random but here is a recipe for cold peanut noodles that you can make during hot weather because i just ate this and had a fantastic time
2tbsp of peanut butter. a splash of rice vinegar, soy sauce, sesame oil, maple syrup. some chili flakes, some sesame seeds. a splash of water to thin it out. now you put in your noodles (cooled!!!! boiled and rinsed so they’re cold!!) and then some chopped up cucumber or carrot or avocado or cabbage or any crunchy vegetable. i just used cucumber
you can also put in lime juice or herbs or sriracha or grated garlic/ginger or anything like that; tofu/tempe/meat for more protein etc. noodle wise this can be ramen soba udon whatever, i used soba. enjoy homies
Heres some more Project Hail Mary comics, just for fun!

“When I was young, women were raped on the campus of a great university and the authorities responded by telling all the women students not to go out alone after dark or not to be out at all. Get in the house. (For women, confinement is always waiting to envelope you.) Some pranksters put up a poster announcing another remedy, that all men be excluded from campus after dark. It was an equally logical solution, but men were shocked at being asked to disappear, to lose their freedom to move and participate, all because of the violence of one man.”

…Wow…it’s sad how much this blew my mind. Brilliant.
Where’s that one post that’s like Reasons Why My Wife Cried This Week and when are we gonna get a fanfic of that but Ryland Grace.
Reasons my human has cried:
* New student, very small. Grace said it was pebble. Pebble is small Earth rock. Pebble likes name.
* He found out Eridians have no gender rules.
* Students brought him mineral sample. After he stopped crying he said he loves show-and-tell game. Human naming conventions oddly literal.
* I told him Earthsun grew bright.
* I took him up atop atmosphere bypass elevator to look at stars.
* He woke up from nap and found me still with him. I did not wait on his chest; he says I am heavy like “elephant” and he “couldn’t breathe.” I laid my arm over him instead, kept him close, feeling safe. He said “cuddle” was warm.
* Before class he heard younglings singing.
* He has plants in house from sprouts on ship. Plant grew “bud.”
* Engineers got seawater temperature right. He took off shoes and stood in water, sighing. He didn’t care about pants getting damp. Cried until shirt was also damp. Humans very endlessly wet.
* He missed “Doritos.”
* Adrian helped food scientists make taumoeba dried paste. Made it crunchy after heating. We fused it into triangle form. Told him it was Tauritos. That made him laugh-cry. Laugh-cry is rare and precious.
* He remembered Eridians have no gender rules.
* We made him celebration outfit. Used metals he calls pretty. He can see frequencies named “colorful” and “shiny.” These make humans happiest.
* I gave him hug when he wasn’t expecting it. Easier to hug close now with exosuit. Hug when Grace sitting down so he does not fall over.
* Told him to think long time, stay with me as long as he can.
i keep laughing at the way that eridian culture in the movie and eridian culture in the book are not contradictory at all, if you accept that movie rocky is just a total FREAK
grace: boy i sure can't wait to meet other eridians haha! rocky, putting on a shirt for the first time in four years: rocky has something to tell grace but does grace promise not to be mad, question?
I can't leave this in the tags lmaooo

“I thought she was sleeping until I heard her call out from across the room, “Will you bring me a glass of water?” I did. Then in her always-sleepy tone and drawl she said, “Do you remember when you were a little girl and you would ask your mama to bring you a glass of water?” Yeah. “You know how half the time you weren’t even thirsty. You just wanted that hand that was attached to that glass that was attached to that person you just wanted to stay there until you fell asleep.” She took the glass of water that I brought her and just sat it down full on the table next to her. Wow, I thought. What am I gonna do with love like this.”

