"Why are you so good when you could be so bad?"
âI consider my immortality a second chance. Besides, who says Iâm good all the time?â Mel smirks, taking a drag of her cig and leaning on her Harley.
He would fight it to his last breath, that feeling of emotion relating to someone elseâs pain. Koschei had been through the worst imaginable torture at the hands of his own people, it was affecting him even now despite having lived with it for centuries. Imagine having a migraine nothing could get rid of, imagine hearing a marching band all night, all day for your entire life. He was only eight when it started, now he couldnât remember ever living without the noise, without the pain..
It was a part of him now.
âSo this is where revenge comes into play,â the Master shrugged it off, as if it didnât affect him in the slightest, âa sudden rise to power! Haha! Watch them squirm under your fist, hm?â
"Is this you?"
Melâs eyes widened as she snatched the photo frame out of The Masterâs hands, protecting it as if it was the most precious thing in the world. In it was her first and last wedding photograph between her and Paul. âWhere⊠where did you find this?â
The Master slowly followed after Mel, crossing the grounds toward his TARDIS, he knew sheâd be experiencing some side effects of the very taboo act they had just performed. Meddling with time was strictly forbidden and with valid reasons, he just didnât care. Opening the doors, he let her walk inside and looked around before slipping into the time machine himself, closing the doors and locking them once more.
He turned to face where Mel was standing, then went to the console and got them out of there. Koschei was curious but he didnât ask her any questions, he figured she would share with him if she was going to.Â
âWell,â he puffed out his chest and grinned broadly, breaking the silence, âthat was fun.âÂ
He laughed.Â
âAnd you, a silly Earth girl, are going to stop me how?â Koschei demanded, âyouâre not even on solid ground anymore, youâre floating around in non-breathable air, suppose I decide to just open those doors and push you out, hm?âÂ
Actually, that did sound like fun..

âI was thinking of rapidly aging the sun,â Koschei answered, âI like those ideas.. But exploding the sun would make a much bigger noise, donât you think?â
"Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!"
âSays who?â he wondered, giving this man a seriously annoyed look, âI suppose now youâre going to try and stop me? Honestly, what is it with you do-gooders showing up to foil my plans every single time?!â
âI donât care how strong you think you are,â the Master scolded Gordon, âbecause I am easily much stronger than any Earth creature.â
But he was far too busy to be cooking meals all the time and grabbing food on the run wasnât always very tasty, so while it was barely a thread of an excuse, he decided on a whim to accept it.Â
âAlright you can stay,â Koschei nodded, âbut it had better be the best food Iâve ever had in my life. Keeping in mind, I am hundreds of years old and Iâve been to just about every planet!â
So he wasnât willing to share his reasons, this irked Koschei just a little because he liked to know everything but it was brief because his lack of giving a damn about others kicked in pretty quickly enough to curb the curiosity for now. His question had been met with a question, rather than an answer and this was slightly annoying but also an opportunity to talk about himself, so he didnât mind too much.
âI suppose I could tell you - again,â the Master sized up this vampire half heartedly and smirked, âstupid Earthling.. I am looking for someone. I told you already. Now, either help me find them or go and play cops ân robbers with all your little friends.â

It didnât matter that the Doctor was struggling harder than ever before, or that he was trying to make his muffled shouts heard by them, the pair had already walked out the door and left the building entirely.
âExactly what we need to do next,â Koschei replied with a slight twist of his neck, âblow something up!â
He gives a giddy childish laugh. âHell yeah! Let us start with a big boom!â
âIt has to be something important,â The Master schemed, âwe need to draw a lot of attention to ourselves if we want to be heard.â
He closed the TARDIS doors, now theyâd be safe from anything outside.
âThis planet seems like the ideal choice,â he grinned, blowing up the Earth with the Doctor still on it seemed like a two for one deal to him.
âWhatâs your name?â
Nick wasnât sure why this man believed someone was about to blow up the Earth but he could sense that the guy wasnât human so he had to take it seriously and believe him for now.Â
âWell if you really want to be that way I could take you back to the precinct for questioning,â Nick countered with an equally as cheeky smile.
âYou can call me the Master,â Koschei replied with a sneer, âyou donât get to know my name, thatâs not how it works.â
He began to circle around Nick slowly, trying to intimidate him. It was not very often that he came across an actual vampire, they were usually very hidden and secretive but this one was not only out on the streets he was also a homicide detective.Â
âI donât understand why you want to go parading around in this little fantasy of yours,â the Master commented, âbut you can leave me out of it. Whatever youâre investigating right now, I had nothing to do with it. Thereâs far more important things for me to be doing.â
Xena couldnât stop staring all around her, this was not the rotting old tree she had seen him walk into. She looked back at the doors when he closed them, disbelief was in her expression the entire time and yet she was seeing this all with her very own eyes.
âItâs an illusion,â she tried to make sense of it, holding her head, âitâs not real, youâre a trickster. A fake!â
The Master didnât like being called a liar or a fake, so he was already scowling at Xena when she started to try and make sense of what she was looking at.Â
âItâs real!â he scolded her firmly, âevery bit of it right down to the last detail is real! Your tiny, little Earth mind just canât handle it!â

Stanley watched from afar as Koschei was causing general mischief. Breaking things, all for the sake of annoying The Doctor. Heâd always been drawn to trouble and violence, so maybe he could learn a thing or two from this TimeLord.
Even though he was doing his best to hide, Stan knew The Master could likely sense his presence. He swore to himself he wouldnât approach - and just observe.
Well why not? He had the Doctor cornered and on the floor, might as well break a few things while he was ranting at how often Theta foiled his plans. The Master was extremely unhappy with the Doctor, but then that was nothing new. As he turned to glare down at Theta and utter an angry phrase at him, slight movement caught his eye and his head snapped around quickly.
âYou didnât tell me you werenât alone, Doctor,â Koschei smirked, âwho is it? One of your silly, little Human companions?â
The Doctor shook his head slowly, worried that someone was going to get hurt because of mistaken identity. âWhoever it is, I donât know them, I swear,â the Doctor panted, injured and unable to get up.

