Winter Jamz
Some different stuff & new discoveries (thanks spotify) this time. If you have the time, I recommend the youtube playlist- I substituted a couple of live versions where I could. Kvelertak might be the best show I've ever seen, Pete and I are going to see them again when they open for Mastodon in May. They are batshit Norwegians.
P.S. I finally figured out how the internet works.
Electric Wire Hustle
Direct from Wellington - it's future hip hop/soul/good
Ace Is High
Remember when Bill and Ted were excited about being sent to the iron maiden? This is why.
The Fall time song list by Tim
Hello friends. Here we go.
Youtube
Spotify
Arcade Fire "Reflektor" from Reflektor
Four Tet "Your Body Feels" from Beautiful Rewind
St. Vincent "Cruel" from Strange Mercy
Caribou "Bees" from The Milk of Human Kindness
Radiohead "Gagging Order" from Com Lag ep
More to come, I think.
I miss this.
Father John Misty, “I Love You, Honeybear”
Got to hear this live last night at his solo show at the Vic. He performed 7-8 new songs whilst standing behind a giant cutout of an iPhone. It was very meta.
Grizzly Bear, “Will Calls”
Demo that never made it onto Shields. I like it more than anything on Shields.
James Blake, “Retrograde”
I’m seeing this guy next month at the Riv! Creeptastic video.
Tennis, “Mean Streets”
It’s catchy as fuck.
Water Liars, “Cut a Line”
Cut a line for Jesus!

I've been meaning to post something for some time. Just have the spotify playlist above for the moment. I've just culled it together now. I love you all. It's been a great summer. I've seen Grizzly Bear, The Tallest Man on Earth, and Father John Misty. All fantastic fantastic shows.
Oh, hey there
Thought I forgot about you, didn't you?

"Unspoken" - Kylesa
Awesome psych-metal song, pretty cool video too.
"To All of You" - CKY
Yeah, that CKY. This song plays well with the previous one. Mellow but kind of heavy at the same time.
"Stigmata" - Arch Enemy
Instrumental track from a very heavy band. I think most ears would be displeased by their vocals. They have a female singer (growler?) these days. Rare bird, indeed.
"Keep Your Eyes Peeled" - Queens of the Stone Age
Speaking of Josh Homme (yeah I know, 4 months ago), the new album is well worth a listen or twelve.
"DLZ" - TV on the Radio
Yes, this is entirely due to Breaking Bad. Stay out of my territory.
"The Windswept Mercy" - Soilwork
These guys are pretty metalcore-y, but I really like the double album they put out this year. Standouts in a generally crappy sub-genre.
Bonus track! "Busted" - Ron Isley (only on youtube playlist, the video is a must watch)
Go upstairs and get your shit, and get the fuck up out of here. Classic.
From Source: "Ed Sullivan didn't want Buddy Holly to perform Oh Boy! on his show. He wanted a ballad. Holly refused to obey. This performance is poetic justice in regards to how awesome Buddy Holly was. Buddy was one of the few defiant rock acts at the time to get into an artistic scuffle with Ed. Sullivan mispronounces a rock legend's name, cuts his guitar line by 50% and Buddy begins screaming his lyrics, checking volume and goes into a 50's speed metal chorus while banging his head in energetic defiance with the hard drum beat. His show was so electric that Sullivan was forced to invite Buddy back. Buddy declined."
It's pretty awesome to watch how music, especially Rock has evolved to where it is now.

Coliseum covers Eddie Money
If you enjoy stoner rock like Kyuss, QoTSA and any other band Josh Homme is in
Check out swedish band Truckfighters. They played Wellington last night at an intimate gig (so intimate the guitarist SWEATED on me).
Also, here's Willy Moon, upcoming "superstar" (I think Third Man has signed him)
I actually just put this video up so I can tell the story about how my friend used to hang out with him when they were 15 and massive stoners. They had an air rifle gun and used to shoot native birds. Years later, when his mum was gardening she found a mass grave of all the birds they killed.

