Thatâs why Iâm here.â He explained, answering her questions as quietly as he reasonably could. The sound of men shouting and footsteps crashing against the balcony above them hushed his whispers, eyes darting above them. He stiffened, waiting in pure silence before the sounds finally passed. Had they seen them? It was hard for him to say. âMeeting Laguna about the old Sorceress sympathizers in Esthar is one thing, but meeting his ministers instead? Laguna would want to talk about this personally, not send someone else to do it.âÂ

It had been so obvious when the man had taken the seat behind him. He might look young enough to pass as maybe a delinquent that had been held back a few times, but the other man wouldnât fool him. Heâd seen him around the Citadel, before he moved into his apartment. Hanging around Cor, around others in the âGuard, it was clear he was part of their forces in one way or another. Figures that someone would be found to act the part of his guard without raising too much suspicion.Â
Not that it was really working too well.
Girls spent way too much time staring at the new hottest guy in class, the news that the prince was very firmly batting for the other team saving him from most unwanted attention. While he didnât expect the soldier to know why he was getting glances, it wasnât a mystery to Noctis. The other half of the glares were from the guys, not trusting the new meat, or trying to see if he was someone to worry about or if he was good for targeting. It was a fight he would be happy to watch, seeing just how quickly a trained soldier could take out a bunch of high schoolers.
Though the brunet jumping slightly at the bell wasnât obvious to most, he sat behind him and the training heâd been receiving would have him shoot out of his seat and out the window in a hot second if he didnât already know the other. Instead, he startled as well, before turning around to give the other a look before he actually spoke.
â Itâs just a bell. Itâs not going to hurt you. If anything, the girls are more likely to get you with that act you are putting on. â A pause, and a small smile showed for a moment before it disappeared behind his normal mask of indifference. â Honestly just be normal and tell them that youâre gay. Theyâll leave you be. â It hadnât been a lie for him, but heâd seen plenty of others use it to get out of the unwanted advances.
Though⊠heâd only seen that outside school. Maybe it wouldnât work here. But itâd be entertaining if they adopted the other as their token gay friend.Â
Of all the things he hadnât been expecting, this certainly was at the forefront of the list. The way Noctis started alongside him suggested he at least had some brains in there; but that should be expected, considering the royal education that accompanied this... drivel. What threw the Glaive off wasnât that; however, but what came out of the princeâs mouth next. A subtle breath inflated his lungs, eyes widening just a bit to betray the sense of shock fluttering through his bones. To anyone looking at him right now, his expression had barely shifted in the slightest. But if it were someone who knew him, theyâd be able to tell he was truly thrown for a loop.
âI--â was not expecting those kinds of words to come out of a princeâs mouth, but here we are,â--what?â he said rather dumbly, unsure of whether or not his brain had just invented that entire interaction. He used to have a girlfriend, thank-you-very-much. Although she was currently missing, he still liked to think that didnât change much. But still, he hadnât had this kind of problem since before he left his Garden. Stark blue eyes wandered the room, finally catching a few nervously meaningful glances from some of the girls. He wasnât very good at reading the room when it came to that, so he felt a wave of appall rush over him.
âStarting rumours isnât gonna help anything, either.â He finally mumbled, tearing his eyes away before he caught a few aggravated looks from the boys in the class. Dammit, not this again. He was just lucky Seifer wasnât here, or heâd be starting shit left and right. âHow is that remotely being normal? I--âconfusion swept his muted features as he pinched the bridge of his nose again, realizing the situation was socially dire. And he was as adept at being social as a fish was at breathing out of water. â...Look, I appreciate the advice. But Iâm not sure itâs appropriate. Besides, I gotta focus on my homework.â Squall settled on playing the dumb, good student instead. Like he used to be. It was all he knew, and itâd be his saving grace. Or so he hoped. âWhat class do we have next, anyways?â he asked, attempting to shift the conversation way from the obvious sexual attraction thing and commandeer it back to intel.Â

