NOT ENOUGH LOVE ON HERE FOR EDISON CASTILE.
Anya Chalotra as ‘Yennefer’ and Freya Allen as ‘Ciri’ on the set of the Witcher, Season 2.
After her first full night of sleep in Alexandria, Lissa was idly chatting with Mia over breakfast, planning the day ahead. Her first stop, of course, was Adrian's, wishing to check in with him after her abrupt exit the evening before. She then aimed to visit the training centre, as Eggsy had, to see the guardians, knowing her tearful reunions were far from over. Which then freed up her evening entirely for Rose. As much as she'd love to spend the whole week by her best friend's bedside, she knew it'd be a hindrance to the nurses who were caring for her. Rose needed rest, and space, to heal. Once she was dressed, Lissa wasted no time in beginning the walk to Adrian's house. Luckily, she had Mikhail to guide her, as she ran the risk of getting lost otherwise. He'd already memorised the town's layout, and scouted the perimeter, wanting to assess Alexandria's safety for himself. He hadn't said anything, but he seemed satisfied. He came to a halt, however, when they reached her cousin's residence, and it took Lissa a moment to discover why. There was a guardian standing outside. A dhampir, with a very familiar face. "Oh my goodness. — Eddie?!" With a complete disregard to the fact that he was clearly on duty, Lissa flung herself at him, her arms wide in embrace. "You really are here! I can't believe it."

Rose thought she'd uncovered every possible downside to her endless insomnia, experiencing a myriad of frustrations over the years. But she'd been wrong, because she hadn't ever considered being ill. What would it be like to try and heal when you couldn't sleep, when you were unable to escape the pain with periods of rest? They'd tried drying her out but she'd only grown more sick. Only a consistent flow of morphling kept her in a state that mimicked sleep, and would've knocked any other being unconscious. There she floated on the river of drugs, trying to convince herself she really was dreaming, that the medicine was carrying her away. The infirmary became a blurry mix of lights, beeps and low chatter. The staff were yet to perform any blood tests, all wildly out of their depth when it came to understanding non-humans. Weeks of drug use and alcohol abuse might've explained most of her symptoms, but she hadn't seemed to improve, not with time nor fluids. And the pain was unexplainable. Rose had never felt so sick in her life, not even when she'd been away from Wanda. When she wasn't almost unconscious, she was vomiting, and then came the nurses, instantly returning to fill her up on fluids again. Not once had she considered this fate when she'd fallen back in with Adrian, fallen back in with drugs and shirking all responsibility. Just for a moment, she hadn't wanted to be herself, had needed to escape it all. But that moment had turned into weeks, had become a hole she hadn't realised she'd fallen into. There'd been a moment of clarity a few hours into her hospital stay, when the first bag of morphling had run dry and before the nausea had returned. Rose had called for Melissa, shame hanging onto every word as she pitifully begged the nurse not to let anyone in. She didn't want any visitors, couldn't let anyone see her in this state, couldn't let them work out what she'd been doing. Tentatively, the woman had agreed, and Rose had upended the contents of her stomach once more. Hours later, she'd convinced Rose to let her take some bloods, and she supposed it was for the greater good but it only made her feel dizzy, inexplicably drowsy yet never able to sleep. Rose shut her eyes once more, humming to herself, sounds of the infirmary droning on around her. Rose?! Her eyelids twitched, the only acknowledgement of the voice. She'd know it anywhere, but that didn't make it real. It wasn't the first time she'd imagined it. She obviously wasn't asleep, so it was just the blood loss, the illness, the drugs still in her system. Rose, it's me. She couldn't understand why, though. Was her mind just seeking comfort? A scolding? A reality check? "Not a good time, Liss," she muttered, trying to dismiss the hallucination. "You can tell me off later."
It had been a little over a day since Alicante's latest fugitive group had entered Alexandria's gates, and although Lissa was fatigued from the journey, she had no desire to rest. She'd reunited with Adrian first, spirit guiding her to him, but he'd barely been comprehensible. Last time she'd spoken to her cousin, during the dream he'd created, he'd seemed healthy. Happy, even. Of course her delivering the news of his Aunt Tatiana's death would've changed that, but Lissa hadn't expected him to resort immediately back to drug use to cope with the intensity of his grief. When she'd tried to question it further, he'd muttered something about Eddie and then dismissed her entirely.
Lissa had remained with him anyway, cradling him as she cried, unsettled by the darkness shrouding his aura. Spirit users were meant to burn gold, but Adrian had been tainted by an intense, deep blue. Over an hour passed before he'd settled, and then he spoke her name. Rose. In an instant, Lissa's entire body ran cold. Of course, it'd always been a possibility. That somehow she'd made it. Rose had forever been strong enough to spit in the face of adversity, to defy death itself. But Lissa had never allowed herself to wonder, to pray, or to hope. In fact, she'd barely allowed herself to think about Rose at all. Those wonders coincided with a pain so unbearable it mirrored Adrian's own.
Getting an explanation from Adrian was intensely frustrating, considering his mental state, and it was the first time Lissa's patience had worn thin with him, suddenly feeling the pressures of time. Eventually, he managed to slur out the word 'hospital'. She kissed him goodbye and ran out the door, shaky legs barely carrying her. Luckily, in the few instances in which she stumbled, Mikhail was there to steady her. He followed silently behind, having been trained never to question a royal, but he clearly understood the importance, even without all of the information. Lissa would fill him in later, as well as offer her gratitude.
The nurses were reluctant to allow her in, which was to be expected, as they were protective over their patients. Uncharacteristically, Lissa had to use compulsion to gain access. Vervain carried through the town's water supply, but herbs were no deterrent for Spirit, and neither were a match for the bond she had with her best friend. Although it'd only been minutes since she'd left Adrian's, it felt like hours until she was finally where she needed to be.
The ward was quiet, and solitary, and Lissa shivered as she passed through the doors, as if she could somehow feel Rose before she'd even seen her. But as soon as she did, Lissa's breath left her body, stunted by disbelief. "Rose?" Her best friend was clearly on the verge of unconsciousness, battling with an illness Lissa didn't understand. She felt her heart break as she approached, slow in her movements, still struggling to accept this as reality. "Rose, it's me." Evidently, their dissociation was shared, and Lissa laughed through her tears at the response she was given. "I'm not here to scold you. Not yet," she teased, wiping the dampened hair away from Rose's forehead.
"Mikhail, Eggsy, Ciri, Harley, Mia and I escaped Alicante. It was Mia's idea, if you can believe it. But that's a story for another time," she explained softly, pulling up a chair, and allowing Rose a moment to process. "Right now, I just want to be with you, and help you get better. I've missed you so much. If I'd have known..." Lissa shook her head, dismissing herself. "I love you, Rose. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to find you and tell you that."
