Suddenly struck with a need to explain to you how boat pronouns work (I work in the marine industry).

When you're talking about the design of the boat, you say "it".

When the boat is still being built, your say "it".

When the boat is nearing completion, you can say "it" or "she".

When the boat is floating in the water you probably say "she", unless there is still a lot of work to be done (e.g. no engine yet) then you say "it".

When the boat is officially launched and operating, you say "she". If you continue to say "it" at this point you are not incorrect but suspiciously untraditional. You are not playing the game.

If you are referring to a boat you don't really know anything about you may say "it" ("there's a big boat, it's coming this way"). But if you know its name, it's probably "she" ("there's the Waverley, she's on her way to Greenock").

If you are talking about boats in general, you say "it" ("when a boat is hit by a wave it heels over")

If you speak about a boat in complimentary terms, it's "she" ("she's a grand boat"). If you are being disparaging it may be it, but not necessarily ("it's as ugly as sin", "she's a grotty old tub").

If she has a boy's name, she's still she. "Boy James", "King Edward", "Sir David Attenborough"? The pronoun is she.

If it's a dumb barge (no engine), you say it. But if it's a rowing boat (no engine), you say she.

I hope this has cleared things up so that you may not be in danger of misgendering floating objects.

But TLDR, in a lot of ways, I am terrified of Large Language Models, which popculture is now calling AI (as if we didn't have many other types of AI before it). For many of my own reasons. I don't think that all the fear-mongering about it is useful or plausible. But I very much understand being uncomfortable about it. And when I'm scared of something, I make art about it. And yes, I use local LLM sometimes to make that art, or use stuff people I trust to use it in a way sufficiently ethical for me, have donated to me. Purposefully exposing myself in ways I can control to scary things is... how I process? I've recently made it much harder to even find the eyedolgames.com (an in-universe website run by an arguably evil corporation) stuff, which is where I put my sorta vent art about AI. Cuz yeah, I get that not everyone wants to engage with that. The things I've made with LLM are going to stay, because they have a very particular purpose for me. The vast majority of my work (which kinda has been nothing but Zampanio or related fandoms for years now) lately, doesn't use LLM/gen ai at all. And hopefully its clear that I didn't use any at all for the homestuck fan works I made before I got into Zampanio. And...how to put it... Zampanio is very much about not *replacing* or removing anything, just always burying it under more and more things. I like that about it.

I was never really using llm because i had no other options, you know?

i bought stock photos for Zampanio North, for example, for the CCTV stuff. (if you know you know)

Instead its to make art about enshitification. I made Zampanini because I got spooked by doordash showing me weird food, and its only gotten worse, for example.

I made jackElope because of how shit dating sites have gotten.

I made the Quotidian Adoption site when looking for kittens myself and having to sift through all the scams and fake pets.

My goal wasnt just "creepy", though yeah, obviously that, too. It was to create something that captured how I felt to increasingly not be able to trust the Internet, when it had been my refuge. For a website to look me into the eyes and say "You like this, right? You'll pay more money because we are doing this to you?". To create art about that being the point, about it being an interconnected alien mind performing "human" at me to try to please me... Without having any understanding of why that is hurting people...

The best method to determine if a group is a cult, in my opinion, is Steven Hassan’s (cult expert and former cult member himself) BITE model.

BITE stands for Behavior Control, Information Control, Thought Control, and Emotional Control.

The more points a group “scores” on the model, the more of a cult it is.

I think this model is the best one for several reasons:

It’s more nuanced than “cult” or “not cult” and doesn’t make false equivalences between groups

It’s versatile, applying to groups big and small, and cults of all kinds, religious, political, financial, etc.

It focuses on what’s important, which is what the cult does to its members, and those members’ experiences, and not on irrelevant details like how uncommon their doctrines are or whether they have a charismatic leader

It’s tricky with parenting, because parents have to control their children’s lives to start with, since newborns are incapable of taking care of themselves.