Youtube:
Wires by Red Fang: if you're going to watch any of the Youtube videos, it should be this one. Red Fang is an awesome skate-metal band, along the same vein as The Shrine. If you like this one, check out the video for Prehistoric Dog.
Otis by Jay-Z featuring Otis Redding: I came across this song at work by accident and it's grown on me from listening to it every morning. I never would have found a Jay-Z song on it's own.
Ever Lovin' Man by the Dirtbombs: Holy shit do the Dirtbombs have talent. I hope they tour soon because I'd love to see them.
God Only Knows by David Bowie: The Beach Boys would have been better with Charles Manson as a front man (It's a weird chapter in their history). I don't know if they would have been as creepy as when Bowie covered their song. Found this one on Sasha's XM station.
No Other Love by Jo Stafford: I wander to work at 3 in the morning to this music. The streets are dead and everything is creepy when I hear this song.
In My Heart by Heavy Trash: I'm still not sure what to think about this band, but I dig this song.
Can't Keep No Good Boy Down by Parlor Mob: Another gem from a band I haven't taken the time to know.
Say Goodbye to a Dream by the Woggles: It's unfortunately impossible to find this band on Youtube because of a 30 Rock parody of the Wiggles. They're pretty decent though.
Drinking Man by the Shrine: Sasha and I saw the Shrine with Britt recently. I know they loved Graveyard but this was the act that really stood out for me. They have some intense guitar work.
Leave It On The Road by the Black Diamond Heavies: This is the best two piece band in existence, in my opinion. They rock hard.

“I’ll Slip Away” (Rodriguez cover) – Charles Bradley & the Menahan Street Band
Thinking about checking him out (he's a former James Brown impersonator!) when he plays at Metro on 5/9.
“Since I Fell for You” – Nina Simone, from Nina Simone Sings the Blues
“White Girl” - Chicago Stone Lightning Band
“It Serves Me Right to Suffer” – the recently departed Jimmy Dawkins, Chicago bluesman
“Doghouse Blues” – Hollis Brown, Brooklyn act
“Memo from Turner” – Mick Jagger, from the movie “Performance”
I strongly encourage you to watch this video.

"Cut Me Some Slack" - McCartney, Grohl, Novoselic & Smear
If you've ever wondered what Nirvana would have sounded like led by Paul McCartney instead of Kurt Cobain, wonder no more.
"October" - Broken Bells
I was listening to this album again recently, and this song really stuck with me.
"Twilight" - The Band
Reeee-diculously great song from an equally great band. Listen to them.
"Actress" - Jim James
My favorite off a pretty solid album. Check it out if you haven't already. Not sure what the hell's going on with this video, though.
"Reggae Music" - Jimmy Cliff
Get lifted with this history lesson from professor Cliff. I really like his new album, plus one of the songs is a Rancid cover- pretty sweet.
Why can't I figure out how to embed videos in this post? I hate the internet.
It's 2013, and I just woke up.
Folks. Loved ones. Here are some tunes that I have been enjoying of late.
YOUTUBE.
Duke Ellington- "Immigration Blues" from The Beginning volume one (1926-28)
Pretty old recording. Pretty amazing. When I get home, it's really easy and enjoyable to put this record on. Just makes sense for me. Maybe because I'm an immigrant. But probably inspired more by my last three months of watching all three seasons of Treme. Great show. Check it out.
Fiona Apple- "Anything We Want" and "Hot Knife" from The Idler Wheel...
She's great. Love the percussion. Her vocals. Phenomenal.
Atoms for Peace- "Ingenue" from Amok
Haven't listened to the album yet, but this song and video are very enjoyable to me. Very enjoyable.
Bob Dylan- "Shelter From The Storm" from Blood On The Tracks and "When The Ship Comes In" from The Times They Are-a Changin'
"Come in," she said, "I'll give you shelter and prevent your songs from being on youtube." Japanese man does a noble take of it.
Let's all dance together real soon and melt into each other at the end.
Love,
