I learned from the comments on my shell videos that a lot of people think that 1) seashells just appear and don’t come from animals, or 2) the animals who make seashells leave them when they get too big

According to this book review, "Most people thought they were stones." And a lot of people have commented, in various degrees of jokiness, that they "just spawn" or "come in different sizes" or "are idk a type of rock?"

I do understand just...not ever having thought about where something comes from. Or feeling like it just sorta appears. How many of us know where dust comes from?

Admittedly, I remember as a kid seeing some pictures of an abandoned building and thinking "well it couldn't be that abandoned because it doesn't have graffiti. The longer something has been hidden away from humans, the more graffiti it...wait..."

Subtly my brain had interpreted graffiti as something that appeared in the absence of humans...instead of directly because of humans...
