Lipstick For Leelah

Lipstick for LeeLah is a social media movement to help raise awareness and money to support Trans* issues. If you support Trans* rights, take a photo of yourself wearing lipstick and then tag your friends to do the same. If you are tagged you may choose to make a donation to ‘Lipstick for Leelah Fund’, http://gofund.me/lipstickforleelah or snap a photo of yourself with Lipstick with a piece of paper that says ‪#‎LipstickforLeelah‬ and tag more friends. The money raised will be given out to Trans* outreach and advocacy groups on a twice yearly basis. The allocation of funds will be overseen by an independent group of Trans* leaders from all over the country. Preference will be given to direct action projects with high schools and colleges.

What a difference 3 years can make!

In the picture on the left I was preparing myself to come out to my parents as transgender. My stomach was in knots, I had lost 10 pounds that semester due to stress, I wasn’t sleeping well, panic attacks were a weekly event, and gender dysphoria plagued my ever waking moment. 

In the picture on the right I stand strong and proud of the man I have become. Recovering from top surgery with the support and love from my family that not all trans* individuals are blessed with, I am preparing to graduate college and enter the world with the intent to make it better. 

These photos are my pledge to every trans* kid out there that I will make the world better for you, or at least I will die trying to do so.

Transgender people are the most oppressed in the LGBTQ community. What has happened to Leelah Alcorn sadly happens all the time, and we need more awareness about issues like these. Refer to someone to the gender and pronouns they prefer to be referred to, it really isn’t that hard.