The Master inclined his head curiously and frowned.
âWhy arenât you running?â he wondered, âIâve just told you this planet is going to explode when my weapon hits the sun and causes it to explode, you should be terrified.â
He stepped closer to Todd.
âYou should be scared,â the Master warned him, âIâm certainly not sticking around. If youâve got some kind of escape pod, thatâs where you should be heading. As fast as your little legs can carry you!â
Koschei turned and kept walking, toward a cave where he had hidden his TARDIS.
The Master inclined his head when she approached him, closer just a little, one small step at a time. Strange how things turn around so suddenly, one moment they were at a kind of stand-off, unsure whether or not trust was warranted between them and the next moment they were quiet, subdued and perhaps ready to share something other than taunts or boasts.Â
What happened to Koschei had happened to him on purpose, his own people did this to him and it wasnât so bad at first because the drumming sound was actually very faint. It got louder quite gradually until it was actually very distracting, the louder it got the more he hated it and yet he didnât know what life would be like without it. Too quiet? The noise was so loud now, inside of his head, it was causing him physical pain. Something he kept masked but was easily seen, hidden within his eyes.
She kept coming closer, asking for him to share the experience with her and he just could not understand why anyone would ever want to hear it. She said she believed him but did he believe her? There was only one way to know for sure and maybe itâd work on her, maybe it wouldnât. He slowly looked down at their now joined hands, but this isnât the way to do it. Koschei slid his hands from hers and placed them upon each side of her head, looking into her eyes as if to reassure her that he wouldnât do any harm.
Now he slowly stepped closer, lowered his forehead to meet with hers and closed his eyes.
âListen..â
Nick hesitated, so it wasnât Human after all.Â
âOf course I want to help if thatâs true,â he nodded to the man, âif we work together, it would go a lot faster. But I am going to need more information, how exactly is he plotting to blow up the entire planet? Itâs so big, itâs just not possible.â
He didnât like to think it was at least, but if it involved actual aliens from another world, he supposed anything was possible.
âCan we go somewhere private to discuss this?â Nick asked him, âand no tricks, got it?â
Koschei didnât really want to tell Nick how the Doctor was planning to blow up the Earth, because it was actually his plan and the last thing he needed was someone else knowing about it.Â
âHeâd find a way,â the Master reassured Nick, âwhere do you want to go? Back to my place or yours?â
He was getting quite cheeky now.

âWhatever I want now that I have it back,â Koschei boasted, elated that he finally was inside his TARDIS and able to take full control of anywhere he went once again, âyou donât understand how much this means to me.â
He soon had the TARDIS far away from the military base, away from Earth and everything that Gordon would hold familiar. The Master didnât really care if Ramsay was okay with leaving his planet behind, because he just wanted to get away from it for a while.
âI would drop you off somewhere but, you know..â he shrugged, then thought for a moment and smirked, â..actually, no I wouldnât. I was just being polite.â
Maybe now it was time he started thinking about how to get himself out of this mess, he was in way over his head here. Saving the world wasnât in the job description of being a celebrity chef, despite the fact that Gordon had a heart of gold and wanted to do the right thing.Â
It was getting more and more dangerous as the situation began to quickly escalate, Gordon looked around but could not see any immediate means of escape.Â
âSo what now, huh?â he asked the Master, âwhat are you going to do with a chef? Iâm not exactly equipped for conquering worlds you know, unless youâre going to try and win them over using culinary tactics until they proclaim you their leader.â
The Master shot Gordon a sour faced expression, because he hadnât really thought this far ahead. All heâd needed Ramsay for was access unrestricted to the military base, they all knew Gordon there and didnât think of him as a suspicious person so it had gone quite smoothly. And really boring.
But Koschei didnât know what he was supposed to do with this man, he had served his purpose, so what now?
âI could always jettison you into space,â he shrugged, âif you really are that useless to me, then give me one reason why I shouldnât. Better make it a damn good one, chef.â
Xena watched him walk into a rotting, old tree that had a large hole in it. She looked very confused because she didnât know why heâd want to hide inside of it, let alone call out for her to join him in there. She glanced around, circling the tree and peering inside.
âI wonât fit..â she stated cautiously, squeezing her way inside only to be taken aback by what was inside, âI donât understand..â
Inside the tree looked like nothing she had ever seen before.
As she circled hesitantly and warily, most confused by the whole situation, the Master waited impatiently inside his TARDIS. His fingertips rapped noisily on the console, then he sighed audibly in irritation when she claimed that she would not fit inside with him in there as well.
âJust step in,â he spoke as if she were slow, because this is what he thought of humans anyway, âitâll be fine.â
When she came inside at long last, the Master closed the doors behind her and smirked at the dumbfounded expression upon her face.
âNow you will see,â Koschei boasted, âeverything that I have said is true!â