Eva Stratt does NOT need a redemption arc. Eva Stratt did EVERYTHING WRONG so that no-one else would have to. Her hands are permanently stained with blood so humanity gets to keep on living.
I also feel like a redemption arc isn’t really something that can happen to her. Not because she isn‘t worthy of redemption or because she hasn‘t done anything wrong, but…
I think for a redemption arc I‘d expect a character to have done bad things for bad reasons, some kind of view of life that gave the character the vindictive pleasure to do other‘s harm or that made the character feel superior and in the right to not consider what harm he is doing. The redemption arc includes them unlearning these thought patterns, so they can start making amends and doing the right thing. Or maybe they were in the dark about their actions supporting something sinister and once they learn how they contributed to harm they work hard to undo it.
Stratt wasn’t in the dark though. Neither was she doing it with the goal to harm.
Stratt didn‘t find any pleasure in nuking the Antarctic. She didn‘t hold a personal grudge towards penguins. Yes, she did place the existence of penguins below all other life on earth in this instance, but it was more out of circumstance.
And in another situation she placed Grace‘s life below all other life on earth and very much violated his personal freedom and it was very wrong, illegal and morally reprehensible. She knew that going in, she didn‘t enjoy it and she knew she‘d - somewhat rightfully - go to prison. I don‘t think there‘s anything for her to unlearn though, to change her and make her go on what I‘d expect to see in a classical redemption arc.
She recognised some truly awful stuff needed to be done in order to save life on our planet and that nobody else was going to do it. And she did them and many people will never forgive her - and some of them will have a right to never forgive her.
But I don‘t think a redemption arc is something that she needs nor is it something she can truly go through. She‘s good where she is (and I think she also knows that and would be unwilling to redeem herself to anybody, except perhaps Grace)
Speaking of pitt misogyny, I was surprised to see not one, not two, but three dynamics where a patient flirted with a female healthcare worker played off. First Mel, who gets obliviously flirted with by her patient who then got arrested, but then she says it was nice to get treated like that. Then Cassie, who ends up offering to meet a man that she’s treating later because “she needs to get laid”. And finally and most creepily for me, Duke and Nurse Vivi. (Enough said with that one)
Sexual assault and sexual harassment of healthcare workers is a serious issue. The show dynamics in which it’s treated as either a joke or a compliment just gives me the ick
These moments put me off so much. I‘ve had plenty of uncomfortable situations with male patients, but also with male doctors. In some of them, I felt genuinely ganged up on by the doctor and the patient. All of my female friends from med school have their own stories to tell.
One friend was recently shadowing and her attending kept making advances at her. She didn‘t want to tell him to back off, because she didn’t want to be iced out from any teaching moments.
My brother worked as a nurse for a while and also had patients make sexual comments at him. (Looking at you, Myrna. She was a funny character, sure, but just because she’s an older woman and her comments were played for laughs, and the Pitt team seemed familiar and mostly unbothered with her, doesn‘t really change the fact that it was sexual harassment.)
The Myrna thing is an interesting comparison imo, because while her antics were played for laughs, they were played for laughs in a way that seemed obviously at her expense. Robby and Whitaker weren't super bothered by it, but they weren't seeking out her attention or feeling flattered by getting it. It seemed clear that her targeting Robby was harassment, and it seemed clear that Whitaker was taken aback about her hitting on him and wanted to avoid her.
Vs. (as you note in your tags) the old man who just would not stop hitting on McKay, and that being framed more like he was being sweet and harmless and that she enjoyed the attention to some degree.
Yeah that‘s true, I suppose.
The men got to say no thank you to Myrna, while the women had to „enjoy“ their harassment.
I still found Myrna a bit bothersome bc patients like her can still be uncomfortable to deal with (especially if you’re more inexperienced like Whitaker) and I think sometimes people like to pretend it’s not harassment if it’s a woman doing it to a man. And sure, maybe the laughs were at her expense, but it still made light of an issue both male and female healthcare workers face.
But the responses of Whitaker and Robby to Myrna were definitely quite different compared to anything we saw in s2, and it is telling of a deeper issue rooted in misogyny.
It’s genuinely so weird that they felt the need to include multiple moments like this in s2. McKay had two, Mel and nurse Vivi each had one and all of them were framed weirdly positive.
“you could have been more selfish, asshole.”
au where years have passed and colt never got answers about why ryland abandoned him to play hero for everyone else - when colt needed his brother the most.
