In order to obtain sufficient nutrition, vampires sometimes must drink up to 60% of their body weight before flying home. That is the equivalent of a 150lb human eating 90lbs of food in one meal! - Merlin Tuttle's "Secret Life of Bats".
Something amusing to me painting v!Scott as a vampire bat. It is not a very elegant or beautiful creature by most standards, but it does have a silly charm. The cup is based on a 14th centaury Mazer, a ceremonial wooden cup ornamented with a gold or silver band.

Merlin Tuttle’s Bat Conservation / Bat Conservation International
Part 2 of my bat forms of Vampires smp! (Part 1 here: link) These are not as firm as the first batch, but I still had a fun time figuring them out!
Drift: Common Blossom Bat- an almost pure nectarivore with a well developed sense of smell and sight, I think this form would work great for finding out who left that orchid at her doorstep. Maybe a bigger bat than this one would work better in fitting with the whole (no fear) thing, but there are many fruit bats that are also nectarivores.
Owen: White-Winged Vampire Bat- an elusive and arboreal vampire bat with the big brown eyes. Still definitely not dead set on this one, but there are only like 3 actual blood-drinking bat species.
Martyn: Parti-Colored Bat- Martyn was a drifter, never staying in place long enough to be caught for his crimes. So I picked a migratory bat, and this one is known to occassionally get lost on oil rigs. XD It also has white stripes in its fur like Martyn's second form
Ren: Bonda Mastiff Bat: ok I can't resist the dog pun with the Mastiff name. Mastiff as in the dog are known as a loyal and protective breed, though I don't think the bats share in personality. If you want to go wild with the ears, then look up the Western Mastiff Bat. (there are also Lesser/Greater Bulldog bats, Dog faced bats, and many other Mastiff bats)
Legundo: Mauritian Tomb Bat- I can't exactly place why Tomb bats remind me of vsmp!Legundo. The Mauritian does have soft brown-grey fur and its face is rather bald. He did go to many tombs to try and find the cure.
Louis: Spectacled Flying Fox- I think a fruit bat fits with the more peaceful Louis, and the running joke of Louis being taller than Owen (This one can get to 2 lbs (1000g) vs vampire bats are like 2oz (50g)). They also have a lovely white mane which doesn't show up in the picture.
So I've been very slowly on making the VSMP characters into bats on my art blog and I figured I share my species headcanons for the cast. Credits will be in image description and links will go to the image. Part two
Scott: Common Vampire Bat- I always figured vsmp!Scott would be a traditionalist and enjoys the fear this bat inspires. Plus this bat is known for being sneaky since they have to be to get their large prey.
Avid: Silver-Haired Bat -one of the few bats known to sing! They also have a silvery-tipped hair which reminded me of Avid's level 2 form.
Cleo: Eastern Red Bat- I mostly chose this one because of the fur color (which is more prominent in males). These bats have twins to quadruplets, which makes them super moms in the bat world (a cheeky nod to being like her mom and trying to help the other new vamps out)
Pearl: Grey-Headed Flying Fox- a native to Australia with a wolf-ish face. I also think a fruit bat fits her no-kill unless you kill attitude. (second option for more matchie-colors: Lyle's Flying Fox)
Apo: Great Fruit-Eating bat- Fruit bat as a play on the apple name, but also her fear of blood. Got to have the white stripe like her level 2 form. Plus a bit of play on revulsion of being a vampire, one that looks like Scott's bat form.
Shelby: Lesser False Vampire Bat- called vampires due to appearance rather than relation to Vampire bats, I figured she would want more the look of being a vampire. They have well-developed eyes-a nod to her not needing glasses, and large ears- good for bigfoot catching! (Heart-nosed bat another good option)
Abolish: Spotted Bat-like Cleo, mostly a pick because of black and white colors. The large ears would be perfect for spying, and they are known for having unusually low frequency in their calls- allowing them to approach their prey undetected.
Pyro: Greater Noctule Bat- the songbird slayer, a fitting title for one who killed Avid, yes? Debated heavily about giving this one to Owen, but I feel like Pyro wanted the power and control of the kill.
Sausage: Spectral Bat- his character always felt larger than life and relished in becoming a vampire, so I feel a large (largest of the New World) and predatory bat would fit this persona. Though I fear I may not know enough about this character, so feel free to correct me.