An Unexpected Arrival
@aeniqmataâ
Damn, this was uncomfortable. A hand rose to subconsciously trace his mouth as he watched the foreign education. Or rather, only partially paid attention to it. His Majesty was concerned about Prince Noctis being out by himself, but nobody in the Crownsguard was âyoungâ enough to play the role of a guardian whilst the Prince was still attending school. Noctis had long since refused a detail of guards when he first began going to public school, wanting some semblance of normalcy. Squall could understand that, having grown up in an orphanage himself. âNormalâ was better than the alternative. But still, Drautos had called him âpretty enough to be a high school kid,â and Squall wanted to punch him in the teeth.Â
So here he was, more than against his will, back in school after he thought heâd finally escaped. Having a military education himself, this easy-going, civilian school was giving him the creeps. Where were the strategy sessions? The weapon schematics on the board? The practice pincer techniques? Nothing. Just some guy droning on about what a bunch of famous, dead kings did in the past. Being a civilian was more dangerous than he thought, if this was what they were learning. Pinching the bridge of his nose, his gaze wandered back to Noctis, looking down at the shorter man from where he sat.Â
King Regis had to have a reason for sending him out to watch his back like this, in the most literal of senses. His Majesty knew Squall was nothing but a military dog, after all. If he didnât expect a fight, he wouldnât have sent someone like him. So his senses were on high alert, flashing from paying mild attention to the teacher, to memorizing the faces around him, to watching the princeâs six. It had only been less than a day, but he was already impatient.
A bell sounded, snapping him out of his vigilance. He jumped a little, unused to sounds like that meaning anything other than an enemy attack. Shoulders slumping as the initial defense slipped from him, he leaned back in his seat, crossing his arms over his broad chest. He wasnât here to talk, and he knew the other students wouldnât leave him be unless he acted like he did back when he was younger. So he put on that off-putting, dead expression on his face, raising his hackles to prevent anyone from interrupting what he was doing.Â

Though the man was decidedly expressionless, displeasure twisted deep within his core. Seriously? What the hell was so important that theyâd force him to drop everything and go now? Well, he didnât like the sound of it, thatâs for sure. Something felt a little fishy. Either that, or his âfatherâ was being unreasonable again. Calloused hands rose to pinch the bridge of his nose, and he threw the letter he held haphazardly against his desk. The faintest hint of a sigh flew from his stoic lips, and he paused his pinching to rub at his temples. Well, if he was to go, he might as well take Xu with him. Something wasnât sitting right in his gut; things had been pretty calm for the last five years.
Sure, they were still cleaning up after the moon incident, and the beasts were fierce. But a few well-trained SeeD could handle the mess. The Sorceress was dead, and Rinoa hadnât gone insane. Yet? It was hard to say, but she held her own well enough. Things were moderately peaceful for the first time in years. So where was the fire? Sucking in a slow, steadying breath, he lowered his hand and flickered his gaze over to the woman in question. It wasnât like they both werenât busy. Thatâs why they were in the office to begin with. What a pain.
âLieutenant,â he called, voice only sounding slightly irritated. Heâd both let go of his walls and grown more mature over the years. âSomethingâs wrong.â Squall said immediately, raising his thumb to brush under his bottom lip. Leaning back in his seat, he gripped the previously abandoned letter and got up. Meandering over almost stiffly due to his sheer aggravation, he shook his head and tossed the letter down onto her desk, giving her a few moments of silence. It read as follows:
âDear Commander Leonhart;
We are pleased to inform you that your last A-rank job within Esthar territory went splendidly. Weâre rebuilding the array as we speak, and the SeeD you sent to guard the process have been nothing but helpful. How have you been feeling, by the way? Okay? Are you eating enough? There I go, rambling again. Anyways, Garden leaders have called a meeting in Esthar, and youâve been formally summoned. Political leaders from Galbadia will also be there. Iâm told the meeting is quite important, and theyâve requested my presence, as well. But for some reason, they havenât told me anything? I donât even know what itâs about. But I donât want to piss off Galbadia, so I guess Iâm going, too. Anyways, donât forget to sleep some time. The meeting is tomorrow night. See you then! Best Regards, Laguna Loire.â
â... Weâre going to Esthar. Iâm taking you with me.â
