That is exactly what I wanted to tell Olivia last night. I don’t see it for her at all — and that saddens me because she used to always be my fave (or right after Fitz, as they switch back and forth for me at times, with them at times sharing the #1 spot). I can let s2b go…but that shit in s3a? Hell the fuck no. And it’s just getting worse in s3b. Last night, I had the epiphany that I’m HAPPY the second half was shortened 4 episodes. HAPPY. Ain’t that some shit?
The opening scene (which, thanks, I guess, because I feel like that’s the most Kerry Washington has spoken all season on her own damn show), was good in that Olivia — Olivia who knows she has issues and has stated such, but for some reason doesn’t try to get those issues worked on like she had some damn sense — finally spoke about what she was feeling (which, she really should have done in 2.22, but I’ll get to that later). But…girl…for real? You really fucked Fitz for however long you did, but get mad because he’s not here for your little fake relationship with Joke? Fitz can’t even be in his feelings without you brushing him off? (Also, Fitz can earn you — aka, like a prize — but you can’t be won? Do you hear how fucking contradictory your crazy ass sounds??? Thanks to salemgirl0625 for pointing this out!).
Like…Olivia was acting like Fitz was wrong for feeling the way he felt and as if it was some hardship to be there. Yea, I can imagine that it’s hard walking around with people gawking and laughing. But here’s my thing. Olivia was so ready and willing to be THAT person in 1.07 and in 2.21 — she was ready. The same shit would have happened then, so…. It makes me wonder how she would have dealt with it then. I don’t think she would have been all in. All of the stares and laughter and gawking would have gotten to her and she would have left Fitz. She’s not ready —- which, fine, but stop acting like you are when you aren’t. Also? She was legit acting like it was a hardship to be there with Fitz! (when, it probably wasn’t a hardship to be bouncing on his dick). Also, Fitz doesn’t make everything about him — every one around him makes everything about Fitz. So tired of it.
(Sidebar: Has anyone noticed that Olivia uses the men who like/love her to do all of these grandiose favors for her? And she STAYS with a damn attitude when asking for these ridiculous favors. And, I don’t recall seeing any of these dudes ask Olivia, with her connections, to do anything for them. Just saying…)
Then, Olivia lets Mellie talk to her any type of way again. We already knew that it would be (or at least for now) appear that Mellie was a saint who resisted temptation unlike the evil jezebel Olivia Pope (really Shonda? She so does not give a fuck about racial dynamics no matter what she says and I really wish people who stop acting like she does). I don’t give a fuck if Olivia opened her legs for Fitz. What Olivia should have said was “yes I did — and don’t act like you didn’t want me to because you turned a blind eye and tried to get me to do it many times over” and walked away. When the fuck will Olivia clap back at Mellie, when Mellie is dead and buried?? FOH
Then, you got Huck telling Olivia about herself. Which, yes, he had some salient points, points that many of us have made. Huck is clearly crazy, Olivia uses his craziness when it suits her; so for her to essentially leave Quinn with him really showed the whole “I’m their gladiator” bullshit is really that — bullshit. I knew it was bullshit when Olivia said that nonsense in 2.22. Don’t get me wrong — this is not about Olitz breaking up again per se. As I’ve always said (and y’all know I’m damn consistent in my POV), if Olivia didn’t want to be FLOTUS and wasn’t gung ho about it like Fitz, cool. BUT SAY THAT SHIT. Don’t use Bebe’s Kids as a fucking scapegoat and an opportunity to martyr yourself for these motherfuckers instead of TELLING THE MAN YOU CLAIM TO LOVE THE TRUTH. You wanna talk about leaving to take care of these grown ass people, yet 3/4 of them are even WORSE off! Harrison is getting his dick wet, but down he has to launder money and maybe be getting back into some “Clear Water” bullshit (which I don’t give a damn about because we know they can’t write cogent mysteries and they need to just stop. Huck is off choking the shit out of you and pulling peoples teeth out. Quinn has turned b613 and is killing people and spying on people and her life is just fucked. So, girl, this is what you martyred yourself for? It barely seems like you care about these people! And, on top of that, though Huck had some points, YOU STILL HAVEN’T CHECKED HIS ASS ABOUT CHOKING THE SHIT OUT OF YOU!!!
Olivia what the fuck is wrong with you? I feel like she only gets hype to clap back at Fitz — and not the people who actively fuck you over! You let Cyrus and Mellie talk to you ANY FUCKING TYPE OF WAY. Huck choked you with no fucking reprisal. Jake put your ass in the hospital but you feel safe with him and “may” have feelings for him…But Fitz, the only person who holds you down without question, never laid hands on you, loves you, and has done ILLEGAL things FOR YOU — you check him more than a “yes” “no” or “maybe” box. Girl, Fitz is not a damn scantron card!!
Olivia, time and time again, comes off as wishy washy, indecisive, weak in that she refuses to stand up for herself against anyone, etc etc. I just…everyone cannot be perfect. I don’t expect Clair Huxtable from Olivia. But, for me, Olivia is exhibiting way more negative and side eye worthy qualities (and not stuff that gives her depth or nuance) than anything good and it’s old, tired, stale and lame now.
And, despite all of this fuckery, I could MAYBE deal if it was ALWAYS clear that Olivia Pope was always the focus, things truly led back to her, etc etc. But she’s not. She’s become a secondary character on her own fucking show. She’s a second class citizen in favor of SR’s favs with dead eyes and shrill voices. I don’t fucking GET IT. Ugh.
As I said on Twitter, I’ve poured a whole lot of liquor out for the show Scandal used to be — because this is not what I fell in love with, or hyped up to random people at work (which led me to converting a whole bunch of people into “gladiators”).
[I know some off y’all think the whole loud yelling in the beginning and the tape at the end was a set up — though I question that, because these mofos over here yelling about fixing elections all loud spilling all types of IMPORTANT tea about themselves — but I have no confidence in the way this show is written. It could be…and I thought about it myself…but I don’t know. Even if this was all a rouse, most of my OP gripes still stand.]
